    One of the greatest sopranos to emerge on the America operatic scene...a huge vocal talent, with a silvery tone and exquisite use of legato.

    She possessed one of the most beautiful lyric soprano voices that I have ever heard. I never tire of hearing her sing ANYTHING. In the 1990's I saw her and Frank Lopardo in La Fille Du Regiment, and both of whom were wonderful.

      Frank Lopardo wonderfull ? I will answer with quotation of John Wayne as Ethan: that will be the day. Lopardo was a terrible tenor.

      In my opinion, the Met is run by bigots.

    • @Hako2004
      @Hako2004 5 лет назад +4

      @@knotmyline Her problems had nothing to do with race. Her problems were with verbal abuse of other cast members, and creating a hostile work environment. Dress rehearsals were a nightmare. Kathleen had one of the most beautiful soprano voices America ever produced, and had a marvelous career at the Met , as did Leontyne Price, but she became a liability.

    • @knotmyline
      @knotmyline 5 лет назад +6

      @@Hako2004It was definitely racism as the Met obviously strives to be white. Much like the rest of American society, black artists at the Met must always defer to their white overlords and must never be 'Uppity" or they will lose their jobs. As did Miss Battle. It was a racist action on the part of the Met, and I suspect that the racism there is no better today than it was then. The Met apparently has made a deliberate effort to remain white. It will take a concerted effort for the Met, its staff, musicians, and performers to even begin to reflect the same racial percentage as our Nation. I suspect that the Met would rather become obsolete than become truly integrated.

    • @Hako2004
      @Hako2004 5 лет назад +8

      @@knotmyline And how did Miss Battle get to the top in the first place? If racism was what the Met was "striving" for, why did they hire her, and feature her as a star on their roster? Are you suggesting that the Met didn't notice that she was black...until later in her career? What you are saying is total nonsense. Gibberish. Like all great talent, she got to the top because of her talent, but fell because she made poor choices professionally.
