- Can you really live in Pattaya for as low as $1000 per month? I genuinely believe you can, in Today's video, I show you what the complete cost of living in Thailand can look like. Pattaya is a cheaper part of Thailand to live, I show you around my friends condo in Jomtien Beach, and go through all the fixed costs of living in Pattaya as an expat, before creating a daily budget to show how that can look.

Been living here for 15 years,
First years on about 500 a month
Now about 1000
Easy if you aren't a alcoholic
Actually even you do not drink at all it will still be easy for some and nearly impossible for others so what you said is a huge oversimplification of the issue. Whether you stay in your own country or move to Thailand some people are just going to be good at living on a budget while others will not be. Obviously anyone CAN live on that amount since millions of Thais do it with no problem. But whether a particular individual will do it or not is another story altogether. Anyway the biggest variable here after rent is food of course. Some people will spend less than 7000 a month on food and others might spend more than 30,000 a month on food without even realizing it. And of course, to live cheaply you not only need to eat mostly Thai food but you also have to find the cheaper Thai options. If you like to eat a lot of Western food however you will be in trouble. For example back home in California I could easily live on a food budget of $150 a month making all my own meals at home. But making those same dishes here would cost a fortune. The bottom line is if you only have $1000 a month and no savings this means the people who cannot budget well will be running out of money before the month is even half over. Also people have to keep in mind that your actual income here can vary a lot depending on the exchange rate. For example just a few years ago that $1000 was less than 30,000 baht a month and then about 6 months ago it was nearly 40,000 baht per month. So what you have to live on can vary drastically over time.
@@SLOBeachboy Dining In is a must. Many simple meals can be made at home for short money. Eating out when convenient, bars and entertainment will KILL any budget in any nation. Pattaya is not alone with that reality. $1000...best of luck mate 😅
you can not spend too much money on nightlife if you are on budget but you can get a girl on beach road for dessert sometimes....
you became a wanker No.:1
@@SLOBeachboyYou can live on $150 a month at home. That’s $5 a day😂 rice and beans I suppose.
When you take into account, the sad amount the UK gives to pensioners, that is a good lifestyle, and more than pensioners would be able to do here. Beer £5-8 (depends where you live) energy costs, as in electric and gas are costing £200+ a moonth, water at £30 a week (aprox) food costs through the roof here. To a pensioner from the UK that would be paradise!
I knew drinking was the biggest expense you have. I'm not a huge fan of drinking I enjoy exercise and being on the beach so I could definitely survive on $1000 a month. Your cheap day looked like my dream day. Thank you for the video
Oh yeah if you don't drink easy
I agree, I willbe retitring there in Decemebr 2025
@@luisRoma747 lucky. I'm trying my hardest to get a online business I can run without inventory. All digital products and affiliate marketing. I know all I need is $1000 a month I know it. I can't stand America at this point
it's not a dream day once you get accustomed to the surroundings. you can only walk the same beach so many times, and eat only 3 small meals as your daily expenses. Things like getting semi-regular massages or fruit treats, ice creams, and a variety of other diversions or activities throughout your day in order to make it fun will add up. guaranteed you drink more than you think you would once you've been there, especially if you make friends. also no transport was included, nor any average for out of city travel. guarantee you that 1k a month lifestyle would be boring af pretty quick.
@@johns783 I'm just a simple man. I actually enjoy writing so I feel like the peace would help my mind to focus on my writing goals. I practice omad also so one big meal at 5pm is good for me. Only thing I'd want more of was a yard to have a garden. I image after a few years in the city I'd move to the countryside and start a small farm. A farm in THIALAND sounds like true heaven.
Foreigners won't get an apartment or condo for only 7,000 baht unless we get a 6 month or 12 month lease. You never mentioned that. Very hard to find short term 1 month for that price
Easy, I spend that much and i have Thai GF. My rent is 6k baht/month in Jomtien. Big swimming pool, sauna etc .We go to the gym (2k a month) eat healthy, enjoy the beach. My scooter is 3.5k/month). I'm not on a budget when i'm in Thailand, im just not a big spender and my GF is also not a big spender and that helps ALOT.
If you don't drink every day and go out. Its easy on that budget. And during the week you spend less and then in the weekends you can spend a little bit more and go out, play some pool, get massage, etc.. Works very good.
Agree 1000%
@@tim69hum 1000 Euro is 38.000 baht. Minus rent and utilities is 30.000 baht left. 1000 baht a day goes a long way if you stay out of the bars.
Making videos is a Full time job and i enjoying life too much to spend time on making "content". Enough content creators here in Thailand, i see them Everywhere here 😁 Keis is making good videos, better then watching Netflix, etc.
My point is that 1000 Euro/dollar a month is possible. A medium Thai salary (University degree) is around 25.000 baht and they live an oke life in that in Thailand 😉
I live in a rural village in Chonburi. House and car paid already so it's electricity, wifi, diesel, food, insurance and beer. I spend about 35-40K a month. Depends on the beer consumption.
I think it’s extremely manageable and perfect for people to enjoy themselves on a budget. Love your work brother 🤙
great one, Adam. Been watching your videos of Thailand for a long time now. I appreciate the break down. Take care
Been living that way since February 12th. It's totally doable.
Yeah nice!! So many nay-sayers out there!
Great information as always. Thanks for breaking it down for us.
Thanks for the breakdown, it puts into better context.👍
I lived on a 1000 dollars a month in Tokyo for about 9 months in the late 90s before I discovered the bars and clubs and that was the end of that. I guess anything is doable if you are strict.
I think 1500 would work in place like Jomtien, but you must refrain from the nightlife at least keep it minimal. I think 2K is perfect budget for Thailand or Philippines
Once a week satiating the vampire thirst down soi 6 an she'll be right maaate
Many in the Philippine's are happy satisfied and doing well on $1000 - $1500 SS checks - some even with girl friends. -- A somewhat frugal life is needed I'm sure ? -- Quite a few I hear are (out of necessity) 'surviving' on $900 checks in less expensive areas. -- Extravagance is expensive in both countries !
@@frankkluz9787 I have suffered from PTSD most my life but was finally doing better because I had a garden and worked from home. Then I was attacked in Portland Oregon and it brought all those memories of trauma back to the surface. I have little to no appetite and barely sleep. If I get approved for disability I'm moving to thialand.
Thanks for that. Very interesting to know.
This is such a well done video about the cost of living in Pattaya. Thank you!
The question is not CAN you live on $1000...... the question is HOW will you live on $1000.
Wrong
Or more can u have fun/good life … nope
The question is- how much will you enjoy yourself.
Better than in England or anywhere else in west Europe ! This video was clear enough 4 your how !
Super informative stuff. Cheers!
Sweet video man. Thank you for the details
I appreciate your candor regarding living more comfortably at $2000 or even more. I think a lot of people of more modest means are lured over to Thailand with the idea you can live well on only $1000 dollars, only to have it not work out for them. More realism probably best serves those "dreaming" of living large in Thailand or elsewhere. Peace out.
Exactly, these videos make it seem like its the life when its really not much life at all. No exploring or having fun really. If you’re 75, you might make it. If you’re younger its a wrap.
True ..u need the extras like health insurance, travel insurance, travel costs etc
Very informative Adam....Thanks.
Hi Adam, next time when you visit your friend in Beach and Mountain Condominium, just come over to the third floor. The water bill here is 200 Bat a month which is paid by the landlord and if you do not use aircon that often you can easily cut in half your expenses for electricity
Hey Adam
Such a fantastic video. I wish to come and live in Pattaya for longer duration and this surely helps.
mad Live chat last night cheers for the shout out bra much respect your a boss love your vids
Thanks so much, thanks for being a member!!
Great video Adam. Keep it up mate
I really appreciated the way you broke down your expenses while also giving a glimpse into exactly what you spent money on. Kudos on that. The only real question I have is this... did that guy on the soccer field make a goal when he did that beck-flip kick? That was quite impressive (and iIm not a soccer fan). Thanks again!
Very nice video!
Hey Adam , Johnny from California just left Pattaya 3 days ago...
I'm in BKK on my last night... at Hillary 11 playing pool I wish I could live like that...
My cheapest day was 3 ,000 baht and I blew 7,000 baht in one night
In California we say work hard and Party even harder !
I hope to run into next !!!
And great job on your Channel
I wanna be like Adam !!!
Good on you brother ....
Requesting a series of these types of videos, from Tokyo, Shanghai, Manila, Delhi
I would kill to see you do a Vlog series in India!!!!
Omelette looks good Adam
Im happy just having a cheap condo and cooking at home, hitting the gym and going out on the weekends.
Good video Adam .. I have just got my bank account & one year retirement visa , yes , not cheap using an agent but it’s done. Going for a condo in bkk suburbs 9000 for 45 Sq m. It will do for a start. My budget 35,000TB pmth ..
hi there! i'm new here!!! very good information about the cost to live in pattaya or jomtien.
Cool man great video ,
I don't like both bars and clubs but I like to go out and eat and live in a nice clean safe condo.
Great vlog tanks
Great video
Good video, I am first time in Thailand and it all depends what I spend on my entertainment i spend 30K bath
If it wasn't for nightlife my cost if living in Thailand would definitely be under 1,000 USD😅 those clubs and casual fine dining put me at around 2k
I watch a lot of YT videos and it is constantly mentioned that people find it cheaper to eat out then to stay in and cook at home. That seems incredible since eating out is now so expensive in the US. That food looks good to me. Cheap beer from 7-11 too. Can you drink in public?
Great video, I will re-visit Jomtien Nov-Dec. 2023 of this year maybe we can meet up for a beer, I live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Ca
At 8.12 that was a spectacular goal!
Awesome video I’m hoping to move to Pattaya in February after my visit in November. Luckily, I’m retired from the state of California, so I have a pretty good income, shhhhh. It was funny as in Arizona, Ian, or tempus without a beard.
I'm guessing there's quiet a few places that 1 could live on $1000 usd a month but I couldn't see myself doing it. Just to many places to see & things to do there. 🍻😜 Great to get a baseline figure to live there though. Thanks Adam 👍
Agree 1000% I can pay my rent 6 to 12 months in advance and only spend 300 baht a day and I am happy.
Didn't know it was that cheap so close to the beach at Jomtien. Ever been in close areas outside Pattaya city and Jomtien to explore?
very easy.. just depends how much you wanna 'party' and/or live in 'Holiday Mode'..
Ok so a few things to consider: The air quality, water quality, and food quality are not always going to be "organic level" quality. Plus white rice with everything is not the best!! Hence, to get quality foods, you will need to spend a bit more
dude im looking for a good gym thats bumpin' any advice or tips can help alot
1 Word Outstanding. Wonder if your in Tokyo yet??
Hey, Adam...sitting here on Soi 8 having some amazing food. Would love to get together for a beer. Leaving on Monday for Phuket but back on 26th for three days. Let me know!
Loving a bit of biggie in the mix 👍
Adam, can you recommend the Visa agent you use, please 🙏
I can see you on the 4k a month rocking all the off white tees. They’re like 5-600 USD so sounds like your clothes shopping would add a fair bit as well.
I complete agree with you. If you don't hang out in bars too much, eat street food or cook at home, and get cheapish accommodation, $1000 is enough for a good lifestyle. I used to spend about that much when I lived there, however, I was working 5 days a week so I didn't have all day to spend money.
$4K USD per month??? Are you drinking Cristal champagne every night? Damn, that's quite a lot for Thailand.
he's saying he's drinking and getting himself some expensive company on the regular.
@@johns783 - His messages must be including "happy endings"!
Personally you can live at that price but i don't think it would be great on living in the tourist areas or Bangkok. Again depends on your needs, appetites and your wants. I always said $1400 would be my start price and the rest is then above comfortable living.
I live on $3000 a month on Long Island ny so I could definitely pull this off lol
Keis! Soon 50k! Gogo! 1k At old age with health insurance? No way, thats a dream only. You could do it "young" but not 60+ Good thing that you said 2k dollars at the end, probly what its gunna cost you long term with health insurance👍
It is like any country as far as how much your habits cost you as they are always your biggest expense. A good budget is the key to make your money go further.
A good budget AND spending discipline.
What soi in Jomtien did you get the bolognaise? I don't recognise that place at all. I want to go and try it!
Great vid but I’m guessing as soon as the cameras were switched off straight to the club popping bottles
I rented a house with 2 bedrooms and a large outdoor area with chairs and tables. it cost me 3000 baht a month it is about 20 minutes from central Pattaya. Food prices were about 30% lower, a Baht bus costs 20 Baht.
The baht busses are 10 baht each time..
The tip is, Don’t ask the price!
@keisone I come from Bangsare it's 20 Baht
It’s the girls where most guys start watching their budget blowout 😂
תודה!
Transports? Sure for 1000 Euro it will be fine with extras as buying clothes, shoes, (big sizes as sometimes very rare), massages, etc...
You can do it, but i'd want 3x that to be comfortable!
Wow nice place !
No it isn't. The biggest S hole in Thailand avoid at all costs
I just bought my plane tickets to Bangkok today. I’m coming for the Yi Peng festival in Chiang Mai in November. I’ll be in Thailand for 18 days and still trying to figure out my itinerary.
Bring your swimsuit, November weather can be very wet.
No walking Street barfines allowed in that budget lol
Thanks for the vlog Adam, returned from Pattaya last week, after a 6 week holiday, caught bloody Covid in the second week, just stayed in the hotel for 7 days.was out every second night with my mates that live there,LK,tree town.soi Pothole.tried to keep up with them but at 72,struggled a tad.been to Pattaya and HH many times, but always end up with crook guts, diarrhoea for days? I got told it’s the oil they cook in,not sure,do you have any issues? Planning to relocate from Sydney to Pattaya in late July, rent a condo fairly close to Bukhau.take care mate safe travels
yes its the oil and does the same for me, only option long term is cook yourself.
what visa agent did you use mate? also can anyone go on a business visa or is it todo with youtube? :)
Also following
This was a very good vlog.
Visas and Health Insurance are a big variable.
About to crack 50K! You had better get a shoe ready Adam!
Yes it is possible no issues.. but here is the thing, if you want company and very attractive company, $1000 dollars won’t get you too far.
For people under 30, you need 3k minimum to enjoy your self with an above average quality of life.
Koh Samui - 4k gbp per month is the sweet spot to live it up.
Who wants to go there to be stingy and live on a budget…
You could realistically live in parts of the UK, Italy, Spain or eastern EU for $1k per month
Hi what phone company do you use? I use AIS and get 5G unlimited they charge me 1.200 baht a month? Cheers
You can,
Mon - Fri : gym, cook my own food, read, study, 5 a side foot ball twice a week.
Sat-Sun : enjoy …

I don’t drink 😊
I see you’re staying at The Base 👍🏿
Hi, what visa agent do you use? Thanks
on my way September
Nice place and so cheap 😲🤗😊👍
for me is easy because I don't drink alcohol.
Always fun to do this. Yes you can exist on $1000 p/m, and make it sound fun, but it does make it very tight without much scope for 'doing things' and 'doing things' is what life is all about. The accommodation is cheap which is the main thing that makes it feasible, and if you are open minded about what you eat that helps. If you are really going to live there, you need money for health cover, and the cost of that varies on age and condition. It could blow the $1000 out of the water. Also, if you come from a Western country like the US, Australia or UK and you want one trip home each year to see your old friends, that is likely to be over $2000 adding a further $200 p/m to your budget. I think a better video is what do you need to live comfortably? A lot of guys on here are saying $2k and chocolate man did one where he spends $3k p/m which is probably a comfortable budget including everything.
Who are you using for your visa agent please?
Hello I love your channel! I'm looking to move or spend a lot if time in Thailand. Please could you talk more about your business Visa? I am either looking to get an elite VISA or invest the money into a business I would appreciate your advice. Thank you😊
how much are people saving to move to Pattaya permanently?
Hey who is your visa agent? I'm like legit moving to Pattaya from Atlanta next month lol!
Great
Did you see my interview on Retired Working For You about the cost of living in Koh Samui on $1000 per month?
I presume when you talk dollars its u.s. not Australian? . I'm looking at retiring in Thailand this year . So video much appreciated. Cheers
Thank you, does Bangkok cost more?
I been there at least 10 times but I will say u need at least 3k a month to really enjoy yourself and that includes the night life. But Thailand is a amazing place to be that's why I keep coming back
Maybe if you are on holidays and paying for hotels but rent makes it considerably cheaper 🥳
$3,000 is still reasonable.
What's the name of the condo?
Who is your visa agent bro education visa is like twice the price and I can’t find anyone yet for less
Hawaiian breakfast: eggs spam and rice
So , I will have around 2500$ as a pension wen I’m retired…can live good I hope.
An , a elite visa, a good thing to have ?
What visa are you on bro
Mate what phonecompany do you use..?
Government water!? All water is government water (PWA = Provincial Water Authority). You are most definitely paying for water, but it's probably a flat fee incorporated into the rent. Check your contract.
Nope, it's not enough but possible, you need at least $3K-$4K to live in Thailand.
