      TBF D/D would be a complete package for all game mechanics except Rituals.
      Missing timing with Orthros, identifying "summon conditions" like CyDra VS "summon effects" that Ceasar negates, understanding that even a Special Set is still a special summon (Caesar negating Toad when activating against a monster), damage step interactions, difference between detaching monster for effect/cost, all extra deck mechanics, the pendulum mechanic, trap activation VS trap effect, lingering effects (patent), control change (headhunt).
      I made a person take the bait being a historian and loving the LOOOOORE of the archetype, then evolved into a wombo-combo pile lover from Dragunity/Dragon Link to every Runick variant known to man to now salivating over Snake Eyes.

      If this card is discarded to the GY by card effect: [This is a condition required for
      activation.]
      If it was discarded from your hand to your GY by an opponent's card effect, you can target 1 monster in your opponent's GY; [This is an action that you perform during activation, because it is before a semicolon. Text denoted before semicolons can include costs and targeting, and in this case, it's a targeting action that you only perform when a specific condition is met.]
      add 1 "Dark World" card from your Deck to your hand, then Special Summon that target (if any) in Defense Position. [This is the effect, and the "if any" in parentheses means that the effect naturally includes a Special Summon, (meaning it can be negated by Ghost Belle) but will whiff if there is no target, usually because you didn't meet the requirement for the targeting action.]

    I could understand people thinking this is a stupid ass Idea, or hating it.
    But literally ALL the criticism was "That's not how XYZ work tho". And they would die on this stupid hill.
    Like wtf? Since when has Konami given a single shit about the rules when designing cards?
    The rules are made up, just print how it function on the card the same way Konami has done since the stone ages,

    Considering the limitations of the "2-player starter deck" (only having 4 synchros and xyz each), and some of the reprints needed (eldlich the golden lord), i would have made the Xyz deck focused on summoning monsters like superdreadnought reail cannon gustav max and juggenaurt liebe, while also including other easy to summon level 10 monsters. maybe have gagaga magician and gagaga sister (thanks to their effects, they can make it to level 10) with that gagaga equip spell that can revive a gagaga.
    keep zeus as "the other option" if for some reason liebe got negated. maybe give them the Rank 4 monster "Number 27: Dreadnought Dreadnoid" as another way to get to the xyz rank 10, and other special summonable level 4s like summoner monk, goblinbergh kagetokage, evilswarm mandragora, or photon thrasher.
    For the Synchro deck, if Manadium Prime-Heart is a MUST reprint, I would include Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon (after all it is a level 8 that summons a level 2 tuner, that helps summon level 10s), Original stardust dragon (synergizes with the effect and nostalgia bait). and at least other 2 of the level 2 manadium tuners to make the strategy viable. Maybe keep coral dragon or another synchro level 6 so you can do the level 10 with 2 tuners aside of using visas starfrost.
    And at least include common staples similar to the dark hole they put. like raigeki, or harpie's feather duster or minimum mystical space typhoon.

  • @four-en-tee
    @four-en-tee 11 месяцев назад +16

    I don't think the starter decks NEED to be tiered decks (it would certainly be nice to get reprints for competitive cards though), but they should still be reflective of modern day deck philosophy and have, y'know, ACTUAL WIN CONDITIONS.
    Like, just hear me out: the synchro deck could've been Swordsoul, and the XYZ deck could've been Spright. Both of those could provide opportunities to teach link monsters as well by using stuff like Knightmare monsters or what have you for Swordsoul and Spright Sprind for... Well, Spright. They don't have to be competitive builds (like, i'm not expecting Tenyi Swordsoul out of the box, it can still have some wacky choices in there like Spooky Dogwood or some shit) and you could still package the deck with the intent of not shuffling it before starting, but the decks SHOULD still function like actual decks afterwards even if their purpose is to onboard new people into the game. At the very least, it could have a bunch of relevant hand traps at 1 copy each like Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom, Ghost Ogre, D.D. Crow, and Gorz if they want to keep the decks wacky. The fact that there's only 1 hand trap among both decks does a horrible job of conveying how prominent hand traps are in the modern game.
    Like, what does the 2 player starter deck do that a basic ass structure deck doesn't? If anything, this is just proof that the structure decks need to come with guide books again.

    • @kr555wizard
      @kr555wizard 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yup all it does is be a worse version of a structure deck without a script, they could have saved costs by just taking an already existing structure deck that exemplifies one of the 2 summoning mechanics chosen and just write a script for them.

    • @AcroxShadow
      @AcroxShadow 11 месяцев назад +6

      You need to walk before you can run. The product is for people starting from literally nothing, not people who have basic knowledge already wanting to play in more competitive environments, which is what structure decks are mainly aimed at. If you give someone that doesn't know the basic rules a structure deck they're going to be confused and overwhelmed by a lot of the cards, whereas this product teaches you in a guided order about various things, building up from the most basic of basics (normal monsters, normal and tribute summons, attacking), to the different kinds of spell and trap cards, various kinds of effects and such, working up to stuff like summoning a few synchro and Xyz monsters, including real bosses like Prime-Heart and ZEUS. It's a good way of building foundational knowledge without just dumping a ton of mixed information on people at once. Look at the starter kits that Magic does, for example. Those are just a bunch of pack filler with like 1 or two actually powerful cards in them, and they're cheap and great for brand new players as well.
      It's possible they could make an Advanced Starter Kit featuring more in-depth stuff as a follow-up.

    • @four-en-tee
      @four-en-tee 11 месяцев назад

      @@AcroxShadow Okay, so these are all the issues i have with this product. Even just putting aside my want for the archetypes like Swordsoul and Spright (they could be Blue Eyes and Dark Magician for all i care, BEWD has synchros and DM has Ebon Illusion Magician), the problem is that these decks aren't built like real decks. And what this does is give players an awful first impression of how deck building works in modern Yugioh (and no, i don't mean "there isn't any 3-ofs of cards").
      We'll use Starter Deck Codebreaker as an example of what a good starter deck looks like in this game. That deck only had 2 normal monsters and 1 flip monster. That would've been more than enough for an onboarding product like this 2 player deck, the only area Konami needed to improve in was the manual booklet. And for context: that deck was really simple in its strategies because Konami had the task of introducing a brand new extra deck summoning mechanic to EVERYONE (not just beginners). But even a starter deck like SD Yuya was full of Performapals and Magician monsters. It could afford being more cohesive with its main deck monsters because the new mechanic was related to the main deck.
      By comparison, there is fucking 8 NORMAL MONSTERS in the synchro deck, and 7 in the XYZ deck. Thankfully, both those decks still only have very little flip monsters in there (its obviously important that they're included, but you don't need to bloat the deck with it if you aren't shuffling the deck to begin with).
      And i do want to stipulate (since i've had some time to cool off) that I don't think its a deal breaker for this on boarding product to have these many trap cards. I _wish_ the decks had less traps, but it for sure needed more hand traps than just D.D. Crow since they can be fairly common even in casual play nowadays. It is a fair critique to make that new players need to learn what continuous and counter traps are, and that was an oversight in my original comment.
      Ultimately though, my biggest gripes have to do with the normal monster bloat, the lack of cohesive and believable win cons in these decks (this is basically an onboarding for something like GOAT format, which is over 20 years late), the de-emphasis on archetypes (i at least appreciate that there's the mannadium package in the synchro deck to show how searching works, but you could've done that with a more cohesive deck), and the small amount of hand traps in the deck (there should be probably 3 in each one for an onboarding tutorial like this just to convey how important they are in this game).
      Because you gotta keep in mind "what is the next logical thing that someone is gonna do with this product after the scripted duel?" They're gonna shuffle the deck and play against their friend in a real match. And THAT is gonna be their first real impression of what its like to play Yugioh after learning the rules, which sets them up for failure. This is literally just the Master Duel tutorial but in paper YGO, and we all know how well that went with Rarran. It sets expectations for a game that basically disappeared years ago and was replaced by a game that ends on turn 5-6 if we're being generous.
      Like, all Konami has to really do for a product like this is ensure that the top 5 cards of your deck are the same every time you play. Its not like you're going to ever shuffle the deck in this tutorial, and they could've given the stipulation in the hand guide that you won't be shuffling after searching cards in this tutorial duel for simplicity's sake. You could've just included 1-2 normal monsters in each deck, had one or both of them in the starting hand to teach you how to tribute summon, and you could've built the decks each around a single archetype while still including all sorts of different spells and traps for the purpose of this sealed product environment. Like, when you really sit down and look at these decks objectively, they're just lazily put together. Even casual players build decks themed around an archetype (hell, most of them build pure lists to emulate their favorite anime duelists).
      I mean, god knows when i first got into Yugioh for the first time 3 years ago, I just built a Dark Magician XYZ deck with a Magician of Chaos package because it was my favorite ritual monster in Duel Links (which i played for maybe 2 months before getting into the TCG). And it had plenty of traps like Drowning Mirror Force and what have you because i was still pretty casual at the time. That's the sort of deck design philosophy Konami should've leaned into with this product. They basically over-corrected when designing this thing.
      What Konami should do is just reintroduce the Legendary Hero Deck sets and include manuals like the one in this 2 player set. Not only could you use it to teach new players the game (and its a repeatable template that you can use to reel in newcomers every year with annual product releases), but you could also print new cards, overhaul legacy archetypes, and give a more accurate depiction of what real Yugioh looks like while still adhering to this scripted duel schtick that Konami wants to try out for newcomers. Everybody wins.
      Anyways i'll take my W now.
