  • The Sparrows tuxedo lock pick set is one of the most popular beginner kits because it has EVERYTHING you need to get started. All sparrows lock picks are 301 cold rolled stainless steel, VERY tough material that will take all kinds of beginner abuse. The kit is stored in a ballistic nylon pocket case, which is available in three colors.

    Boop
    I like the transparency, a lot of tubers don't bother with that. Some people might take it as begging, but I don't think those people quite realize that without contributions, channels wouldn't really exist.

    As a beginner I had no idea what to buy. Bosnian Bill said this was a good choice, so I listened to the expert and ordered one...with an additional .015 Bogota. Of course, I didn't completely listen to the expert; I just started picking locks.
    I hated the Bogota; it always felt like a key-way was full of sand and it opened nothing. But wait, didn't the master say to polish these so the feedback was from the pins? OK 800 grit...1000 grit...1200 grit using a chopstick as a sanding block. I can't believe the difference. Now, I just wave it in front of my 4 pin Master locks and they pop open...presumably to avoid more intrusive treatment. The other picks got the same treatment, with similar results. I'm still a beginner, but I'm a happy beginner, with tools that work.
    Don't ignore Bosnian Bill's advice; shiny smooth is good, really good. Don't ignore his advice about finishing either, where he uses a book to polish the picks. The movie title "There Will Be Blood" was from someone who didn't pay attention.

      Someone needs to make a video for newbies, especially on how to handle your brand new tools with paper grip.
      I get the idea, would love some how to, exactly.
      That would be a very useful video.
      I'm sure there are mistakes to be made, special techniques relatives to the different picks shapes.

    Hey Bill, just wanted to say thank you for all the excellent videos you have made over the years. This kit was my first set of lock picks when you inspired me to pursue the art in high school. It has been a few years, and I haven't been picking as much as I used to, but I am still very grateful for introducing me to this awesome hobby. I hope you enjoy your retirement. Have a great time with your family!

    Hmmm, would you suggest this set over the southord PXS-14 set by any chance?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  8 лет назад +9

      You are comparing apples to oranges. The PXS-14 is a very nice entry level kit and is priced accordingly. The Tuxedo is a high quality every day carry set.

      oh, ahah, silly me... hmm... sorry to bother.

    • @PhauxTheFox
      @PhauxTheFox 7 лет назад +3

      I know this is a bit old, but I think what he means and what a few others would like to know(The winner of the PSX14 asked a similar question which you read but didn't answer in 762) is which would be better for beginners? The Tuxedo has 7 picks with no handles and 6 tension tools, the PXS14 has 8 picks with optional handles, 1 double sided pick, 1 extractor, and 4 tension tools and there's only a $4 difference in price. So which of those would you recommend for a beginner? As a beginner myself I had debated mainly between those two sets for my first, I ended up with the Sprarrows just because I was tired of debating.

Was going to buy a lot of cheapish ones from banggood. but honestly it wouldnt have been much cheaper, expecially since a lot of times they're twisted and damaged.
