      The speakers in the LR are FAR superior to the RWD version - it's absolutely amazing!!
      Stalks don't make any difference - you soon get used to it - as Elon says, the best part is no part
      I love the Highland, but waiting for maybe Juniper but definitely the Model 2

      @@tdtesla thanks for the comment. I think it really depends on where you live in the world. I think if you live in the USA honestly, the indicators are not a problem at all as most driving is straight and then just a left or right turn. however, in European countries like the UKUK, we have so many small and mini roundabouts linked together that the target is always moving and the buttons then change orientation from left right to side-by-side to upside down so it is a bit more tricky here.

      @@MBrownAnd it's not just roundabouts. Many roads, in many countries, are curved, so the wheel is turned when you have to indicate into another road. The US must have most of its roads in grid patterns.

    Great video Mark, really enjoyed it! Totally with you re. the stalks, I think it's a huge backward step. I was holding off buying a M3 until the refreshed model came out, and now that it has, I'm afraid the lack of stalks is a deal breaker. I'm so disappointed because it's such a beautiful car. I guess my choices are either wait for a retrofit to become available (apparently there's a company already working on this) or go with the current Model Y. But great video! 🙂

    Yes, the indicators on the steering wheel for me is a dealbreaker, I just can’t understand how people say you’ll get used to them because it’s physically completely impossible to use them safely as far as I’m concerned. You either don’t indicate or take your eyes off the road and fumble around for the buttons half way around a roundabout, both situations putting pedestrians and cyclists in particular at risk.

    i test drove this for an hour and went around several roundabouts. it's a slight annoyance sure, but if you cross your right hand over the wheel and grab it where the indicators are before beginning the turn, then just pull the wheel into position, your hand is already where it needs to be to indicate out, and it become second nature. knowing which button to press is also easy too - as with a stalk, the correct button is always going to be the one corresponding to the direction you're about to turn the wheel. in the end i felt that the buttons are superior for 99% of driving situations, with that 1% being right turns at roundabouts.

    • @wensiangfong
      @wensiangfong 7 месяцев назад

      the problem is most people don't wanna accept new thing and not willing to try. People like to stick to whatever they are familiar with. It is not that hard to adapt, i been driving it for a month+ i feel it is easier and more comfortable.

    • @MBrown
      @MBrown  7 месяцев назад

      Hey, thanks for the comment, but that’s not the case here when we have a roundabout as the steering wheel turns up the buttons are no longer right is up and left us down at the top right is right and left is left and then when the wheel turns upside down, they actually reverse the placement, so it’s it’s quite hard to work out where they are and obviously each roundabout is different in size, so the buttons can be completely different place every time

I think is just like the lack of physical buttons for HVAC controls. Yes, you can get used to them, but is it an improvement? No. Will we have to put up with it so that car companies can eek out more profit because there are less parts? yes.

      You don't need to initiate a turn single for a roundabout it's right of way. No need to let people know which exit you're taking. 😂 also in the states you're required to turn the signal on 100 feet before the turn so there shouldn't be an issue with the signals on the wheel.

    I own a 2021 Model 3, and I am so glad mine has a proper turn signal and stalk for gear selection. What a horrible idea to remove that and replace it with a button. People forget to use their turn signals enough already, which causes many accidents. Changing the functionality will make this problem even worse. The reason auto designers went with the stalk is because it is ALWAYS IN THE SAME PLACE. That's important. Horrid idea by Tesla to remove the turn signal stalk. +1 for the blind spot lights, -5 for the turn signal.

    Hi Mark, I too agree with you about the indicator stalks. I have no problem with forward/reverse via screen. I suppose FSD would remove the problem, the car could do the indicating, but until then it is a menace on mini roundabouts. I don't think it is a deal breaker, a well known after market supplier intends to come out with add on indicator stalks using bluetooth via the OBD port. I think Tesla would be wise to at least offer it as a UK/EU retrofit option. It's almost a case of spoiling a nice ship for a ha'poth of tar!

    The no indictator stalks thing I believe is Tesla’s incremental move to steer by wire since moving your steering wheel all the way around will become unnecessary. But yes, I too prefer stalks myself.
    Also, the European market doesn’t need them any more than the US market needs them. We have tons of windy mountain roads, curvy freeway interchanges, and, believe it or not, roundabouts and traffic circles as well.

    • @MBrown
      @MBrown  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much for the comment, however I tend to disagree when you’re going round a mountain Road. You don’t generally need to indicate too often or if you do you’re only going left or right once. Here in the UK. We have sometimes multiple roundabouts link together, so you may need to indicate five or six times as the wheel is spinning and your travelling 30 to 40 mph, so as I say, it’s not a dealbreaker, it’s just not an improvement of how easy it was before

But if I didn't already have a Model 3, I'd seriously look at a used car instead of the Highland.

There is this situation where after i turn left then i need to turn right straight away into my house. As you say, the suspension, comfort and materials are way better than before. I tried the new Model 3 Highland once, and to be honest, I didn't think the lack of indicator stalks was an issue. Of course, in roundabouts its not optional, but the feeling without indicators stalks feels unique and modern (even if its not an improvement). I really liked the feeling. The lack of stalk is interesting. I can get used to it. But the real solution is simply what the cybertruck has. Steer by wire. So you will never have to do a full 360 on your wheel ever again. We are a 2 Tesla family, 3 and Y and I love them. However, even our 2021 3 and 22 Y have compromises. The indicators on the older versions are rubbish for the UK, yes you get used to them, but they should be intuitive after decades of development. The windscreen wipers are also a compromise, again you get used to them and the update that allowed you to alter the speed with the scrolling button on the steering wheel improved things, but not as good as just having them on the stalk. The speedo to the left, again you get used to them, but a compromise nonetheless.
    Now, rather than improve the indicators, they’ve made them worse! A previous comment mentioned them being dangerous and they are correct. The gears are another compromise, no matter how you look at it. Gears on the stalk is actually really good and allows quick changes from forward to reverse. We also lose the ease of having the cruise control and autopilot on the stalk, again needless change for the worse. Finally, the loss of parking sensors, that you get on a Dacia, is just ridiculous! I don’t think losing the rear ones are too much of an issue, except that rear camera gets dirty and blurry in the poor weather quite quickly, but the front ones? The front camera is useless as estimating how close you are to things, as it’s on your windscreen.
    My lease ends in December for the 3 and at the moment, I’m looking elsewhere. Might have to compromise on range and acceleration to get a car that makes driving safe and easy again.

    I’m not sure it is hardware 4 - the Sheffield Tesla Service Centre couldn’t confirm when I enquired

      @MBrown  7 месяцев назад

      Hey, yes this is something I haven’t got a full answer for someone at Tesla told me it was hardware for and then someone else told me it was hardware 3.5 and then another person told me it was four so I’m not completely sure which one it is ha ha 😆

    Great review Mark ! The car looks pretty and inside feels better too. I would think some of these features and modifications to also reflect in Model Y. So I am hanging tight when the new Model Y is available later this year.

    It's a dealbreaker for me, I have to have a turn signal arm and a speedometer, and people think it's smart, but it's only about saving, that's not why you buy a car

    I picked my new Model 3 up on Saturday and you soon get used to the indicators even on roundabouts and the gear change on the screen is simple. I want to get a boot mat and remember last year you promoting a particular brand. Mark could you please send me a link. Thanks Scott

    Great review Mark! If it came with stalks and USS, like my 2021 model 3, I'd be ordering it now. However it doesn't so I'm going to wait and see what happens and hopefully Tesla will make a U-turn on these changes.

      Hey, I agree with you, I think I would be the same if it was like my car but better in every area. It may be an upgrade for me. However I think I’m gonna wait for the next model. Y

    first of all a great review very well done Mark thank you. I have a 2022 Model Y my backup cameras are always affected by rain…how are the cameras on the new Model 3? Maybe the thought process for the indicators are to prove them out for the steer by wire technology which should reduce the amount you have to turn the steering wheel? I did drive in England so I can understand the problem you face with round a bouts using the indicators. I am excited about the improved ride we have such bumpy roads in the states ride is my biggest complaint with my model “Y” but not a deal breaker. I love the new red color cannot wait to see it in person. thanks again for all your reviews I enjoy your videos a lot plus I like riding along with you enjoying the scenery,

    • @MBrown
      @MBrown  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Kenny, yes, the rain still does affect it and unfortunately it didn’t rain much at all when I was testing the car so I couldn’t really see if it affected it any worse than our current models

    Did you find out what the speedometer looking button does? And how do you activate autopilot?

    • @MBrown
      @MBrown  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, that just is for auto pilot and cruise control so it captures the speed you’re at when you press it like a speed limiter

    Beautiful car. Plan to buy one. They could raise one button slightly to differentiate it from the other. Vision parking should improve in time.

    Also, which Model 3 did you drive lately. Maybe the models of 2018/19 had now sound damping but I can drive my current Model 3 (2022 Dec) at 100mph and it's dead quite. Every time I see a test video it comes over as if the Model 3 "Refreshed" 2022 model had bad road acoustics. It does not. It's perfectly quite. The damping on the 2024 "Refreshed" has changed making it softer over bumping roads but not as sporty. I tested the new Model to see if it was such a big refresh. It was in my opinion a down grade in some areas whilst improvement in other. For me the biggest down grade is that the car has lost it's sporty feeling. Steering now truly dead plus it's like a boat in the corners. Grandfather's sofa.

      Hi, so I’ve only tested my 2021 Long range and my friends 2022 model Y. They are both quite quiet cars but honestly the jump into this new one is quite significant. They say it’s about 30% quieter. When you add the new suspension as well it does feel to me like quite a big difference but I’ve never tried the 2023 car

    Regarding the indicators, I have an issue. I never can decide which button to press if I want to change the volume of music while I am turning. We in the uk have a lot of roundabouts. Musk probably is not aware of that.

    I never turn on my signals in a roundabout. Because even if there is a stock and you are turning you would have to take on hand to turn the signal which is not safe anyway.

    • @MBrown
      @MBrown  7 месяцев назад

      Well, when you use a steering wheel, your hand brushes past it, so you don’t really need to think about it too much.
      It’s illegal requirement here in the UK that you must indicate off roundabouts so it’s pretty important here

    How is it possible getting 248 miles from 100% while my current RWD used to gives me 273 miles for 100% battery, after two years this has dropped to 260 miles, I thought this new one has a longer range!
