@Angelo Griffin thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Outstanding breakdown. I took off a couple of years ago and wasn't ready for the reality, I had my house in Texas I didn't let go of and had the van and trailer with the Harley. Got too expensive real fast. Back to work now and making a better plan for the next time.
"We travel with one Harley-Davidson...need I say more." I almost split a gut laughing. My buddy has a Road Glide, and barely makes half our group rides (H-D being "fixed," "on the stand," or similar nonsense). When he does finally show up, saddle bags are stuffed with oil quarts, rags, replacement parts, and wrenches. Worst of all he cannot even keep up with our Goldwings. Not even close, especially in the twisties. We make him ride in back because of the offensive noise pollution, but he does not seem to mind. Safe travels. No worries on that BMW. I still miss my R1200RT.
Rich - who does the editing - almost cut that comment out and while it's unfortunate that his bike needs more TLC than mine, it's what was in the garage when we decided to do this whole adventure, so that's what we have to work with. It builds character and perseverance.
Great information... On my trips, I blow past my trip budget... So your planning and discipline and teamwork works well. Your money savers do add up, and you do it all enjoying yourselves. That’s awesome! Great video.
I live in a tent full time. You don’t need as much as what she says. Nowhere NEAR. I got a super nice canvas bell tent for like $420 off amazon, but Walmart sells even cheaper ones. Get a wool blanket and propane stove. They have ones that fold down to basically nothing. Go somewhere warm if you don’t want the cold. Non-winter places exist.
Would not have imagined that much money, but realistically when you accurately add it all up, it makes sense. Down the road when you two are 55 years old, T-Mobil has a smokin deal and terrific coverage. I'm all over the country on my Harley and yeah from time to time it'll through me a curve. But I'm able to send it home if need be, kudos to you two on your journey, thanks for the info.
Thanks for the tip on T-Mobile - will definitely be checking what deals they have to offer. It would be nice to have better coverage than what we've been getting so far. Ride safe!
For over 20 years my wife and I have traveled, usually for 3 to 6 months in the winter. We shut down our house in NH so we don't have to heat it. The fuel and power savings normally cover our camping and travel expenses. Last year we tented and stayed on a 19 foot sailboat we towed behind the SUV. Unexpected vehicle, trailer, and boat repairs blew our budget. It doesn't take much. Not only did we have to spend on repairs, we had to book more hotel nights. Your numbers look about right to me. Thanks for sharing. Happy trails! We are sitting out this year due to being high risk, but can't wait to travel again.
Useful info. Ebooks make a ton of sense - I know I tote around hundreds of books in my tablet. And I really like that little solar panel you all use. Hey, money is meant to be spent and it sounds like you all have good handle on the budget. Enjoy and ride safe.
Well said, That want matter dollars and cents, it's not a vacation all the time and you should not be in a rush, Setting up a base camp and seeing the area your in is a great plan, I need to get the power set up for boondocking, You guy think of a Wifi booster to help out with signal. Thanks for the TIps, that's why I watch you guys so we can see what we will be getting into. I have a warranty on my bike always. Safe travels.
I don’t see how they have insurance an also dental for that kind of price I’m on Medicare an a supplemental plan an it’s a lot more than what they paying an no dental plan?
I really appreciate your Channel and your transparency thank you so much I live on a ranch and I only travel 3 months a year but this is a big help thanks again God bless
I only use my van for weekend trips I sat down and check. and for me living in my apartment is a lot cheaper a lot more comfortable then living in a van. I would have to give up so much I am not willing to give up everything that I work so hard for. I just had a knee replacement I would be screwed if I was living in a van. So think twice before you go to live a simple life it ends up being not so simple. For me it's not how I want to live my life in a tin box but you might find it marvelous.
Yes, thank you for sharing. When I was listening and heard about the $800 for food the first thing crossed my mind was wow that's a lot. But honestly, people need to think about the fact that you are traveling on a motorcycle and not hauling a REFRIGERATOR on the back of your bike. There's no way to be cost conscious about the food you are buying... definitely no buying in bulk!!! So grocery is going to cost you a lot even if you do a lot of the cooking unless you eat the cheap fast food which is not good for you. So keep up the awesome work. I love the fact that you guys are camping, and I'm one of those weird people who enjoys it when you do food cooking moments.
There's one at least channel where a guy is traveling and living in a van converted to electric motor and huge array of solar panels that are on the roof and pull out awnings. These will charge the lithium battery banks they have to run the motor and all appliances they have on board. Their range is about 300 miles and the batteries will fully charge in a day or so. So they can go place to place wait to charge before moving on again. Wild free camping . This will be the future once costs to build come down. Kind of like sailing on land rent free no bills.
Your doing great on your expenses. When my wife and I travel all over on our motorcycle, because she refuses to camp we spend about $7500 a month for lodging, food and gas and repairs.. Keep the great video's coming, I've watched everyone you've made. Glen
Nitro 54 - that seems like a very realistic number. Not everyone likes to tent. Not everyone likes to eat whatever the significant other prepares. As long as you can afford it - enjoy it ❗️

Chris.... my question is.... how long do you think you will continue to do this and what do you see as the longer term plan (especially considering the rigours of motorcycling) ? @@TwoWheelsBigLife I use to stay south of San Diego close enough to walk to the Mexican border, in fact, if you climbed the hill to get wi fi, you could see the Mexican town. I was in a motorhome at that time so I can't say how cold it was at night, but it was quite warm during the day.

My last outing (5 years ago) was a week at Glacier Ntl park. When I topped off the tank back home my week had cost a total $240. ! I pull a home made trailer behind an R100.
Interesting info. I have lived on the edge of the desert in a tent for 4 years. It is not easy, comfortable much of the time,& on 1500 a month which is never enough with food often scarce. Different experiences for different people. Good Luck.
I think the major point missing is that you need to get rid of your debts. It will make it easier. Yes it can be done. Yea, you may go cheaper but you decided that this is the best bang for the buck. Good for you.
Greta video! I’m a little shocked is so expensive to live off motorcycles honestly! This has been a retirement dream of mine for several years. Being self employed I don’t really have a pension or retirement unless I pay into it. Maybe you both had better jobs then me to make something like this work. I would absolutely love to ride sometime with y’all for the day! But in all honestly is seems like it almost cost just as much as living at my house with a mortgage? I know you also don’t have vehicle bills which is a great advantage. I recently traded my special edition ram in on a little Jeep Renegade for a payment that’s less the. Half of the ram and double the fuel mileage. I think I would need a huge patron and lots of free camping to made something like that affordable . And even then I’d be afraid my money would drain to fast! We're trying to live more in the present, but still have some flexible plans if we need to step back into society. We might have to look into workamping at some point. As for burnout, whenever one of us is getting tired we immediately find a campground with more than the usual amenities and just do some R&R. So far that's been a good reset for us.
@@TwoWheelsBigLife Thanks for the response. I guess I'm wondering if this is something I want to do, or just another "whim". You guys make it all look so easy. My luck doesn't always run as smoothly. I could try it for a month or two before I committed to selling the house. We'll see what a post-covid brings. 😷 Have fun!
I just started out on the road not too long ago here in Australia. I got to say that is close to what expenses I am running on and Australia is a damn expensive place to travel (though my food is not as nice as your meals I've seen you cook!!! 🤣). I think when I upgrade to my next motorbike when I get on the mainland of Australia my expenses will go up. Keep rocking on...you inspire many including me. 👍
Boy can we relate. While we are not living full time on a bike like you guys, we have been full time RVers in our now 2018 Keystone Raptor for 5 years. Friends have said oh what a cheap lifestyle that must be without having to live n a sticks and bricks. 😝 It really is not but we too have met RVers who live on a $500 a month budget by boon docking every night. But it’s a life style we love
Great video. Yes it's a lot for some people, we though that it would be more. We live in California and this cost doesn't cover our mortgage . So if we get rid of out home and hit the road, we would live like royalty lol. Question...Are your bikes paid off? Although we travel long distances, the longest we've been out is 84 days and we do a lot of camping. However, we budget for hotels only, so when we get camp, its a major saving for us.
@4:15 ha, this is why I got a BMW like yours for my solo long trips. (I have an HD too) I have known too many bikers over the years who told me about their HD road problems. I always figured they usually road in groups because someone is going to have a breakdown. Sorry, HD I loved the HD styling but QA was & is not a strong suit for solo riders.
I'm about to start a conversion on a 1997 Chevy Astro. Yes the nomadic life has expenses, but they are mostly expenses you'd have anyways. Phone bills, insurances, gas, food, and other necessities. The difference, and the reason I'm starting my journey, is that you get to save on rent/mortgage payments, as well as utilities. I work for doordash so i'll be able to work wherever I please, and travel to cities that I know are going to pay well, and that means more money in my pocket. Wonderful video, thank you for sharing.
Sounds very expensive. I'm on Disability but live a Nomadic lifestyle. But I do have a two bedroom apartment. I'm lucky though. It's Native Housing. I only pay $152 a month for Rent. I pay $45 a month for my home internet. And It only Costs me maybe $50 a week to eat. Cell Plan - Unlimited Talk & Text in North America $30 a Month. I don't have a vehicle. I ride a MTN Bike. And I still have about $850 -1000 left over. I do love my Beer and Food Trucks though! Lol I don't even sleep in a Tent most the time. I just sleep on the grass under a Tarp. Sometimes I don't even use a Tarp. But hey, that's just me. Great Video Guys! Cheers! 🍻
@@TwoWheelsBigLife OH I know it's for two. I took that into consideration but just one of your monthly budgets is a lot more than mine. But you have a lot of extra expenses. I totally understand why. You're older and don't rough it as much as I do. I sleep on benches and in fields. No tents. No nothing. You guys live pretty comfy compared to me. I live live like a homeless bum eating $1 beans straight out the can. I've been on and off the street and in and out of jail half my life. I'm use to it. I like being on the move. New faces. New scenery. Waking up somewhere different every day. I'm just a restless soul. Travel is just in my blood. That and a lot of alcohol. Lol 🍻
I was going to go camping to visit a national park. I was surprised at how much it cost to pitch a tent in a campground. Not a heck of a lot less than a hotel. Your food bill is enlightening, and makes me want to check mine at home. Lol. Keeping the bikes maintained is a consideration. If you have the money, it makes it more difficult to cut costs. Is there really any reason to?
Never had a problem with a warranty claim and drag a wagon 70% of the time. If you pull a trailer or pull wheelies, which do you thing is harder on the bike? The drive train is designed to handle the power the engine develops if you are not abusive in the application.
@@LoBeau53 I agree but it is stated in the owner's manual the warranty is void for pulling trailers. I have pulled a trailer for 10 years now and never had an issue with the powertrain because the trailer
Living like you're on vacation is a big mistake alot of people make when new to the nomad lifestyle. I also saw this when I lived in Las Vegas - people moved there TO LIVE & acted like tourists & went bust.
That's not bad actually, I figure once we sell our house and down size this Spring we should be ok. Me being retired now and the wife retiring this Spring. What we will get from retirement, plus our SMALL nest egg it should be doable. You guys stay safe out there. Oh I will check into the extended warranty on the HD . Its a 2014.
Yep you can get an extended warranty with that bike. We put a warranty on a 2009 tri Glide. I think the insurance companies just wanted the miles to be under a certain number
When it comes to food, I try to do my groceries in bigger towns and at price-value stores. Grocery shopping for minimalistic eating can get expensive and it really makes a difference.
Wow... I bike camp... your food expenses are 80& of my income...I usually spend $300 a month at most. Not judging just different opinions.?. I make $1150 a month... I sleep and eat ok... ride the bike every 3 days... we're all different but lovet the full time riding life... btw.. I am 67 and riding 55 years... enjoyed the vid
Wow, six months, great job. Could spend years bicycle touring, but a few months on the moto would be enough for me. Scooter tramp reckons around nine months was the make or break point for most, so hang in there. Thought you guys would be down south at the slab :) or even Mexico in the warmth by now.
Comment about “spending too much are funny.” This isn’t a minimal sustenance budget experiment, it’s about the freedom of enjoying two wheels across the open lands & turning off the daily grind. If people wrote down their monthly avg spend for minimal living, they would be suprised how quick they get to $20K annually w/ basic living. At your spend a modest 401K or IRA would get you well past 20 years plus, moral is work hard, save & you have the option. You could live in an studio apartment in a bad city for less, but is that living? Be safe & enjoy, don’t worry about the $ of you have it, ruins the point of being free
Living easy ain’t free! I love your lifestyle I was about to jump into that til ya know the restrictions came into play. Thanks for the budget tip will check Dave out!!!! Don’t scrimp ...you are right we need to have the stuff we need to keep us happy!!!! Stay safe!!!
Thanks for the video! I'm looking at getting a tent to live in for the summer or possibly longer if things go as planned. I would love to get a tent this size that would allow me to stand up inside. I worry about it's stability in the wind. Have you been in high winds in this tent?
How much are the payments on the bikes as that also is very important for a expense account or what you think a realistic number would be to keep them replace as the do become money pits and most importantly are you gonna get to where you going per month
In Texas we went through an awesome insurance agent who helped us with getting insurance through the Affordable Healthcare - granted it's not the best insurance. High deductible.
I was wondering the same thing. I'm working and paying $1,000 a month just for my wife through work.Mine is free, but we have to have a family plan. It's really good insurance but it should be for what it costs. I'm a 64 year old teacher, waiting to go half time in our 5th wheel. In a year. Food costs so much anymore drives me crazy, it's really expensive when you try to eat right with fresh fruits and vegetables. Nice video thanks for sharing your expenses.
Thank you for this! I want to do this with my animals sometime in the future (I am having surgery soon so I'm probably going to have to wait until then) and I want to know as much as possible before I go for it.
When you turn 65 get Federal Park pass for inexpensive camping, also some Federal Camp grounds are operated by contract companies. You may stay for free is you work at the camp grounds during your stay. Federal government is cutting back on camping on public lands due to people who will not clean up as they go. If you are ok with what you spend than I am happy for your adventure. I spend about 500.00 for cross country. Europe is higher, but I like their camp grounds.

Thats Awesome This kind of comments gives us inspiration also.
We will be Boondocking more in the coming months.
You are living my dream, hopefully we do it in the near future
Great video.
Yes it's a lot for some people, we though that it would be more. We live in California and this cost doesn't cover our mortgage . So if we get rid of out home and hit the road, we would live like royalty lol. Question...Are your bikes paid off?
Although we travel long distances, the longest we've been out is 84 days and we do a lot of camping. However, we budget for hotels only, so when we get camp, its a major saving for us.
This budget is for 2 people so it is pretty accurate for you guys. yes the bikes and trailer are paid off and the boondock camping is a huge savings
This was an informative, well thought out video. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Sounds like you've thought this all out very well and wishing you the best of luck - enjoy the adventure.
Thanks for sharing the breakdown.
Lol
I don't even sleep in a Tent most the time.
I just sleep on the grass under a Tarp.
Sometimes I don't even use a Tarp.
But hey, that's just me.
Great Video Guys!
Cheers! 🍻
Thanks this video was two peoples budget I sure we could have save some here and there but we moved a lot. cheers to you also
@@TwoWheelsBigLife OH I know it's for two.
Lol 🍻
God bless ya'll. I couldn't do it.
Honest and insightful, thanks for sharing. Really felt like a friend telling you the good and the bad without self aggrandizing
I am shocked the honor the warranty on the Harley since you pull a trailer.
I Know 🤔🤔🤣🤣
Never had a problem with a warranty claim and drag a wagon 70% of the time.
Good update. Interesting. Winter plans?
Into the southwest
How many times has your beemer been in for repairs? As many as the HD🤣👍
No only oil changes and tires for the BMW. 🤔🤔
Living like you're on vacation is a big mistake alot of people make when new to the nomad lifestyle. I also saw this when I lived in Las Vegas - people moved there TO LIVE & acted like tourists & went bust.
Great video; thanks for the money breakdown and suggestions
Be safe
New sub here. I came here on recommendation from KYD. Thanks for the video.
Awesome! Thank you!
Interesting and good video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
That's not bad actually, I figure once we sell our house and down size this Spring we should be ok. Me being retired now and the wife retiring this Spring. What we will get from retirement, plus our SMALL nest egg it should be doable. You guys stay safe out there. Oh I will check into the extended warranty on the HD . Its a 2014.
Considering 2 people and 6mo on the road. I'm sure an RV would change that if you're not boondocking a lot.
@@TwoWheelsBigLife RV life would be fantastic, But unless I hit the Lotto I will have to stick with the 2 wheels approach. LOL
Yep you can get an extended warranty with that bike. We put a warranty on a 2009 tri Glide. I think the insurance companies just wanted the miles to be under a certain number
Great information. Your cost and comfort level works out for you. How much did it cost when you had the house?
Double with the house. It’s was 2500sqft and had a pool. And property taxes are high in TX.
Thanks Chris, have you and Richard talked about how long you would like to do this. Also what are your plans for 2021? Cheers and be safe
we plan on doing this as long as we are physically possible. as for this spring and summer. I can't tell now but we have a plan. Stay tuned.
Brilliant
When it comes to food, I try to do my groceries in bigger towns and at price-value stores. Grocery shopping for minimalistic eating can get expensive and it really makes a difference.
Yes try but sometimes we are in small towns. Thanks for watching cheers.
OK, now that it's almost December, how is the tent camping working? Curious minds want to know.
Follow the butter! When the butter gets hard, head south. When the butter is runny, head north.
Awesome! My budget for one person is 1,300.00 per month
that was as awesome informative video thanks
Glad you liked it!
Yes there is I was on the road a year I seen it
Got to consider the depreciation on the bike. It is considerable.
That was very interesting thanks for sharing ride safe
Glad you enjoyed it
Man, you got me beat! I'm only 66 and riding 54 years! Ride on!
@@bobberguy1 One year behind ya on both!!! :)
Good budget
Thank you Chris. Good ideas on budgeting. Dave Ramsey is one of my favorites. Enjoy following you & Richard. Ride safe, keep your head on a swivel.
The Ramsey plan is one of the best. I recently finished off bs2.
Thank you! Will do!
Enjoyed. Be safe
Great Job very much appreciated.
do you use the hotspot to upload vids? just curious how that works out
Yes we do and it can be challenging for sure
Wow, six months, great job. Could spend years bicycle touring, but a few months on the moto would be enough for me. Scooter tramp reckons around nine months was the make or break point for most, so hang in there. Thought you guys would be down south at the slab :) or even Mexico in the warmth by now.
Right on! We are in the Southwest for now.
Thank you for the information. Enjoy your lives and time together. Stay safe. ♥️😉
This looks like so much work! No matter the cost. No to mention the time video taping. How long till burnout? I enjoy your efforts.
If you are enjoying what you're doing you won't get burned out
Excellent vid ! Ride On!!!
Thanks! 👍
Thanks Mike! So true.
Most of these people are spending all they make and then just increasing debt on top of that. They have no idea what their life is costing them.
You are correct. Some people "need" a Ferrari while others are happy with a Kia.
@@bobberguy1 Or a Vespa haha
You got this!
Good info, great job, wish you both the best.
Have you considered a small camper trailer like Time Out Deluxe instead of a tent, would help on your snowed in days?
Interesting details of your life❤️
Glad you liked it
What mail forwarding service did you use?
Did you guys ever look into Harvest Host?
Wow, that's a lot to spend a month. Have fun and be safe.
Not really for the experiences they get to enjoy like she said they do have some luxuries they enjoy while traveling.
Thanks for the video! I'm looking at getting a tent to live in for the summer or possibly longer if things go as planned. I would love to get a tent this size that would allow me to stand up inside. I worry about it's stability in the wind. Have you been in high winds in this tent?
Not as high winds as the pop up I make sure it tied down on every spot. It will do good in under 40mph wind.
How much are the payments on the bikes as that also is very important for a expense account or what you think a realistic number would be to keep them replace as the do become money pits and most importantly are you gonna get to where you going per month
No payments on our end
How do you get health care so cheaply? Love the channel too. Thanks in advance. Jayman...
Like to know that also. They must have the highest co-pay
@@billcummins9579 wow $1000.00 a month, when I hear this am always glad am Canadian. Keep safe
I think your video is fantastic
Thanks, Charles! 😁😁
What mail forwarding service do u use
A service called ipostal they use independent mail box businesses
Thank you for this! I want to do this with my animals sometime in the future (I am having surgery soon so I'm probably going to have to wait until then) and I want to know as much as possible before I go for it.
What do you do on heavy rainy days ?
Pray for a sunny weather ❗️
Great stuff 😀
Thanks 😁
When you turn 65 get Federal Park pass for inexpensive camping, also some Federal Camp grounds are operated by contract companies. You may stay for free is you work at the camp grounds during your stay. Federal government is cutting back on camping on public lands due to people who will not clean up as they go. If you are ok with what you spend than I am happy for your adventure. I spend about 500.00 for cross country. Europe is higher, but I like their camp grounds.
Enjoy your life, money spent really doesn't matter.
Or as I like to call money, Fun Credits 💸💰🤑
And can you live or rent tent spot year around
I don’t know about all year but there is LTVA areas for $180 a year you can stay in one place for 7 months.
Great video great information great places you guys got some expensive great bikes I assume they're paid for none of my business but wow very nice bikes sorry about the Harley problem the guys are incredible doing what you're doing a lot of couples out there at your age or not healthy enough to do these type things thank the Lord for John Graham Cincinnati Ohio.
