How did you do the materialisation effect?

I got a picture of the area, and another one with the Box there, and with the Box image I overlayed it on the one with no Box and I put keyframing on the opacity, where it fades in, then fades out, and slowly the Box gets more and more visible, then finally it lands, at 100% opacity
