  • Can you really live in Pattaya for as low as $1000 per month? I genuinely believe you can, in Today's video, I show you what the complete cost of living in Thailand can look like. Pattaya is a cheaper part of Thailand to live, I show you around my friends condo in Jomtien Beach, and go through all the fixed costs of living in Pattaya as an expat, before creating a daily budget to show how that can look.

Actually even you do not drink at all it will still be easy for some and nearly impossible for others so what you said is a huge oversimplification of the issue. Whether you stay in your own country or move to Thailand some people are just going to be good at living on a budget while others will not be. Obviously anyone CAN live on that amount since millions of Thais do it with no problem. But whether a particular individual will do it or not is another story altogether. Anyway the biggest variable here after rent is food of course. Some people will spend less than 7000 a month on food and others might spend more than 30,000 a month on food without even realizing it. And of course, to live cheaply you not only need to eat mostly Thai food but you also have to find the cheaper Thai options. If you like to eat a lot of Western food however you will be in trouble. For example back home in California I could easily live on a food budget of $150 a month making all my own meals at home. But making those same dishes here would cost a fortune. The bottom line is if you only have $1000 a month and no savings this means the people who cannot budget well will be running out of money before the month is even half over. Also people have to keep in mind that your actual income here can vary a lot depending on the exchange rate. For example just a few years ago that $1000 was less than 30,000 baht a month and then about 6 months ago it was nearly 40,000 baht per month. So what you have to live on can vary drastically over time.

When you take into account, the sad amount the UK gives to pensioners, that is a good lifestyle, and more than pensioners would be able to do here. Beer £5-8 (depends where you live) energy costs, as in electric and gas are costing £200+ a moonth, water at £30 a week (aprox) food costs through the roof here. To a pensioner from the UK that would be paradise!

Things like getting semi-regular massages or fruit treats, ice creams, and a variety of other diversions or activities throughout your day in order to make it fun will add up. guaranteed you drink more than you think you would once you've been there, especially if you make friends. also no transport was included, nor any average for out of city travel. guarantee you that 1k a month lifestyle would be boring af pretty quick.

My scooter is 3.5k/month). I'm not on a budget when i'm in Thailand, im just not a big spender and my GF is also not a big spender and that helps ALOT.
If you don't drink every day and go out. Its easy on that budget. And during the week you spend less and then in the weekends you can spend a little bit more and go out, play some pool, get massage, etc.. Works very good.

For people under 30, you need 3k minimum to enjoy your self with an above average quality of life.
Koh Samui - 4k gbp per month is the sweet spot to live it up.
Who wants to go there to be stingy and live on a budget…
You could realistically live in parts of the UK, Italy, Spain or eastern EU for $1k per month

Always fun to do this. Yes you can exist on $1000 p/m, and make it sound fun, but it does make it very tight without much scope for 'doing things' and 'doing things' is what life is all about. The accommodation is cheap which is the main thing that makes it feasible, and if you are open minded about what you eat that helps. If you are really going to live there, you need money for health cover, and the cost of that varies on age and condition. It could blow the $1000 out of the water. Also, if you come from a Western country like the US, Australia or UK and you want one trip home each year to see your old friends, that is likely to be over $2000 adding a further $200 p/m to your budget. I think a better video is what do you need to live comfortably? A lot of guys on here are saying $2k and chocolate man did one where he spends $3k p/m which is probably a comfortable budget including everything.

Government water!? All water is government water (PWA = Provincial Water Authority). You are most definitely paying for water, but it's probably a flat fee incorporated into the rent. Check your contract.

Nope, it's not enough but possible, you need at least $3K-$4K to live in Thailand.
