Why have I never heard of this fantastic movie before? A psychological drama at the highest level where everything is thought through right to the end. The final interrogation April 1 "all fools' day" also fits perfectly with the film's title DECEIVER.
This was a mind bending experience! It was terrific! There were a couple of places where the sound goes out! But otherwise I highly recommend it! Thank you for putting it up here!

Great movie but audio lost at important parts. Seen it many times. Roth is imho our greatest living actor. He told a story of being up for a stage part in Macbeth against Daniel Day-Lewis. Danny had just lost his father and when Banquo his father was supposed to appear Danny saw his dead father, had a bit of a breakdown so Tim Roth got the part. TY for this.

I had read that at one point as strugling artists Gauguin & Van Gogh share accomodations at Arles, I never heard about them being lovers(?) it seems to be very typical when two men, especially when famous, lives as roommates there is very often insinuation of intimate relations whether it's substantiated or not.
Who cares…they’re fake fabricated scripted characters…the zookeepers have to find any little place they can to insert their “gay” programming into their programs.

Braxton/Chris Penn. Great actor. I loved watching him learn to dance in Footloose 1984. What an deeply emotional movie At Close Range 1986. Mulholland Falls. Rush Hour. To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar. I think him and brother Sean Penn favor each other. Def can tell they are related.
There are aspects of Alfred Hitchcock's technique & style with camera zoom ups in full face portraits, & the ability to weave side line stories linked to the protagonists. I like the menacing facial expressions of the bad cop, but the countering arrogance of the accused. He seems to like to manipulate the truth, to then extract the personal background from the detectives. There's an effective sense of angst, that builds up as the story unfolds. You'll need to f/fwd where the sound is muted in places.

Channels do all kinds of things to avoid detection so movie upload is not deleted because of copyright issues. Dialogue and music missing in bits, title or end parts missing, change of title name, loud music over some parts...

I've always found that when extreme zooming is done, I often give up if it is some kind of mystery thriller because I can't get the clues if I don't see the whole scene.

I THINK THIS MOVIE IS STUPID AND UNREALISTIC. Maybe it's because I worked in law enforcement when I was young and after college I worked for the Public Defender and many years later for the District Attorney's office. This is so unrealistic.
At times couldn't figure out whether the movie was about Epilepsy, or the wealthy upper class, or problems with gambling, the bad policeman along with a low IQ good policeman, problems with polygraphs, or the Prostitutes or the horny wife who might be cheating, or the angry husband because he is cheating and committed murder....
Most crime thrillers are unrealistic, but that doesn't make them bad movies. The Salton Sea, The Usual Suspects, Clay Pigeons, Silence of the Lambs-all utter fantasy from a procedural POV.

When he cleaned his prints off the apartment, he grabbed the videotape she'd made. I don't get coming back from the dead, though. Did he fake his death? The sound cut out when the father was in the funeral parlor.

So let me get this straight. The cop strangled her and killed her because she reminded him of his wife. Roth "only" cut her in half, but DID NOT kill her because she was already dead.

No one has picked up on this movie, he got the tape from the owner of the upper class prostitution ring. He is alive at the end because the pills he took at the last interrogation were to make his vitals signs slow down to a point that he appeared dead. He planned it all. Remember he studied psychology? He knew how to fake that form of epilepsy. The 2 cops never did forensics on the pills.
He makes a good condescending upper class snob. I liked how he talks down & belittles their social status, as it's all part of his psychological game of deceit & deception.
Tim Roth is a marvellous actor . Do not see him often enough .

Like evelynwaugh said , most police procedure in films is not followed for dramatic effect. But this one? Too too much.

I can't make out who's dead and/or who is supposed to have come back from the dead. And how did the guy get that tape of his investigator's crime. Is that murderer investigator supposed to have got caught for bribery? Confusing, but an OK movie
When he cleaned his prints off the apartment, he grabbed the videotape she'd made. I don't get coming back from the dead, though. Did he fake his death? The sound cut out when the father was in the funeral parlor.
@@lisajoachin2460 He was not dead but in a coma. Remember the part when he got the little black pills that would put him in a coma if he took a couple of them? So when he felt the seizure coming at the end of the movie he absorbed those pills and not his anti seizure ones.

So let me get this straight. The cop strangled her and killed her because she reminded him of his wife. Roth "only" cut her in half, but DID NOT kill her because she was already dead.

No one has picked up on this movie, he got the tape from the owner of the upper class prostitution ring. He is alive at the end because the pills he took at the last interrogation were to make his vitals signs slow down to a point that he appeared dead. He planned it all. Remember he studied psychology? He knew how to fake that form of epilepsy. The 2 cops never did forensics on the pills.
