Hi from Ukraine, thank you for your reaction! As the author explained, this song is a manifest against violence, about victims of it and was born from her experience of working on the de-occupied Ukrainian territories from russia as a volunteer where she heard a lot of horrible stories about violence toward women there that were done by the occupants
Ukrainians are here! The girl in the interview said that the topic of violence and abuse is not raised enough and her song is exactly about this. Quote from the interview ''I'm afraid to tell this, because it is very personal not only for me, but also for many others. I performed in the de-occupation and heard many stories about how women were abused and raped. It's terrible and my song is like a manifesto against violence against women''
2:22 You mentioned you recognized the instrument earlier that makes sort of a buzzing rhythmic sound, it’s a jaw harp and it originates from east Turkic people in Siberia. It’s also a traditional instrument in Ukraine and we call it a drymba.
Abiie mentioned that her song was inspired by her volunteering in de-occupied regions in the South of Ukraine where she spoke to different women about their experiences during the invasion. The song is about dealing with trauma and assault, which some people are scared to talk about so she sings about it “with their voices”. The lyrics, however, don’t speak about it openly and are very cleverly constructed. They seem simplistic at first but actually very poetic and metaphorical
