I just finished restoring a 79 falcon! Used vinegar to to remove corrosion and it works perfectly. Did the same with a white TIE and white X Wing. Great video - hasn't aged a bit!
I'd definitely say the Millennium Falcon was the gold standard of Star Wars toys back in the day and it is still a stand-out toy. I remember as a boy desperately wanting one, but it was just too expensive. I got into collecting again in my early 20's and I actually bypassed this and got myself an AT-AT. But two years ago I got my son (cough) a Millennium Falcon, I think it came out about 2004? Has gun and engine lights, it's pretty awesome. Loved watching this video, thank-you for sharing!
I began restoring SW toys almost 4 years ago as a means to begin collecting and was very inspired by Retroblasting and ToyPolloi. My first resto was the Falcon, as this was a ship I never got as a child, actually I never got any SW toys. My collecting and restoring has led to an eBay business and now my restorations fly out as fast as I list them. I've restored 5 Falcons thus far and it's really a joy giving them a second lease on life, but most of all, helping another "OT" kid like myself reconnect with their childhoods.
I restored my childhood Kenner Millennium Falcon from 1979 last month. I used Salon Care professional volume 40 developer cream ,Saran wrap and a black light to restore the yellowing plastic back to its original white color. The results are amazing how well it works. Replaced all the decals Its like I just pulled it out of the box from Christmas 1980.
When I was a kid I had the POTF2 Falcon which was constructed using the same molds as the 1979 original. So I can understand your nostalgia towards the one you had growing up. You have many fond memories of pretend space battles and flying this massive thing around the house, which can outweigh any new technological advances with something new. So while I do have the BMF and it is fantastic, I still could not get rid of my POTF2 Falcon, despite the fact you cannot fit the figures with it. Like you I also flew mine around the house, or outside evading my friend's TIE Fighters. This is something no amount of movie accurate sounds, or design, extra row of seating, added lighting ports can ever replace the childhood nostalgia... not completely.
Thanks for watching. I was completely blown away by the video Michael made. Finally I could display my Falcon the way I wanted it to look. If you get around to it, get yourself another vintage Falcon. It will probably be cheaper to be one that needs to be restored. After you finish with whatever additional costs you have it will probably still be cheaper. Hang tight and watch for my next review next week.
Awesome ,I always wanted a Millennium Falcon but my mom never got me one 😭 ,though i got a tie fighter ,and a AT AT walker I guess my mom knew i was more into the bad guys, which I was Lol. I was 7 yrs old ,when the Empire strike back came out, the late 70s early 80s was a great time to be a kid. Thanks for sharing
Awesome job I did one this past summer I started with the ramp I got in a job lot bought everything off of eBay retro blasting and toy polloi best toy restoring videos on you tube
God, the memories this brings back!!! I always loved this vehicle/playset!!! I always had it set up with Chewie in the cockpit Han under the right "mandible" with a piece of white cloth like he was wiping it down Luke Obi Wan R2 and C3PO walking towards the ramp to recreate the Mos Eisley escape scene and also had a few stormtroopers on the far end of the dresser. Now when I played with the actual playset inside I had it as the scene where they are on the way to Alderaan. This WAS the toy of toys back then to have. This and the AT-AT were my prized Star Wars toys
@@toy_room_of_insanity you're welcome :-) these were the toys that made our childhood fun and made for some of the fondest memories!!! I enjoyed your review very much and also thank you for sharing as well!!!
Finally got to see this. It is amazing you still have yours and it is a good condition along with the box. I sold mine because a couple of pieces were missing and I had a 1995 one by then. Wish I would have kept it. At least it is in the credits of the Force Within Us movie forever! Retroblasting is a favorite since I found them last year. Nice they are on a podcast once a month too and Michael even took the time to be on one of my live shows. Too cool!
Last year I found this outside someone's house, ready for bin collection ! They probably thought it was worthless, what being covered in dirt + non-SW stickers, but I cleaned it up good + proper !
LOL you forgot to explain the landing gear putty fix hahaha. I'd already seen the other video, so I already knew about it. Someone in the comments on video 5 said you can fix it for real with just a hair dryer and a flathead screwdriver., no disassembly required. I have a POTF Falcon that's always trying to pop a wheelie, so I may give it a try, or even make a video.
The Millenium Falcon is the ship childhood dreams are made of! ♥ And yes, Mike of Retroblasting is a genius. Love their stuff. Also, is that a bossa nova version of the asteroid theme near the end there?
I remember getting this when i was like 8 and my father telling me that he would put the stickers on and for me NOT too. Ofc being a kid I couldn't wait, so I put them on. I put the chessboard sticker in the hole where the radar dish went LOL. It sucked because once it went in there..it was not coming out lol. Loads of fun playing with this.
Restoring a 1980's millenium falcon for my son for Christmas. Where is the best place to get new stickers. He has been working on his collection for a couple years and this is his ultimate gift. He loves the vintage not so much the new stuff. So I have done lots of tooth brush scrubbing and fixing. Now for the finally. Maybe he can even put them on himself.
Send me a private message with your email and I will send you the sheet to print out. You will need sticker paper, a very sharp hobby knife and a lot of patience!
This toy was amazing when it came out. I think they should've made a newer falcon for power of the force it seems outdated in that line. Great reveiw btw
There's a good chance, if you clean (or file down the contacts) the oxidation off the terminal surfaces of the motor and battery door, it will work again. Many times you can clean your plastic with attached original decals in cold water carefully with a sponge an dish soap then rinse in cold carefully. I recently cleaned up an 1979 Falcon this way and only suffered minimal damage to a couple of the original decals. Check out my video of an 79 falcon with moving radar mod.: Original 1979 Kenner Millennium Falcon With Real Turning Radar Modification.
Thanks man! Much appreciated. Thanks again for your help. This makes 2 restored Falcons. "Come on people, get your Falcon out from storage and restore it!!!"
I just heard about and supported a petition to save Star Wars toy designer Mark Boudreaux who design Kenner’s Millenium Falcon. Laura Lee Anguilar started it 4 weeks ago and provided the following details. Mark Boudreaux is currently at the Bethesda North Hospital in Ohio, having been there for over a year on a ventilator as treatment for covid, which "appears to contradict every health care standard when it comes to ventilator use." (as reported by the Epoch Times article, 'Star Wars Toy Designer's Galactic Battle over Covid ventilator use' - March 9, 2023) Mark is in a catch-22 here, as the extreme amount of time on the ventilator has destroyed his lungs, causing him to require a lung transplant that he is not eligible for because of the destruction of his lungs and health as a consequence of his treatment at Bethesda North. This beloved toy designer and his wife have exhausted every avenue of assistance in their cause, except for their fellow Americans who can come alongside them to put a spotlight on the parties that can alleviate the suffering of their patient. There oath requires that 'first, they do no harm' - but if they fail in their oath, they should do everything in their power to restore the health that their actions and protocols have diminished. This man wants to live! In appreciation for all he has done for us through his talent and designs, let us help him to truly enjoy the rest of his life as a healthy human being again. We petition Bethesda North to seek every avenue possible in providing Mark Boudreaux with the lung transplant he needs to live. At the moment, we only need 443 more signatures to reach the next goal. Please chip in $2 to distribute this petition or share with one other person instead by copying the link via Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Email, or Messenger.

Mint! What a beauty! 🎉
Yes indeed!
I've used buck Rodgers theme in a prior video isn't it epic 😎. The force will be with you always.
+MNC122703 Thanks!
It was only 24:99 at the time?
Yep, and that was not cheap for back then!
Thanks a lot. More videos to come!
its the ultimate playset
Don't use the poster putty on the landing gear. Heat in hot water, bend the tabs out, then set with cold water. Works great everytime.
Good tip! I will for sure take care of that
Thanks Sir! It is the greatest. Looking forward to your next review.
Lightsabers, the most dangerous weapon in the universe can cut trough anything, gives it to a kid to wave around blindfolded inside a spaceship.
