And we have heard from other senior, respected luminaries of the news and political commentary industry: George Will, Sam Donaldson, Dan Rather, Carl Bernstein, Bob Woodward, Tom Brokaw. They're all saying the same thing. Trumpists need to have this pointed out to them.
One has to believe that Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley, and Edward Murrow would voice their outrage or fear as well, each in his own distinctive style, concerning Trump and his influence on this country.

    • @elainejohnson6955
      @elainejohnson6955 5 лет назад +11

@@randomboris Exactly. The GOP is only interested in pushing insane conspiracy theories that Fact Checkers and all of our USA Intelligence Agencies say have been investigated and totally debunked. Even I can so easily disprove the ones I know anything about. But they don't care about FACTS or LOGIC or the CONSTITUTION. Fiona Hill just warned them not to push Russian Conspiracy Theories and they don't blink an eye before doing it again!!! And, they are angry when anyone calls them out on it and attack and smear the messenger!!! They don't care how many lives they are destroying and how many allies we will lose while strengthening our enemies and becoming more and more like a dictatorship. Our branches of government are not acting as SEPARATE and CO-EQUAL checks and balances on each other. I can't believe our legislative branch thinks it is supposed to be subservient to the President and are relinquishing their power to him. They are going to the accused parties to find out how to respond to the accusations instead of following the Law and Constitution. It is like the police helping someone rob a bank by providing the getaway car then claiming the bank robber didn't do it! They are acting like defense attorneys for the President instead of Attorney Generals for the American people and jurors. It is scary. If the ACCUSED is a Republican they are automatically innocent even if PROVEN guilty beyond a REASONABLE doubt, no matter what the FACTS are against them. If they are Democrats accusing a Republican of doing something wrong, accuse them of making up the facts and say "truth isn't truth" and "2+2 does not equal 4!" If they are lifelong Republicans like Comey, Rosenstein, and Mueller leading the investigations against the President, complain that Dems are doing it anyway!!!

That will never happen. Republicans are like an all-white jury in Alabama trying some KKK members for lynching a black man They are clearly guilty, and just as clearly plan to do a victory lap around the courthouse in front of their victim's family when they are acquitted after two minutes of deliberations. Later, the people who acquitted the guilty men will be seen partying with them in full Klan regalia and nothing can or will be done about it. It will be called justice and the murderers will be called innocent and exonerated. I'm not looking forward to it, personally, and I don't think it could happen in Canada where I live, but I feel sorry for decent Americans being degraded and betrayed this way.

Hayes: How confident are you that some of the worst pathologies that we have in our politics right now can be undone?
Moyers: I think they are here until there is some kind of transformation in the American culture - in the American body politic…until enough people…well I went to listen to Robert J. Lifton, one of the great forensic psychologists of our time, who wrote magnificent books about the survivors Hiroshima, about Hitler’s Nazis, about people who experienced trauma, and he says, There’s only one way we’re going to get out of this, and that is to do what Vaclav Havel did-who had been the champion of freedom against the Communists in Chekoslovakia and became the first president of Chekoslovakia-said you have to live in the truth, everyone else has to live in the truth, and you have to attach yourselves to organizations that are trying to serve the truth. If we all, if enough of us do that we might yet see our republic safe. Remember what Grover Cleveland said, that the ship of democracy which has weathered many rough storms, may like any great ship at sea sink from the mutiny of those on board. Throw them out, and start putting the ship of democracy in the path of the truth of our experience, and we’ll get through it, but only if we do that.”

Mervyn Stephens, That would be Judge Susan Webber Wright’s Court on Clinton’s Perjury Charge though that is not the only court to rule on the matter, the Clinton misuse of FBI files was adjudicated in several federal courts, the IRS admitted guilt for Obama’s IRS Targeting Scandal as part of a settlement I believe that was at the Federal court in Virginia, and finally we have Obama’s Operation Choke Point which the FDIC has to settle with some of Obama’s victims of the dirtbags secret gun control program.

I think republicans defend him because to do otherwise would be to against their family. It is totally tribal. The idea that the hated neighboring tribe is right and we are wrong would be an identity killing move. There is no reason, only an emotional reaction. Now the response to their emotional response has to be carefully crafted because they are so fragile. Anything you say will be interpreted as an attack.

“In northwest Alaska, kunlangeta "might be applied to a man who, for example, repeatedly lies and cheats and steals things and does not go hunting, and, when the other men are out of the village, takes sexual advantage of many women." The Inuits tacitly assume that kunlangeta is irremediable. And so, according to Murphy, the traditional Inuit approach to such a man was to insist he go hunting, and then, in the absence of witnesses, push him off the edge of the ice.”

I've looked for redeeming qualities because this is the first time I've experienced real hatred for people but I cannot find any human character traits that are positive. Also, Trump supporters are a danger to the concept of truth, which bothers me the most. It's an attack on something important that we can't live without.

I love this man! Not only is Bill Moyers a walking journalism historian; he's an American institution, unabashed by lies and unafraid to speak truth to power when our democracy has reached the apex of blatant, open danger long lurking in the shadows. He's old school, before only six corporations and billionaires owned global media, both outright and in pieces in other smaller countries fighting for democracy and against corruption. Even US used the media in Chile, spending millions to spread propaganda in the coup via Chile's newspaper, "El Mercurio." We ousted Salvador Allende and put in Pinochet. End result was a total decimation of a democracy on the rise, thousands dead in the streets and proving yet again that our "democracy" is an illusion that surrendered to greed and corruption over a century ago. US is the new version of Queen Victoria's Great Britain, but includes her strategies in today's surreal politics...only much worse. In years past, PBS would've shown impeachment hearings during prime time, a given; that indicates that public tv isn't so public anymore. I learned so much watching the hearings; our foreign service diplomats do involved, difficult work, yet they remain non-partisan and true to democracy's cause. In today's global political climate and, with Trump as a president, the latter's gotta be the most difficult thing to do.

Dan Ozomatli Gop is dead. Gop remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

Dan Ozomatli Wylie said that Bannon's plans began to solidify in 2014, when Cambridge Analytica consulted various Republican campaigns and PACs ahead of the midterm elections. The company began to test and apply its psychographics by using Facebook data to model individuals' personality types in order to understand how to influence them.
Documents show the John Bolton Super PAC, which promoted candidates supported by recently appointed White House national security adviser John Bolton, paid Cambridge Analytical $454,700 in 2014 for "behavioral microtargeting with psychographic messaging." Those services included strategies that broke individual voters into "clusters" based on what messages would resonate with them.
Wylie also said the company used focus groups and messaging trials in 2014 to test some of the concepts that became core themes of the Trump campaign, such as "drain the swamp" and imagery of walls. "A lot of the narratives of the Trump campaign were what we were testing in 2014," Wylie said.
He added that Bannon directly presided over much of the company's initial research. "Everything that we were doing ultimately had to be passed up to Bannon for approval," said Wylie, who left the company in late 2014.
Wylie said Bannon would fly to London about once a month for company meetings, and during that time he came to understand Bannon's ideology. "He really liked the idea of using a military-style approach to changing people's perceptions," Wylie said.

According to the Times, Cambridge Analytica bought the data from Aleksandr Kogan, a Russian-American academic. Kogan, who told Facebook he was conducting academic research, built a Facebook personality quiz app called "thisisyourdigitalife." When users downloaded the app, it scraped all of their available Facebook data, including their friends, their likes and where they lived.
More than a quarter-million Facebook users downloaded the app, which also exploited a Facebook vulnerability that allowed it to to collect most of the same data from the friends of those who downloaded it. By prying into the friends lists of those who made the download, Kogan was able to get data from more than 50 million people.
Throughout 2015 and into 2016, the Cruz campaign paid Cambridge Analytica almost $6 million for data that the campaign used for what it called "psychographic targeting," which supposedly allowed the campaign to tailor its message to specific voters in places like Iowa and New Hampshire, where single voters can make a big difference. Using data from the firm, the campaign built profiles of potential voters, prioritizing those who fit in categories such as "stoic traditionalist" and "true believer".
In December 2015, the same month The Guardian revealed Cambridge Analytica and Kogan's data harvesting practices, Cruz campaign spokesman Rick Tyler called the company a "market leader and the best in the field." Despite Tyler's claim that the Cruz campaign stopped using the firm's data in early 2016, it kept paying Cambridge Analytica until June of that year, a month after Cruz suspended his campaign. After Cruz dropped out of the race, the firm began working with Trump, supporting him through November's general election against Hillary Clinton.

      - Bannon got it immediately. He believes in the whole Andrew Breitbart doctrine that politics is downstream from culture, so to change politics you need to change culture. And fashion trends are a useful proxy for that. Trump is like a pair of Uggs, or Crocs, basically. So how do you get from people thinking ‘Ugh. Totally ugly’ to the moment when everyone is wearing them? That was the inflection point he was looking for.
Is what Cambridge Analytica does akin to bullying? - I think it’s worse than bullying, Christopher Wylie says. - Because people don’t necessarily know it’s being done to them. At least bullying respects the agency of people because they know. So it’s worse, because if you do not respect the agency of people, anything that you’re doing after that point is not conducive to a democracy. And fundamentally, information warfare is not conducive to democracy.
Millions of people’s personal information was stolen and used to target them in ways they wouldn’t have seen, and couldn’t have known about, by a mercenary outfit, Cambridge Analytica, who, Wylie says, “would work for anyone”. Who would pitch to Russian oil companies. Would they subvert elections abroad on behalf of foreign governments?
It occurs to me to ask Wylie this one night. - Yes.
Nato or non-Nato? - Either. I mean they’re mercenaries. They’ll work for pretty much anyone who pays.
It’s an incredible revelation. It also encapsulates all of the problems of outsourcing - at a global scale, with added cyberweapons. And in the middle of it all are the public - our intimate family connections, our “likes”, our crumbs of personal data, all sucked into a swirling black hole that’s expanding and growing and is now owned by a politically motivated billionaire.
