  • The Howa Trekka 2 stainless rifle package in 308win represents a budget setup that is ideal for hunting in Australia. The rifle shot well with the Outback Ammo 165gr Gamekings and was comfortable to use.

Picked mine up last week, first firearm I have ever bought but have been shooting since I was a kid, bought mine with just a pic rail, added and red field revolution 3:9:40 scope with leupold steel rings which I installed myself without a level. Using outback ammo 168g match kings managed to shoot .8" easily after sighting in, would highly recommend this rifle if you are in Australia walking a long way in the bush to find pigs, thanks Ozzie for the review made my choice much easier for my first rifle!

1.5 MOA with factory hunting ammo out of that package would bring pigs and fallow deer down all day. Seems an ideal entry level hunting rifle, most hunting being well under 250m. Thanks for the review!

The Howa is great performer & the best for its price range, i own a 1500 + a CMC Mountaineer & swear by them. IMHO, the trigger is shockingly heavy & has no user friendly options to adjust, other then a gunsmith to modify it. The Nicko sterling was allways put onto guns such as .22s & airguns, hence the reason many are still around today, they have never been deemed a scope to put onto a hunting rifle. As you may know you can have the best gun, but its the worst performer with cheap optics, "when it counts". The ability to not hold centre & not shockproof from knocks, is the biggest downfall for cheap optics? Tasco comes to mind aswell? Very good review well done. :)

May I suggest the Crossman Air Rifle 12 shot .177. Reason being that fact that it is a semi automatic rifle. I thought that it would be nice to se semi auto that anyone can own here with a typical A&B license. It is based on the Ruger 10/22 platform.

Shooting to me in my life is more then a Hobby. Its part of me. I enjoy it and live for it. But when I buy firearms I enjoy them for what they are and what went into them to make them that way. A Howa I dont want. Its functional and does the job. But their is nothing in it I appreciate or I want to appreciate on it. Thats why I rather pay more for a manufacturer who makes the firearm for me to appreciate more

So looking at that first group after the barrel cooled it shot that particular load very well if indeed the first shot was the flyer (cold barrel). It does appear you're shooting very quickly and that #1 profile barrel will heat up fast. Try That load again and take your time. Willing to bet you'll get WAY better results.

In my experience, the nikko stirling scopes can wander around a bit with the bigger recoil rifles. To be fair to the rifle, perhaps you could use the same scope on each review.

    I got one of these.
Not happy with its accuracy even with hand loads. Disappointing considering how my other Howa shoots .5 and others I have shot, shoot well(1moa). But as a scrub gun it's Ok.
'Entry level' is not a term I like to hear, sounds too much like 'cheap shit', but in this case........
Update: I was recommended to try Hornady factory 165 SST, results where good, 4 shots for a .8 group. Happy with that.

I always find with a 1/10 twist anything under 165 grains doesn't shoot very accurately. I've got a Savage 10tr and with most 165-167 grain shoot moa or under. Hand loads I get .5 moa. Don't know the validity, but a guy at the range who competes a lot in long range matches says 1/10 will over spin anything lighter.

I don't understand. Were you in a big hurry? I thought you were trying to show how well the Howa 1500 can shoot! Why not take time to set up and get your groups on the target instead of just banging away? I'm disappointed. I don't have a clue if that is a good representation of what it can do. It's almost like you weren't even trying. I hope it can do better than that.

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  8 лет назад +1

+conor is p4p number 1 Depends on which 700 you get, I had a Remington 700 Police tactical and it was the worst rifle I ever owned, could not get it to group under about 4-5" @ 100 yards, a real Friday afternoon rifle so to speak, then I ended up with a new Remington Sendero in 300win and I easily shot 1000+ yards with it, very accurate rifle. So not all Remingtons are crap but I have seen a few now that have some quality control issues... so it depends on which model of 700 you're talking about. If it the entry level cheap 700s, then I think either that or the Howa would be pretty much on par as both are entry level in my view...

I'm telling yous, this is NOT the accuracy you should expect out of this rifle. Expect 1 MOA or better. Howa's really shoot. There was an issue here, the weather and/or that particular rifle wasn't up to scratch. I have 3 howa 1500s. 223, 308, and 6.5 Creedmoor, all guns shoot 3/4 moa with factory ammo. And the 6.5 shoots .350 of an inch with handloads. These rifles are UNBEATABLE for the price in regards to quality and accuracy. Granted, I do not have, and would never put a nikko sterling scope on any of my rifles. Cheap shit optics are the downfall of ANY rifle.

I'm from the States and have the Howa "target master" which is the 20" heavy barrel .308 in a Hogue stock with the Nikko Sterling 4-16 scope .Using Beck factory 308 match ammo in the 155 grain a-max I have never shot over 1/2 MOA from the bench (bipod front/bagged rear) at distances from 100 to 500 yards. My best at 600 which is the farthest distance we can shoot here was 5-9/16". My Scope has always tracked well when making changes and coming back to a setting. There are clearer scopes and some that don't obdurate the target but for the money I say they are damn fine scopes and I'm not sure I"d have done better with another scope.

Sorry mate, you can blame me for that, not ozzie as I wrote the track.

The track is not bad at all I guess it's my age. I'm a singer songwriter and some lite jazz and despise over drives and distorted guitars.

You would be better off with a higher quality 2nd hand rifle. Says the man with nothing but military rifles except his new lithgow crossover. Guess which one gave me grief.

    ブレイイザー、サワーのようなヨーロッパのライフルの様に。
