Hey Luke that's for the tip on polish on the UC3. What a difference it makes, I like my UC3 even better now. Used it all three games in league. Layout 4x4x2 loving the different motion the polish is giving me.
I know that this is a bit late considering the release date for both of the featured balls, but I also have both the UC3 and the Nova and am a two handed righty, and I also see the similarity between the two. Both are early hybrids, both with pearl additives. My first Nova unfortunately cracked, but that gave me the opportunity to give it a slightly weaker drilling with my CG slightly closer to my PAP and my pin about 4.5" from my PAP, and I can easily say that both the Nova and my UC3 are great for higher rev guys who need control as well as enough pop off the end to kick out the corners. However I do sometimes need to use something to bridge the gap occasionally like my Wild Streak between the two as my Nova covers a lot of boards. Fantastic job by Storm/Roto Grip as always. Hope this could be of some help to someone out there on the Internet
Thanks Luke this is a perfect example of Don't buy the next newest thing ( Unless it fills a big hole in your arsenal)as the new balls are just MINOR tweeks to what has already been made due to the rules limits on Core/Covers. Bowlers are better off getting another ball that they like and stash it or make a layout or surface change at a cheaper price than the new ones. I have already stashed away a Phase II, Hustle Camo and Burner Solid as these work best for me. Hint don't wait to get your stash ball(s) as all the new ones or the ones already ( Except the GOAT balls) will not make it to next year before being replaced.
I like the adjustment you made from 4-3/4 X 3-1/2x 3-1/2, going to the UC3 4-1/2x3-1/2x2-1/2 was a smart move, it moved better than the other layout, but you can tell you were or are happier with the 4-1/2 more so the other. Congrats for that move. Any more adjustments keep me in mind if you feel the proton needs to be 4-1/2 for me rather the other I use 4-3/4?? Thank you so much for your help…how is Jonathan doing?
Luke, you mentioned that you thought the look with the new Nova layout would improve with shine. Did you find that to be true? Referencing the earlier Nova vs Reality Check video, the first Nova became a marble with shine. Now that some time has passed, what are your thoughts about what would be the best surface to use on a THS? Thanks!
It does get quite a bit weaker with shine. With as early and smooth as it was out of the box, I thought a little shine would balance it out. It gets longer but it stays smooth, so realistically it looks better with a little surface
No unfortunately, Storm prefers I use their layout system for our videos. They do correlate to dual angle numbers and there are conversion charts out there to convert them, but I'll be continuing to use VLS numbers for the foreseeable future. For example, 4 3/4 x 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 is something like 45 x 4 3/4 x 45. First number in vls is pin to pap, second number is essentially the drilling angle, and third number is the val angle. Higher the vls number, the higher the angle, and 0-90 dual angle numbers are 0-6 3/4 vls, so you can even "guesstimate" them without a chart/conversion
I think it's something like 45 x 4 3/4 x 45 for my regular layout. Storm prefers we use their layout system in videos rather than dual angle, so that's why I don't use it
Yep, that's another thing, with the Incite gone, I don't really need to look around for blanks of it since we have the Nova. The Nova core is a little stronger and the cover is a little weaker, but overall it's close enough that I'm good.
Urethane that flares (like the UC3) actually creates about the same transition as a normal (flaring) reactive resin ball... so there's not really much difference between a UC3 and a Phaze II (for example) in terms of how they'll transition the lane if you put the same layout and surface on them.
@@ShimWreckerEnterprises i was just hoping for a realworld experience from someone that uses it, or maybe some kind of actual testing. I know that in theory it should be like a regular reactive, that's why i bought/use it. But my friends were complaining about carrydown when i was using it yesterday. Said I made a deadspot at breakpoint downlane they had to scoot around.
That's just because they think urethane causes carry down, but like James said, it doesn't. Lack of flare is what causes carry down. But because you're using "urethane," they're going to think they're seeing or feeling things they really aren't.
That's a really good question. I think it would still be generally less ideal because when I run into covers that are stronger than this, they're just going to bog down and give up. What seems like a minimal difference on paper made quite a sizeable difference on the lane between these two layouts.
THIS is the best kind of Luke Rosdahl video besides the reaction doctor

KEEP BEING SUPER INFORMATIVE would have been a better choice of description…… anyway keep being the GOAT 🐐
Nice layout comparison. The explanations you give for each layout are pretty helpful. Definitely like the roll of your newest Nova.

Incredible idea Luke. Great discovery. Nice one-two punch!
Great detailed video!!
But how does it roll down the dinosaur
Asking the important questions... I dig it
Commenting for the algorithm, love the layout comparisons!

Very well explained.

Love your vids. Can you start adding in the dual-angle layout numbers to your regular layout numbers?
No unfortunately, Storm prefers I use their layout system for our videos. They do correlate to dual angle numbers and there are conversion charts out there to convert them, but I'll be continuing to use VLS numbers for the foreseeable future. Luke what would be dual angle numbers on those balls I think that would help with your videos.
I think it's something like 45 x 4 3/4 x 45 for my regular layout. Storm prefers we use their layout system in videos rather than dual angle, so that's why I don't use it
Your 2nd Nova looks similar to your Incite from last year 😎

I just watched it again it seems a lot of miss hits and like you weren’t happy with the 4-3/4?
do you ever notice carrydown issues using the uc3 as benchmark? or is it not-urethane/assymetrical enough not to carry oil down for you?
this please
Urethane that flares (like the UC3) actually creates about the same transition as a normal (flaring) reactive resin ball... so there's not really much difference between a UC3 and a Phaze II (for example) in terms of how they'll transition the lane if you put the same layout and surface on them.
@@ShimWreckerEnterprises really good to know! Makes me feel better about throwing the uc3 earlier
