I recall seeing some hurling on the telly (a final on World of Sport, maybe) many, many years ago. One lad got a hurley broken across his face (no helmets then) and hit the deck hard. He got up, shook his head a bit, spat the blood out and was running about like a spring lamb in moments. This isn't a game for the faint of heart or worry about getting a few knocks.

As a lifelong sports fan, follow and participate in many kinds of sports, watched many professional sports while visiting many countries , I would say Irish sports(Hurling and Gaelic football) is the sports at the purest form. Used to work in Ireland as an engineer, one of my coworkers played for the local team, and was actually a local star, the local team, like many other professional sports teams in the world, have tickets revenue(sold out every game), sponsorship, board cast nationwide, one day I asked him didn't the team pays him well that he has to do another job in this company, and I still remember what he said: we don't get paid, we play for glory.
Impressed he knows what lacrosse is as an Irishman, brings a tear to my eye lol. I played back in my school days, some great times. New fan, I’ve been watching a lot of games on RUclips. My main question is do Ireland, and North Ireland play in the same league?
Marc yea there is it’s the UK side. I’m guessing guessing though over there it’s all just Ireland no matter what country since the island is named Ireland
Yes Northern Irish counties do take part, but they're very shit at it. Hurling just isn't popular up there, they all play Gaelic football instead, which is like hurling but with a football.
I believe wholly that the difference between hurling and other sports is that you are born with the skill of it coursing through your veins. If you don’t have a history of hurling in your family it is hard to muster the passion, pride and commitment to be really good. My own family is in its 5th generation of hurlers. Family, Parish and County fall in that order like the Celtic warriors of old. Playing a game that encompasses 3000 years of sporting heritage is a high that you wont get from any drug. When the rush of adrenaline hits you when you have just scored that impossible score its addictive.
I hate seing people it the comments calling it a mix of lacrosse and tenis and rugby.. Its thousands of years older than that and helmets only became mandatory a few years ago
My grandfather grew up in cork. He told us a story of a kid he knew dying because he got hit in the stomach with a hurling ball. It is a great sport but it can be fatal without protection.
I was at those Super 11 matches you showed at Fenwya. Thought it was hysterical that the ref needed to watch the big screen in order to figure out who to give penitalies to for the big fight!
I’m from Athlone Westmeath. We have every sport imaginable here except hurling. I can only imagine how bad our hurling team is and I’ve never seen them play before. I pride myself in being a sporty person but I was useless when I played with my cork cousin who was 7 years old and not very athletic. This is weird because it should by in my blood.
Irish people are fascinating! :)
Just saw this for the first time. Now, I'm a fan.
No matter what side yer on
Or what your political/ religious background is
I do feckin love this island of ours
Impressed he knows what lacrosse is as an Irishman, brings a tear to my eye lol. I played back in my school days, some great times. New fan, I’ve been watching a lot of games on RUclips. My main question is do Ireland, and North Ireland play in the same league?
GAA is universal on the island
Marc yea there is it’s the UK side. I’m guessing guessing though over there it’s all just Ireland no matter what country since the island is named Ireland
Yes Northern Irish counties do take part, but they're very shit at it. Hurling just isn't popular up there, they all play Gaelic football instead, which is like hurling but with a football.
On the bois never expected hurling a semi pro sport would be on this Chanel
Proud to be from Ireland 🇮🇪
It's fully amatuer
I believe wholly that the difference between hurling and other sports is that you are born with the skill of it coursing through your veins. If you don’t have a history of hurling in your family it is hard to muster the passion, pride and commitment to be really good. My own family is in its 5th generation of hurlers. Family, Parish and County fall in that order like the Celtic warriors of old. Playing a game that encompasses 3000 years of sporting heritage is a high that you wont get from any drug. When the rush of adrenaline hits you when you have just scored that impossible score its addictive.
Its a good video. And the game seems more fun than cricket.. (runs away)
Better run better run outrun my bat
Yup just like lacrosse is more fun than baseball. Hurling is more fun than cricket.
Naa i think cricket is equal fun
They are opposite.
Hurling is break neck speed, and Highly skilled, blink and you will miss it,.
Cricket Takes 5 days to play.
I think for me cricket is more fun to play, hurling is more fun to watch
I've never seen a channel more effectively dance around making satisfying videos than this fucking channel.
I like how they have to put brackets on some words for people that don’t understand their slang 😂😂😂
It was so weird. Every time he said "would be" they replaced it with "is"
It's not slang so much as dialect.
I’ve been waiting for this for years
Would love to hear more about how Genesis inspired this story.
the greatest channel on youtube.

Wish I could say the same about hurling but atleast we won 6 all Ireland in a row.... or 5 I cant count know 😂😂😂😂
And did we need to know 💔
Amazing what JP's money can do😉
I hate seing people it the comments calling it a mix of lacrosse and tenis and rugby..
Its thousands of years older than that and helmets only became mandatory a few years ago
Hurling is the best sport ever 💚
My grandfather grew up in cork. He told us a story of a kid he knew dying because he got hit in the stomach with a hurling ball. It is a great sport but it can be fatal without protection.
Kane Newman Deaths are very rare though and that time hurling balls were a lot heavier than they are now
Donegal in a video about hurling was the last thing I was expecting to see
I was at those Super 11 matches you showed at Fenwya. Thought it was hysterical that the ref needed to watch the big screen in order to figure out who to give penitalies to for the big fight!
When mom wouldn’t let you learn to play lacrosse
way older than lacrosse
I’m from Athlone Westmeath. We have every sport imaginable here except hurling. I can only imagine how bad our hurling team is and I’ve never seen them play before. I pride myself in being a sporty person but I was useless when I played with my cork cousin who was 7 years old and not very athletic.
This is weird because it should by in my blood. Lots of my family have hurled for cork and I wanted to give it a go because I knew I’d be good at it but there were no teams to play for.
@Marc lol no one here would know cuz we don’t watch them. Perhaps it’s better in mullingar
I got a unskippable great big story ad on this video
I love how they put subtitles in because of his accent
I can’t believe tip bet us 😭😭💜💛💜💛
Bullyhunter Junior I’m from cork but I was going for limerick unlucky
2 hurling final tickets want to swap for 2 football final tickets?
I just got a great big story ad on a great big story video
Was disliked by 128 crumpet lovers
This looks cool!
What about lacrosse?
I play lacrosse and I would love to see a video on lacrosse!! 🥍
You my friend would be identified as a "gimp" in Ireland
What’s lacrosse???
Well there is a search box in youtube type in desired video and shazam desired video will appear 👍
It's not just fast it's tough. And from an ice hockey fan...you already know I'm enjoy this sport, and I just found out about it a week ago lol
what? have you ever even seen it? its by far ten times faster than ice hockey lmfao
Hirmutav calm down Irish boy when did I say hockey was more faster? But actually I’m going to have to disagree. Because ice hockey is on ice, and since it has hits and fighting encouraged, imo it is faster.
@@valeuudiste4664 how?
When you create a mixture of cricket, football, hockey and tennis.
I am irish and hurling is one of the best irish sport ever proud to be irish🎉🎉🎉
Sporty guys in skimpy shorts, what's not to like?
Bit of a creepy comment...
@@Silverag212 Lots of people like guys in skimpy shorts. If you don't then piss off.
@@mintysingularity wierdo
You're probably imagining what they'd look like without shorts. You're sitting there, imagining that, with a big smile on your face. Ya dirty fecker! lol
@@rat7703 why do you care so much? In any case, remember this the next time you or your m8s are oggling women and talking about their body parts and what you'd do to them.
