next time put alluminum foil around your header so when oil from filther comes down it doesn get on your exhaust, also to get all the oil out you need to have the bike level of the one stand or on both stands, also important is to add oil to the oil fiter before installing it back on so when you start your bike it wont run dry air filther it will have some oil, good video by the way , the more we know the better we are ;)
Another good idea: Fill the oil filter with new oil. Keeps air out of the oil galleys. Wrap the drain plug with teflon, acts as an anti-seize next time you remove it. Epoxy a rare earth magnet to the drain plug, grabs and traps gear teeth particles. Use synthetic oil ONLY, the oil shear from these engines at RPM is intense. Save the old oil (synthetic) for about 2 years. It will settle out and use it in your mower.
Glad it helped. Yea always tighten oil filter using just hands. If you can't open it, use filter pliers or simply use K&N oil filters which can be opened using a wrench or a socket. I'm going to post a new video in a few days showing how you can push out more old oil out of the system.
yeah great job, just done mine after watching your vid. oil filter was harder to get off than yours. the perils of over tightning the filter.thanks for the video.
I fill up the oil filter with oil now. I am going to make an updated video soon. I have not tried wrapping the drain plug with teflon and I don't think that is safe because the drain bolt is exposed to oil in the pain. If a piece of teflon breaks inside the oil pan it may very well ruin the block. I think they make magnetic bolts to attract metal floating in oil. I only use Shell Rotella T6, both in winter and summer works great. What do you use? I used Mobil 1 and it wasn't that great.
I DID EXACTLY as you said but after i started the bike IT STARTED SMOKING from the front just under the oil filter. can someone tell me why? i know i did nothing wrong in terms of the oil change but when the engine reached about 70 degrees celcius it started smoking. i'm a very paranoid guy so i just turned it off immediately too scared to start again. anyone know what;s wrong??
From the location you are mentioning, the smoke is nothing but your old oil burning which was probably spilled on your exhaust when you were performing the oil change. The smoke started coming at 70 degrees because the exhaust got hot and eventually started burning the oil and hence the smoke. Hope that helps!
yes that's what i suspected because i did spill some of the oil in the oil filter when taking the oil one out. so how do i get around this problem? i cleaned it as much as i can but i think there's still some oil.
You can use some petrol or brake parts cleaner to get rid of it. Usually I just ride it off but if you spilled a lot you might want to clean it a little bit.
hmm yea i used brake cleaner but obviously it wouldn't have cleaned everything since some areas are really hard to get into and spray so should i just ride it off?is it alright for the bike as in not going to damage any internal or external bits? sorry man i'm really careful so the last thing i need is to screw it up cause my r1s always had a easy life haha
Just ride it off. If you are paranoid just turn on the bike and let it idle so it burns away the oil. Oil on the exhaust is not going to damage anything at all, you'll be fine :)

Great video! Just what I was looking for. Thank bro
Yea its pretty easy. You get faster once you do it more often. Good luck!
when to change oil? 5000km?
3000km if u go allways high revs, 5000km if you ride normal
Nice took you 10 mins. I have 07 Yamaha r1. Looks like ima do my own too. Thanks
Thankyou for uploading.
No ipl cricket this year due to shut down.
A nice power wash wouldn't kill buddy. Keeping you're un seen parts is important..just my thought but very help full video
Thanks! I usually clean the areas behind the fairings but because I ride all year round it tends to be a little dirty.
My dream bike R1 but very rarely seen in Indian roads
Very good instructions. And good camera views
Como se mide el nivel de aceite en frio o ya caliente la moto?
You but oil that sight glass is full? But yamaha say the sight glass should be half full?

What type of oil is it
Where do you put the new oil
Phandretti he don't. It's Yamaha, no need any oil.
And it runs on sand.
when you think its all out put it on side stand then take out the filter.
