    Delightful video, brings back so many memories. Ah, autopilot and small plotting GPS. Even little handhelds can drive the autopilot. A fine memory is taking the graveyard watch bashing from Ensenada to San Diego against the wind and winds, a little handheld steering the autohelm flawlessly from waypoint to waypoint, while the rest of the crew slept below.

    Hi Guys, we are sailing around the UK in aid of mental heath. We are sailing a Prout Quest 31 Catamaran built in Canvey UK. The charity that we are supporting is Mind UK amongst others, we have been watching your channel for ever now and you have helped inspire us in many ways. It would be awesome if you could help us advertise our cause so that we can make as much money for people as possible.

    Rossella's smile and attitude is infectious. She is eating for two. You're eating for four. My waist said I should pick her dessert as the winner but, my eyes pick your dessert. I prefer using a swell bridle over using a second anchor. It's just simpler for me and easier to pull up when it's time to leave. It's important to note that you have to look at what boats around you are doing. If everyone around you is using a second anchor you'll most likely have to follow suit. Don't want to play bumper boats when the wind changes direction. 😃

      Hi Jacobus, it’s great to hear from you, we hope you and your crew are all doing well! Absolutely agree regarding the swell bridle and also about having to do what others are doing to avoid bumper boats. It’s nice to have an empty anchorage so you can just do what you want rather than following others. We hope you are well and send you all our best wishes. Chris, Rossella & Emma 👍

    The Prickly Pear was introduce to the Med from South America in the 19th century. It provides food for the cochineal insects which of course provide the red dye. The fruit is edible but that's not the reason that this cactus was planted.
    In Greece anyway the kids sleep during the hottest part of the day and go to bed around midnight. I have nice memories of playing football in the street at 11pm.

      When I was a child I remember it was still light outside at 11pm and I wanted to be out playing instead of going to bed. 😁 When I got older I would use the long summer nights to lie on my parent’s driveway repairing my cheapo old cars until 11 pm. I’d love to have a time machine to go back and reminisce a while: the world is a very different place today. Chris

    Hello Chris, what is the relatively short scope that you pay out before you test if the anchor is set properly? Best regards!

    • @SailingBritaly
      @SailingBritaly  3 года назад +3

      Hi Tibor, we hope you are well and your Li-ion battery experiments are progressing well! We set the anchor with a scope of around 3:1 or 4:1 and then when we're happy the anchor is well set we then we pay out more rode to suit the upcoming conditions. This acts as a bit of a "stress test" to make sure the anchor is set properly. If we were to lay out more rode before reversing (say 6:1 if it was going to be a bit breezy), it wouldn't be as easy to confirm that the anchor is well set whilst pulling back with the engine. The shorter rode gives you clearer feedback and lets you feel what the anchor is doing while you pull against it. We hope this helps - thank you very much for helping us make this video! 🌟 Very best regards, Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊

    • @SailingBritaly
      @SailingBritaly  3 года назад +1

      Hi Alan, it's in the description but unfortunately YT does its best to make this difficult to see. This was filmed a few weeks before Emma was born (2017). We had a 250 GB backlog of footage to edit from that trip when Emma was born, so we've been making more recent videos to share what's been happening 'real time' and playing catch up in editing these 'old' videos as and when we find the time. (It takes over 40 hours of work to produce a video like this). Cheers, Chris

      We always set ambitious goals at the start of each year, write them on a small card, and put them in our wallet / purse and carry them around with us as a reminder of what we intend to achieve throughout the year. This is the first year we have ever had our goals blown out of the water by a situation over which we have no control. May the light outshine the darkness in 2021...
