Vietnamese food is seriously the bomb! It's light, it's refreshing, it's filling. I'm looking forward to coming back simply for the food. Don't even get me started on their coffee.
Our Asian cuisine is very delisiose and fresh.... Street food can be brought home and be eaten as dinner. I love that I am Vietnamese

+MangoJelly18 The coffee was ridiculously good. I bought one of those little presses and a lot of coffee from the market. God, that's how you do iced coffee. I'm just glad we have a couple of cafés that know how to make it so I can still have it every so often.

I don't understand why people hate on cilantro so much it's like the best thing in life. I literally just eat it straight sometimes. Thanks Thai mother, you've probably messed me up a bunch
It's because there's a shared group of olfactory-receptor genes that cause cilantro to taste like soap to a portion of the population.
I never knew that! I'm clearly of the @Darkflame2307 club, because I love the stuff. I'm soooo glad I'm not of the club that thinks it's soapy. (On a side note: did those people eat soap to be able to claim that cilantro tastes like soap? Just wonderin'....)

I'm one of those people Randy Torres described, sorry lol. It's weird though because I can't do fresh coriander as it tastes like soap and some times dish washing liquid BUT, I can do ground/dry coriander or coriander seeds. I'd really like to experience what fresh coriander actually tastes like though lol.

When my mom makes Bánh Xèo, she just makes tons and tons of them because they are easy to make and she stuffs them with mountains of pork and bean sprouts, anyone else's mom like that 😂😂😂

Right now I'm backpacking in Vietnam for a month and I'm so in love with their food 😍 I still want to experiment more and since I can't read the dished I'm mostly stuck at rice/noodle soup, fried rice and spring rolls and there is still so much more to discover!

Make out of flour with yellow powder for color I believe it tumeric powder, than pour in a big pan, put shrimp, bean sprout and pork in, then put a lid over it to cook for a few minute. Fold it in half before taking it out
I think the yellow coloring is Tumeric. Definitely no eggs in it though.

I feel... that the reason Vietnamese food is sooooooooooooo good... is because it is made with the Soul of a People who have survived (and continue to survive) so much in it's journey.
All the history and fusion is in it. The pain, the suffering, the resourcefulness, the joy, the triumph and of course the love is all there.
So many nations and people have passed through Vietnam (whether it be through colonization, war, merchant traders, expats, tourists, business groups, etc etc) and have left their essence in what makes Vietnam.
And this of course includes the world of food & cuisine too!!! Heck there are even a few Greek and Turkish Gyro/Doner stands in Saigon now :) So interesting!!

ban xeo should be eaten with fresh lettuce and fresh mustard leaf and eat it like a roll. it taste better that way.. im filipino but i live in vietnam and i love their food!!
There is several sizes of banh xeo by the way. The smaller one that you may see in Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Phu Yen, etc ... they put the whole cake and vegetables into a bowl of fish sauce and eat it using chopstick/spoon. Best thing ever!

I loved all of these growing up. Simpler times when i would get the bánh xèo and pick it up in my hands then after i finish eatibg it and hashing my hands the grease would stay for hours

I live in a different country now, so I have to learn how to make these myself. Turns out they're not difficult to make, but they just require a lot of effort. There are many steps in preparation but the cooking is easy.
