  • How do you create a hole at assembly level as an assembly feature and have that show in the parts it passes through? Well obviously, I'm about to show you!

    You made a whole video just for me? Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. :)

      Haha yup, I've always said if a question comes through and it's something I can do pretty quickly and benefits other people then it's a good candidate for a video! I get a lot of long winded very niché specific questions which I just can't cover but things like this are simple enough!

      TFI While it is a bit ridiculous that Inventor doesn't give an option to do more with assembly features and sending them down to parts, this may be just the answer for me for now in order to try and make sure that holes through multiple parts line up and stay lined up. In an assembly it can get tedious to try and make sure that all of the holes for fasteners line up and without a hole analysis tool like Solidworks has, it is very easy to miss slight misalignments that would require remaking parts.
      Thank you for continuing to create relevant content!

    Thanks Neil for the awesome videos.
    I didn't found anything about pipe and tube on your channel. It would be highly appreciated if you post something cause I know you've got some magic on your pocket😉

    Great Channel! Can you maybe look at modelling a 2 part plastic assembly that could screw together. For example an enclosure that would house some electronics with holes in the side ready for connectors? I assume this would use some form of shell command to hollow out? Be great to see. Oh and how about a facebook page for TFI CAD Tips.

    Neil, could you do a tip on how to make mirrored assembly parts with interlocking mating surfaces, e.g. the parts are 90% the same but the mating surfaces are inversions of each other?

    Hi Neil, great video and a very clear explanation btw.
    I would like to request if you could make a video about using an icopy assembly.
    Where you could make a frame which can be copied and resize automatically when inserted, I've watched some videos on youtube but doesn't really help. pls pls pls if you have a spare time to do it pls. post..... thank you in advance!! cheers!

    Hi!
    I have a tough question I think.
    Can you explain a bit how iMates work? I've heard that it can be used in Assemblies to 'snap' components together.
    If so; can you make an 'assy' that snaps on I dunno, inlets or outlets?
    Scenario: A car engine assembly. The engineblock assemly and the exhaust assemblies put them in one bigger assembly and 'snap' the exhaustassemblies on the engine assembly.
    Hope that you are getting the idea what i'm asking here. If not; just ask.
    P.S. you're videos are great! Love to see some more complicated stuff also!

    thanks Neil! but I still have a problem to create a hole at assembly level to send to a part level (inventor 2019), could you clarify if I need to do something in options ? If I do the same like in your video doesn't work.

    Nice. However this doesn't appear to work in Inventor 2016. On sketch creation it gives an error. So this is only available in 2017?

    Please think again whether the creation of the second channel is a good move.I've seen youtubers who created a separate channel and the other channels usually do not have much publicity. As a result, they were abandoned and creators returned to one channel formula.
    Now you have quite large list of subscribers and the second channel will start again from almost zero.Regarding cluttering:
    - As a viewer, I can always skip uninteresting content; it's not a problem, I watch videos selectively (only those that interest me) on others channels.
    - Hardwear benchmarks, reviews are still (in my opinion) tips. Very useful CAD related tips and are perfect fit to this channel.
    - It doesn't seem to me that it is physically possible to create so many videos to justify the creation of a new channel (so far no daily video posting - a pity).

      Interesting. You've pretty much hit the nail on the head, I've already thought about everything that you've mentioned there and it's been on my mind a lot. And I completely agree with you, my preference would be to keep everything on this channel as the thought of starting from scratch again is making me want to self harm haha
      Trying to keep this short, it came down to the fact that this channel is purely Autodesk Inventor focused but the hardware stuff will apply to anyone in any industry using any 3D CAD program. Also, non-CAD users might show an interest in that tech content and if the channel is "CAD Tips" they might assume they've come across a one off video from a channel that isn't for them. I am still considering the options though, and my gut feeling is to keep it here. I'm not trying to cater for the potential cry babies, just trying to consider what makes more sense.
      And yea daily posting isn't an option at the moment unfortunately, not until I can just do RUclips and ditch my day job, I'm juggling so many different things at the moment. There's more news as well which I haven't formally announced as it was only confirmed today, the reason why I'm wanting/needing to diversify is that I've been approached by and snapped up by Pluralsight (I hadn't heard of them either until I Googled them) to do Inventor training courses for their site. So I can still do CAD tips here, but big tutorial stuff, proper structured training content will be done for Pluralsight.
      You've definitely made me think twice though, maybe I should straw poll it haha

      @hapventure7483 8 лет назад

      True, content is purely inventor focused but channel name is TFI CAD Tips, not TFI Inventor Tips.
      Hardware stuff sometimes will apply and sometimes will not apply to other 3D CAD programs. RAM, HardDrives, peripherals - easy and straight forward. CPU, GPU - not so easy. I don't know whether all Autodesk 3D programs uses DirectX API and how well multithreaded they are. For sure, competition SolidWorks/NX/Catia uses OpenGL and this is different story from GPU perspective. Also I know you won't cover "competition" stuff in any detail in predictable future :)For non-CAD users you will face such a big competition that it is not worth to have separate channel. For specific stuff people certainly will find you via search bar.I'm not trying to force you to my opinion. I just want to give some (I hope good) advice. I enjoy your channel very much, have seen every single video, love your style. I'm stealth subscriber (you know: paranoid mode - they watching my every move ;) and not so stealth pateron (but shhhh... no one should know). Diversifying is good. In niche topics YT is good as hobby or part of Bigger Uber Plan - marketing/recognizability tool (and I'm sure you know that). Wish you best with Pluralsight :) Realy :)

    Which CAD program is most bottlenecking for PC hardware...?

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  8 лет назад

      Wow that's actually an amazing question, having only ever worked with Inventor I wouldn't know how demanding the others are but that's something I'd love to find out. It would be difficult to answer though, because different programs are meant to be for different industries. Like Revit is designed to work with massive building models, Catia can be used for aircraft design, Inventor is for manufacturing and machinery type work. So it's a difficult one but I'd love to find out!

    Complete garbage and one of the reasons why I'd never recommend Inventor to anyone. This cheap trick doesn't address any other shape that isn't an normal circular hole. No oval holes, slots, no squares, no hexagons...nothing. With Inventor, you're out of luck. And stop saying there is a reason for assembly features not offering the option to be applied down to part level other than pure incompetence. All the other CAD programs cad do this.
