- Sorry for the delay since the last episode! In part 19, I face the Celestial Emissary, finally explore more of the lecture building and take a peek in the Nightmare of Mensis... but mostly it's a Ebrietas death montage.
Thank you so much for watching!

*whoosh* the sound of my ability to play bloodborne leaving my body
also i forgor you can just buy bolt paper with blood echoes i am full of regret
You're doing fine. My first playthrough was a nightmare. Just keep practicing. It's all good!
The deep sea rune helps massively when dealing with enemies that cause frenzy. After several play throughs of the game, I always customize my caryll runes based on what area I'm going to next. Another great episode! Cheers!
ohh good tip, thank you!
You're going to love this. You need to go back to Cainhurst. You gave away the summons. Now you need to go back to the throne room to see what happens next.
OMGGGG
1:27:52 I don't think I've ever heard this dialog from the Doll. That is so cool.
Great content as always Holly! I must say that your way of exploring the Nightmare of Mensis is most unique (I also went right to the second lamp on my first run xD). Regarding the leveling, I don't think your are over-leveled but try to stay around your 70s otherwise maybe the levels will be too easy (not the bosses). Having said that, a couple of pointers: 1. You may want yo check the gems on your weapons, as they are an important part of the damage mechanism. As you are leveling strength try to use gems that maximize that stat on your cleaver and holy blade (can be tricky to realize at the beginning, take your time to try different combinations); 2. Nightmare of Mensis: If you kill the silver beast (white-hairy guys) with a visceral or with fire (paper for instance) , they don't spawn the worms; 3. Ebrietas: Can be tricky, don't give up, that's all I have... just kidding, use your best weapon and keep mid distance if you are in front of her or just go to the side/back, punish her headbutts with charge attacks when possible (her head is her weakest part), at some point she will be open for a visceral, try to take it; the charge can be tricky to avoid, you are doing good keeping behind her, if you feel that you are going to be hit by it, just take it head-on and heal (the damage is greater if you try to dodge and fail as she will hit you with her body AND her tentacles); on her last phase she gains an aura that does damage over time, time to finish her ASAP, while she is down focusing (before gaining the aura, around 30% HP), apply bolt and do a charge attack to her head, and just continue healing and attacking to her side/back, if she use the lasers, round in a big circle around her.
You can definitely go through the spider place and continue towards higher places on Mensis, or start the DLC, you can maybe even switch between the three paths, Mensis, DLC and deeper Chalices, up to you :). If you start the DLC, I believe you will not have much trouble with the levels themselves, but be patient with the bosses... good luck and happy hunting!
ooo thanks so much for all the tips!! 😊 i’ll try to keep them in mind, hopefully i can get ebrietas next time. and yeah i really did choose an interesting way to explore the nightmare of mensis, i will get those damn spiders next time too 😂 have a good week & thanks for watching!
Insight does three things: you see more stuff, you can summon, and you shift your stats for beasthood and frenzy. It doesn't make the game harder in general, and it doesn't make you take more damage, except for frenzy.
Mergo's Loft is the last "level." There are two bosses to fight there. So you can fight one or both before the very end, which is different depending on a choice you make and whether you have the three thirds cords. So, to be clear, you can finish Mergo's Loft and still do the DLC. You just can't finish the part after that and do the DLC on the same game.
Do you know how to get to the DLC? Go back to Cathedral Ward, leave the chapel with the weird little man (the super scary but really just very nice one) that is on the floor. Go out the door on the left, and go to the right of the stairs that are straight ahead. There's an old tree near the fence. Stand there and an invisible amygdala will pick you up and transport you to the DLC.
For Ebrietas, to cheese her, stand behind her, between her tentacle feety thingies and giver her backside hell. It helps if you summon help. Just use whatever your strongest weapon is. If you want to feel like you legit beat her, the intended way, target her head with your strongest attack and do your best to stagger her. She exposes her head after her ram attack and head smash. During both phases, bait these attacks from far away and quickstep and attack before she lifts her head. Charged thrusts with the Holy Blade (R2) are ideal. Bolt paper will give a small increase to damage. Flame sprayer with Bone Marrow Ash can inflict high damage and instantly stagger Ebrietas.
The cords: You got one from the workshop. You got another from idk where, probably Iosefka? If that doesn't sound familiar, go back to the clinic and confront her. There is another you get from the top of Mergo's loft. And there's actually a fourth that you can get if you saved Arianna, but I don't think you did. So basically, just keep playing and you'll get the last third cord. You need to consume them, if you are going to go that route.
Lastly, In the Nightmare, outside of Mergo's loft, you keep getting stabbed by those blood spear things and don't know what is happening. If you look up at the top of the loft, there's an old one that looks like it's all eyes, like a beholder or something. That's what is stabbing you. Hide behind cover so it cannot see you and you'll stop getting stabbed. There are a decent amount of bloodshard chunks out there, if you want to level your weapon. They won't kill you so quickly if you aren't getting stabbed and driven to frenzy. You can eventually kill the old one, if you want. He's not a boss. Or she. Who am I to presume gender for a cosmic being? There's a secret after you kill it, you'll need to equip the Contact emote to get it. Also, after you kill it, there's the one and only (in the main game) Blood Rock that will let you level your weapon of choice to level 10. So look for that.
And now you know ALL the things.
omg thank you, many juicy gems of knowledge here
@@HollyElsa Yeah, anytime you need an entire book of rambling, I am your go to.
Oh, if and when you go for the Orphan, it really did a number on me. I watched videos on how to cheese it and how to interrupt with the gun so that I could get my visceral attacks in. Holly, I spent like three days and probably twelve hours of doing nothing but that fight.
My best advice is to go in and learn to dodge. Just stay alive as long as you can and just dodge (into) his attacks.
Then fight him until the second phase. Then just dodge. Learn how to evade and how he will attack. Once you can stay alive for five seconds, then worry about attacking.
But you did better on pretty much every boss than I did (except for Ebrietas) so maybe you'll knock him out on your first go. Best of luck either way!
Hooollllllyyy! Killer haircut. :^)
230 blood vials. "Not gonna run out now!" (me laughing nervously) 🤭
Now that you've given Alfred the invitation to Cainhurst, maybe see if you can find him there?
I guess you never realized you had to hit one specific blue guy in the Celestail Emmisary fight to get the health bar down...the others just keep spawning.
I played BB three time back to back before I said "OK, I need to play something else". I think I've done 5 playthroughs of it total and made many other characters. It's...a problem.
OMG, Returnal is amazing! Played the hell out of that game. Favorite game I played last year.
When you notice things going up in flames you'll know you're right before the end and can start the DLC.
You can leave Ebrietas, she's optional anyway. Or...better luck next time? 😬
thank you!! haha i cant believe i used all those vials… the hubris got me again. 😅
omg a fellow returnal enjoyer!! i’m loving it so much but man it’s HARD. i suck at shooters 😂 but agreed, it’s amazing!
rest assured i WILL be killing ebrietas!! hopefully… after i to back to cainhurst for the millionth time 😅 but thanks for watching, see ya next time :)
@Holly Elsa It took me *gulp* 168 hours to roll credits on Returnal. I quit twice but it kept pulling me back in. The atmosphere, music, backstop, gameplay...
@@zacharronwowww, i think i’m on track for a similar about of time tbh 😂
@@HollyElsa I just couldn't get a handle on it. Other people saying they finished it in 15-20 hours. HOW??!!
@@zacharronanyone who says they finished it that fast is lying and i will not be convinced otherwise
That Celestial Emissary boss very cool, great design. The little minions we’re kinda creepy.. Hah, enjoying watch all these boss fight’s too. I think starting the DLC later would be fine, enjoyed the Episode! 🤗
it was such a nice change to have a slower paced boss haha 😅 thank you!
Your welcome! 🤗
Good work figuring out overhead attacks for ebrietas. You can do a two hit combo with the axe if you hit r2, then r2, and she'll do two overhead attacks in a row. With the holy blade, in it's big form, you can press L2 to do overhead strikes.
oh nice, gotta try that
At the beginning of the video you asked who you are hunting on behalf of:
At the start of the game, you were from a foreign land and came to Yarnham to get some of that sweet healing blood. You signed a contract with a blood minister, let's call him Dave. After you get the blood, you have a wild fever dream with the little ones popping out of the floor and stopping a werewolf thing from killing you. That was maybe the only time you were in the "real" world. After that, you are in this eternal nightmare, fighting beasts.
So, my theory, to answer your question, is that you are hunting for yourself, to escape the endless night. You have to transcend the nightmare to be like Scott Bakula from Quantum Leap and find a way home. But you would have signed with the Healing Church, who would have had the blood ministers to sign a contract with in the first place.
Why is there a hunter's dream and why is the night this endless fight with beasts? Idk. Reasons.
Nice hair, btw.
woah the start of the game was so long ago i honestly forgot about that haha. trippy stuff. and thank you!
That's nested dreams. Like in the movie "Inception". You are dreaming while dreaming.
Another amazing part!! Missed this series:) also did you get a haircut?? You look so pretty, I love your hair!
aww thanks so much :)
Love your new cut 💇♀️
thank you!
When fighting Ebrietas, try the Saw Cleaver in its extendend form, which has up and down swings -- perfect for attacking her head and tentacles. Use R2 in that mode as well. Also, practice going back and forth between R1 and L1 with the Saw Cleaver; it gives you transformed attacks for bonus damage. And of course, when using Ludwigs Holy Blade, stab her with it. When I first beat Ebrietas, I used the Hunter Axe "spin to win" while staying behind her. Bolt Paper is best against her, but if you can't afford it Fire Paper comes very close, and it is way cheaper.
As for Nightmare of Mensis, start from the first lamp you found. It's much shorter to get to the bridge from there. Make sure to use Fire Paper when fighting those Loran Silverbeasts. Fire prevents spawning larvae when killing Silverbeasts. I agree that running past them is a good idea. As for the spiders, just run past them as well. Only turn back to fight them when necessary.
You're not overleveled. Pick a levvel you feel comfortable at considering where you are. Use any Eye Runes you have when farming for Blood Echoes.
Almost all enemies in the game are weakest to fire -- not just beasts, but Brainsuckers and Celestial Emissaries as well. Ebrietas, Rom, and Children of Rom are exceptions, though. There are other exceptions, too, but fire is useful against most enemies.
I'm loving your playthorugh as always. Hang in there. 👌
ooo all of this is very useful to know, ty 👌 guess i will be buying a shit ton of fire and bolt paper to exact my revenge on ebrietas/the spiders.
thanks bud! hope you have a good week
Love the series.
But for the lore you need to start asking the real questions:
What the small creatures at the door of the orphanage came from?
Are all humans beast? Are all the beasts human? What about Jason?
Why no other hunter comes to the dream?
Are Gherman and the Doll truly on your side?
MUCH to think about!!
AHHH short hair looks great on you
Also im pretty sure that when you fortify your weapon it repairs it aswell so you dont have to spend those echoes repairing it
ahh thank you 😊
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to just run past Yar Ha Goul and The nightmare at mensis. I've never seen anybody actually fight enemies In those places.
There’s a way to beat ebrietas a bit easy, try to stay between her two tails, she doesn’t heal but she makes passive damage on the second phase when bell rings, if I’m not mistaken that attack damages her too, so could run away and wait. Nightmare of mensis is indeed a nightmare and prepare for what’s coming. The dlc is better to do right before endgame, you’ll know when, but do it on a new game plus, it gets way too hard
haha time for levelling methinks
Reminder: Kin do not like pokey, stabby, or lighting attacks. Beasts do not like slashing, serrated, or burning attacks.
Too much insight will cause you to take more damage. It literally makes the game harder. And you will frenzy faster. Lose the insight before you run into the winter lanterns (off-key singing, head is a bunch of eyeballs).
OK, after this point I wrote a novel, sorry about that.
Bloodtinge and Arcane aren't worthless, but your build is based on strength and you'd need a serious investment to make switching worth it. It's not impossible. Remember the cummm dungeon I commented about last video if you want to consider that. Arcane makes the game stupid easy, it is just hard to get to the point where the scales tip.
Totally off topic, but I played Bloodborne in 2015, I think, and quit when I got to Rom. It was too hard. I watched your first video and got inspired. I started it back up and have played it almost exclusively since your first video. I went on to get the platinum trophy, so I have managed to do it all, but despite whatever difficulties you might have, you are doing way better than my first run. Or maybe even my second run. I've tried all the builds now and Strength (your current build) I found to be the hardest way to get through the game. It requires the most skill and patience. The other builds offer so much more versatility and opportunities to improve your damage output. And yet, you are killing it. So great job! I tried a few strength based weapons and the Holy Blade is definitely the way to go.
To reiterate what you said, ignore arcane and bloodtinge. Endurance is high enough, but, for the record, governs how much stamina you have and how poison resistant you are. Vitality scales well up to 99. Strength gives diminishing returns after 25 and really drops off after 50.
thank you for the novel haha!! yeah i am definitely going to go to the cummm dungeon this time. and i’m honoured to have inspired you to continue playing bloodborne! i love how much you were able to do on it while i’m still on my first playthrough haha 😅 i honestly can’t wait to replay and try other builds
@@HollyElsa Well, I'm not running a channel and spread out across multiple games. I play one game at a time and stick with it until I've done everything. But you really are doing great. Especially considering you play for like two hours a month. I gave up for like almost seven years and you just went and did the thing. As for the main game, you are pretty close to done. You can probably knock it out in two videos, if you just do that. Must be nice to have like talent or whatever. 😅
there’s a whole lot more hours for me if you include the unholy amount of time ive spent farming haha
@@HollyElsa Fair enough. You put in the work and you're at the endgame. Good on you.
Oh, at the risk of burying you in yet another tip - remember the sort of monster men (Beast Patients) in Old Yarnham? They hate when you are holding a torch. It totally trivializes that entire area. #ThingsYouWishYouKnewBefore
I only bring that up now because they show up in the first area of the DLC. If you want them to be less aggressive, carry the torch and they hold their arms up and shy away from you. That'll give you some breathing room because the DLC is no joke. It makes the main game look simple in comparison. I guess they have PTSD from when the Hunters torched Old Yarnham.
GG, no notes.
hehe thanks for watching
