Why have I never heard of this fantastic movie before? A psychological drama at the highest level where everything is thought through right to the end. The final interrogation April 1 "all fools' day" also fits perfectly with the film's title DECEIVER.

FOR ME PERSONALLY ONE OF THE BEST TIM ROTH FILMS.THIS IS A ROLE MADE FOR HIM, ESPECIALLY SINCE HE HAS THAT ENGLISH ARISTOCRACY ACCENT AND ACTS LIKE SOMEONE WHO HAS PSYCHOLOGY IN THE LITTLE FINGER!!IT IS TRULY INCREDIBLE THAT THREE ACTORS WHO ARE IN CONSTANT CONVERSATION AND IN ONE ROOM CREATE CONDITIONS THAT LEAVE THE OBSERVER BREATHLESS, WAITING FOR WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT..BUT, IT IS POSSIBLE. WITHOUT SPECIAL STAGE EFFECTS, JUST AN INSIGHT INTO THE SECRETS OF THE MAN'S SOUL OR, BETTER TO SAY, MIND AND BODY SUBJECTED BY THE INTELLIGENCE THAT IS THE CREATOR OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND THE SUBCONSCIOUSNESS, THE CREATOR OF EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS. BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF TIME AND SPACE.A GREAT TEAM OF ACTORS AND SCRIPT. A TRUE MASTERPIECE THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED IN WORLD CINEMATOGRAPHY.THANKS FOR THE FILM AND GREETINGS TO EVERYONE FROM ZAGREB, CROATIA!!

Great movie but audio lost at important parts. Seen it many times. Roth is imho our greatest living actor. He told a story of being up for a stage part in Macbeth against Daniel Day-Lewis. Danny had just lost his father and when Banquo his father was supposed to appear Danny saw his dead father, had a bit of a breakdown so Tim Roth got the part. TY for this.

There are aspects of Alfred Hitchcock's technique & style with camera zoom ups in full face portraits, & the ability to weave side line stories linked to the protagonists. I like the menacing facial expressions of the bad cop, but the countering arrogance of the accused. He seems to like to manipulate the truth, to then extract the personal background from the detectives. There's an effective sense of angst, that builds up as the story unfolds. You'll need to f/fwd where the sound is muted in places.

No one has picked up on this movie, he got the tape from the owner of the upper class prostitution ring. He is alive at the end because the pills he took at the last interrogation were to make his vitals signs slow down to a point that he appeared dead. He planned it all. Remember he studied psychology? He knew how to fake that form of epilepsy. The 2 cops never did forensics on the pills.
