  • It's been a while since I last reviewed defense. How do different positions rank now after some tweaking to the game? What ratings are most valuable?

    Your work with OOTP 22 - especially catcher defense - was a great help to me; since my online league is moving to 24 soon, this video will be my new blueprint. Thank you so much for sharing some final videos with us!

    Well, defense do win Championship as we all know. Glad the game shows that too.
    Thanks for still hanging in and putting out valuable insight on the game.

    Thanks for upload. If it wasn't for you I would be lost with this game. But thanks to all your videos, the game actually makes more sense and I can have some fun with it.
    I'm pleasantly surprised to see this upload. I know these things take a lot of effort. I emphatically appreciate everything you've done for the community.

    Given the pirates team at the start of the game, if i understand correctly, make cruz your third baseman and trading hayes is now the correct move since hayes has a 70 grade arm and never really pans out as a hitter while cruz can be an 100+ ops+ guy with 75 grade arm

    Fisrt off, a criticism. The first leg of a double play, must be taken in measuring ability to turn a double play. That is the pick and throw is equal to the receive and throw. The sum of both can be a one number aggregate. Lastly Kudos. You havw a well thought out and presented single person opinion show.

    I always look for your defense review with a OOTP release. My old school when it comes to catcher I gotta go high defense and ability with an Ok arm.

    Amazing video. This is fantastic stuff for the OOTP fan. One question: Do you consider a player's speed when assessing their defensive ability? I surmise that the speed rating is not exclusively tied to range, since I'm looking right now at a right fielder with 25 speed who still has a 60 range; but I imagine on some level speed has to come into play, particularly in the outfield. Thanks so much for the great content.

      as far as I know speed only affects baserunning

    • @YourKidnies
      @YourKidnies Год назад +1

      Speed is more getting an extra base on a hit and stealing aggressiveness, it has nothing to do with fielding.

      @sgtmushroom  Год назад +5

      In testing, I found that speed may have had the tiniest, most insignificant of impacts on range, but no. The difference between minimum speed and maximum speed has such a small effect that I question whether it actually has one at all (though the data does technically seem to imply there is). I definitely wouldn't consider it in assessing the defensive ability of a player.

    Seeing an issue with infield defense in OOTP24. If runners on 1st and 3rd or bases are loaded and Infield defense is to to normal depth or DP depth, a ground ball hit to a infielder, the infielder throws home instead of the force or DP attempt. This was not an issue in OOTP-15-23. If I play the infield back it means I want the force. Also runners should not try to run to 3rd base if there are no outs or 2 outs. Unless certain can make it.

    My guys are getting thrown out consistently by outfielders with "normal" arm even. And they have plus running ability. Seems like Arm 55+ can make most of the plays this year.

    You say position ratings do not matter, only defense ratings. Does having position experience matter then? Can I roll a guy out there with a zero or 20 position rating with the right defensive ratings? Thanks for the video, very helpful

    • @sgtmushroom
      @sgtmushroom  Год назад

      Experience DOES matter, and is the only thing that position rating is ultimately good for. It effectively works like a modifier on your other ratings. For example, if you have a player with 100/200 experience and 200 range (editor ratings), they will functionally have 100 range at that position.

    re: catchers starting ~120 games - any thoughts on putting two catchers in the starting lineup, but alternating which one is at catcher and which one is at DH? Is this a viable way to get maximum bang for buck from your catchers, or does catcher generally not have enough league-wide depth of offensive talent to justify spending the DH slot on a catcher?

    • @sgtmushroom
      @sgtmushroom  11 месяцев назад +1

      Generally, I think the better investment would be platooning your catchers (vR and vL) and not target elite options usually since you'd then optimize each catcher's production at a lower cost (without consuming the usual platoon roster slot). Definitely wouldn't endorse the DH strategy.
