Zagreb is a great city , its just that Croatia has so many great places which you are about to discover so people just don't have time to visit them all, especially when they are trying to cram them into a European trip. Croatia requires a 3 week trip on its own to get a real feel for its beauty. Make sure you do not miss Plitvice.
I know I have commented before but like I've said, I just enjoy watching you guys so much because your content is amazing and you do a lot of places all the other travel bloggers haven't, (but should). But the most important thing for me is your "relateability", (if that's even a word). You both are such gorgeous people, both inside and out. Just by looking at your pics you would think,....oh the typical 'travel blogging couple' with all the 'modelesque-type-looks' trying to act like a normal couple living their life around the world while filming it all to portray what you'd think everyone would want to see. But in all actuality you are a very gorgeous couple but you're surprisingly so normal, down-to-Earth, relatible, and hilarious and travel to such under-rated destinations and make your content just so much fun to watch. I love your K.B.'s,(Knowlwdge Bombs), how Daneger always tries so hard to pronounce the local languages, (whether he gets it right or not it's always so amusing), and I actually really like his "story times" because they're not only entertaining but also informative. But my favorite thing is just watching you 2 banter back and forth, your horsing around, jokes, and all-around good time. I look forward to each new episode and it always brings a smile to my face and a brightness to my day. Again, keep up the wonderful work guys.
Oh Sherri... we don't even know where to start. We still have the smiles on our face from reading this comment like 10 times each. It might seem small to you taking the time to type this out, but we can't put into words how much it genuinely means to us - THANK YOU! One of the most thoughtful and kind comments we've ever had ❤️
Interesting how Stacey said Zagreb reminds her of Krakow, I was born in Zagreb and live in Zaprešić (we have a castle and tomb of ban Jelačić here) and when I visited Krakow I also thought it reminds me of Zagreb.

I went to agricultural school and one of my teachers said that we should always look for apple trees where some fruits had worms on them. He said that worms will never eat fruits which are heavily sprayed with pesticide and other toxic chemicals. Maybe it's the same with wasps on that market.
The teacher was right, that's true.Wasps, bees, worms ... will not eat fruit that is treated with pesticides. And if it's not for them, then it's not good for us either.
Thank you on your video it is realy interesting and I enjoyed watching it. I am born and living in Zagreb and think your couple of videos are maybe the best videos about Zagreb , keep up with great videos . Cheers

It's awesome seeing Zagreb, with Phl Dole pineapple and the Zagreb cathedral similar to an all steel San Sebastian cathedral in Manila. That mini city map surely beat Google map!
I love you, guys! This must be love, indeed, for some inexplicable reason... Again, you've included Zagreb among one of your' most favourite destinations. And this is funny... Just how many Zagreb's visitors actually discuss the 1880 earthquake? I believe - none. You practically and unintentionally made a perfect announcement for the 2020 earthquake, just 18 months ahead! Unbelievable.

Where are you going next, guys? 'Cause if you're considering the possibility to spend a few days on the border of Italy, Triest (between Slovenia and Venice), I have a suggestion. There will be a huge event which is the largest sailing regatta in the world, called Barcolana and it happens to be the 50th edition: the last and most important day will be on October 14. As I have no idea where are you going or what are you planning, I can just recommend it. Keep on vlogging, it's always amazing to see the world through your experiences! Thanks guys

Welcome to my city so what kind of host would i be not to give you some info about us, croatians, and about zagreb. In the sea of vlogers in zagreb this is the first time that i see someone is searching and reporting some interesting historical monuments and sites in the city so here i go... The main square is Ban Josip Jelacic and ban is like governer in commonwealth.... It is a title from the times we have lived in Persian empire... We are very very old people, like 6000y old. Stacey mentioned krakow... It use to be capital of white croatia because we founded it and its former name was hrvat. So from that times and during 1000y of Kingdom of Croatia ban ruled in some larger parts of croatia in the name of the king. I was present there when it was put back on its spot back in 1990.the statue... Zagreb is more than 1000y old but we celebrate its birthday from 1094 a.d. What you did not know is that every day the small bell rings from the cathedral in 2pm commemorating victory against ottoman turks 1573a.d Battle at Sisak and liberating the Croatia after 150y of war... So it does that for 500y now... At the stone gate on the back side of Sabor(Parliament) you will see chains between pillars... They are ancor chains of ship Bounty. At noon from 1.1.1899. Canon fire marks midday... So enough for now. Enjoy your stay and have fun in Zagreb...
Bees and wasps love sweet fruits. That's the kind you should buy. If they avoid some, you should too. I grow fruits. Bees and wasps are more than welcome. No, they will not sting anyone. They are busy doing their stuff...
Well I am from Zagreb and must say you speak our language pretty good. Zagreb is big and beautiful city. I would recommend to all of you who want to visit Zagreb the best time to go is winter... You must visit advent. Advent is like big long event for Christmas. It is AWESOME you can go ice skating, you can eat delicious food and drink wine, but for me the most beautiful things are city lights.
Well if you ever come to Zagreb again there are many fun things to do. You should visit museum of broken relationships,, illusion museum, Arena centar, Bundek, Jarun, go hiking on Sljeme, museum Mimara... And the best part is that all destinations are quite close.
The ''Ban'' form Ban Jelačić is read as ''bun'' in english :) also Medvedgrad pivnica. The C in pivnica is prounounced as TS not K :) I started watchin your vlogs bcz of you Croatian vlogs, but I can't wait to see more of them ! You are both lovely :D
Actually it is kinda good when flies are near the fruits, because that means they are all natural. If there is no flies, either the seller is doing an amazing job by keeping them away or they are not natural.
Also, fun fact, before the statue of Ban Josip Jelačić was removed it was turned in the direction of the Dolac marketplace. It was turned like that in defiance to the Hungarians. After it was returned back to its spot it was turned around by 180° Also, the cathedral was heavily damaged in the recent earthquake (5.3 by Richter scale). The tops of the two spires on the Zagreb cathedral aren't there anymore 😭
When you see wasps or bees on fruit like that you should be happy, as it means that fruit is full of natural fruit sugar, which make it delicious and tasty, and is non GMO, but natural fruit. So instead of disgusted looks you should actualy look forward to buying and eating it. :)
Dane and Stacey....I accualy love your vlog and I will keep watching ......all the way.....the thing is.....I am Croatian living abroad for 30 years.....now getting retired and going home,,,,shit honestly I dont know what to do or how to get back.....or what to do.....have properties money is not a problem....BUT WHAT TO DO=========that is the question.....dont know,,,please give me a insite..
Relatively small, which is common. But there is lots to walk around and parks to discover - theres lots to this city that you can find which keeps it more interesting.
No, half a million cannot fit into the square. These people were along the path the bus with the football players drove to the main square. Only some 100k or so were on the square. The Dolac market is *not* that old, it's built in 1930's or so, but sellers there are traditional. The spires of the cathedral are also not that old, the cathedral was rebuilt after the earthquake in the 19th ct the story about Ban Jelačić is quite complex, it was seen as anti-Hungarian symbol at the time, his horse was looking north, reminiscent of him leading Croatian army into Hungary in the revolutionary wars 1848...
Yes, and I got the idea to do so from the "Twins" of T.E.A - Way Away... ruclips.net/video/wyEA6iVrcwQ/видео.htmlm46s You can also put reindeer on pizza as a leaner alternative to beef... :)
When you are buying things at Dolac or some similar place follow the wasps because they know what is good. More wasps the better it is. A lot of people buy plastic shit from Spain, The same stuff you find in supermarkets and sell it there as if it is organic domestic stuff. There is actually only few stands that sell their own home grown food. And in Croatian you don`t read C as K. It is not pivnika it is pivnica, C as in word juicy, not juiky :)
Those are not flies, those are bees and wasps. The bees and the wasps only go to healthy, fresh fruit that was not sprayed with pesticides. So, if the bees and wasps eat it, it is healthy for us too.
hey man, I'm in Zagreb too! I live here part time, since my girlfriend is from here I try to stay as long as I can. How much longer are you in town? If you've got time I'd love to buy you guys a beer / coffee and maybe you could give me (total YT newbie) a couple tips? Would love to hear your story in any case :)
I'd also be happy to recommend some of my fave restaurants here (although Zagreb isn't exactly known for its cuisine - esp compared to other capital cities) I've found a few gems. Plus a couple other random spots that only a local would know (aka my girlfriend showed me lol)
there is a legend which says on that fountain called manduševac(by one girls name manduša) there was a well and one knight came to her and asked mandušo dušo zagrabi mi vode (which would be translated mandušo honey/darling grab me some water) and thats how manduševac got name from manduša and duša and zagreb got name from zagrabi
since you mentioned Largest building, Zagreb has one of largest apartment block in Europe. you can check it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamutica. awesome vlog!!!
Little knowledge bomb about Ban Jelačić. When the statue was first placed on the square it was pointing north towards Hungary because he was one of the bigger influencers of the anti-hungary movement.
The golden moments are never caught on tape ;) excellent vloging production. Clean, nice dictation, very easy to watch. Needs some minor editing skills but still though...Subscription earned :)
Yeah, you came to the market too late. You saw empty benches already. We do the shopping if we are going to plac that day early in the morning, you arrived at the end of it all when discarded vegetables and fruits are all over the place and the heat is at its peak. If you are shopping anywhere in local open markets like this, go early and you will have considerably less insects.
i just popped out of nowhere. great video. i'd just notice one thing: the marketplace (named Dolac (as in letter c, not k) ) is full of fresh food. there's a belief here in Croatia that when food is fresh and not GMO it attracts animals (flys, ants etc..) whereas GMO food doesn't. so basically the whole Dolac has organic, REAL organic food (saying REAL because there's also GMO 'organic' food).
A lot of people have said the same thing! Great to learn how fresh everything was, now we just have to work up the courage to pick up fruit that is completely covered in wasps! 😜
Ban Jelačić was a nobleman who stopped the Austro-Hungarian’s from invading Croatia. Naturally the Communist’s/Partisans/Yugoslavia’s were against anything that promoted Croatian national pride.

Warm temperature has brought lot of bees and wisp In all Europe. Cheer
Sounds like xmas is the perfect time to enjoy a white Christmas! We love the sun, but would be tempted to return for it.
Well if you ever come to Zagreb again there are many fun things to do. You should visit museum of broken relationships,, illusion museum, Arena centar, Bundek, Jarun, go hiking on Sljeme, museum Mimara... And the best part is that all destinations are quite close.
yes its soo beautiful
The ''Ban'' form Ban Jelačić is read as ''bun'' in english :) also Medvedgrad pivnica. The C in pivnica is prounounced as TS not K :) I started watchin your vlogs bcz of you Croatian vlogs, but I can't wait to see more of them ! You are both lovely :D
Thanks for the tips! We're constantly trying to get the names right but everything changes from one country to the next and we get tongue tied haha
Actually it is kinda good when flies are near the fruits, because that means they are all natural. If there is no flies, either the seller is doing an amazing job by keeping them away or they are not natural.
You pronounced ban Jelačić soooo good I can't believe. People always have problems with our leters (č, ć, đ, dž, ž, š...)😂😂
Soooo happy to hear that!! Definitely not the easiest for foreigners 😂
10:20 the clock is in the back ground behind the tree :D
Haha yeah took us 2 seconds to be like, oh, its there
Also, fun fact, before the statue of Ban Josip Jelačić was removed it was turned in the direction of the Dolac marketplace. It was turned like that in defiance to the Hungarians. After it was returned back to its spot it was turned around by 180°
Also, the cathedral was heavily damaged in the recent earthquake (5.3 by Richter scale). The tops of the two spires on the Zagreb cathedral aren't there anymore 😭
Zagreb the best 😘
7:42 I think every bigger city in Croatia has that (I know Split and Pula do)
Oh cool! More fake drone noises coming in soon then when we visit the other cities haha
@@DanegerAndStacey lol
Hey I am from Croatia, You spelled very well our language! Next time You should visit the city where I am from, Rovinj!
Thanks - we're constantly trying with the pronunciation!
Wasps go where fruit is tasty :)
...and natural (no gmo or chemicals)
We've never seen that, anywhere! Glad theyre wasps though and not flies.
They mostly like to fly around grapes.
When you see wasps or bees on fruit like that you should be happy, as it means that fruit is full of natural fruit sugar, which make it delicious and tasty, and is non GMO, but natural fruit. So instead of disgusted looks you should actualy look forward to buying and eating it. :)
Its hilarious how they were talking about that clock that stopped and couldnt find it,but it was right behind them on the wall
Figured that out about 2 seconds after standing up!
If there's no that bugs its not good and natural we say... greetings from croatia :)
We've learnt that now, good to know!
considering you speak english natively, the pronounciation is solid, but far from croatian :P
Hahahaha best response yet #wetried
4:10 It's bees :) Anyways great video
thanks
Do you guys get winter blizzards there?
I'm not actually sure - it's one of the most popular winter markets so possibly
Earthquake 2020 did huge damage to the old town. And the towers of the cathedral were demolished 😔
That's so sad :(
our produce is amazing and all the bugs around it actually are proof of its tastiness :) because its all home grown, fresh, natural
Awesome
❤️
Wasp around fruit is sign that it's pesticides free... Where is more wasps, there is fruit better.
How big is the old town/tourist spots compared to the rest of the modern city?
Relatively small, which is common. But there is lots to walk around and parks to discover - theres lots to this city that you can find which keeps it more interesting.
No, half a million cannot fit into the square. These people were along the path the bus with the football players drove to the main square. Only some 100k or so were on the square.
The Dolac market is *not* that old, it's built in 1930's or so, but sellers there are traditional.
The spires of the cathedral are also not that old, the cathedral was rebuilt after the earthquake in the 19th ct
the story about Ban Jelačić is quite complex, it was seen as anti-Hungarian symbol at the time, his horse was looking north, reminiscent of him leading Croatian army into Hungary in the revolutionary wars 1848...
You have to come in Zagreb at winter. It's the most beautiful advent spirit last three years in Europe. :)
We've been told about this, maybe next year we'll stay around longer!
Wasps really are a menace... :(
I Like going to markets to see the less known foods of the region (such as reindeer jerky in Finland)... :)
Reindeer jerky in Finland sounds interesting! Did you try it?
Yes, and I got the idea to do so from the "Twins" of T.E.A - Way Away... ruclips.net/video/wyEA6iVrcwQ/видео.htmlm46s
You can also put reindeer on pizza as a leaner alternative to beef... :)
Jelačić, not Jelačića.
The A is added as an 's in inglish [~Jelačić's Square~]
Bugger, over emphasis at the end! I tried.
We’ve since heard this, that’s positive then! It was the same in Slovenia over the weekend
It's actually more like in the word "tsunami".
Zagreb right after Greece or Turkey but I'll be on my way.
Nice clip
I was there 2 days ago
Those are not flies, those are bees and wasps. The bees and the wasps only go to healthy, fresh fruit that was not sprayed with pesticides. So, if the bees and wasps eat it, it is healthy for us too.
His na e is Josip ban jelačić! A'm from croatia
hey man, I'm in Zagreb too!
I live in Zgreb😘
The clock was behind you :)
Daneger., What did she give you at the wedding!!! WOW
We're confused...??
Too much fun, stay focused!!!
Aw, poor Stacey not being able to go in the cathedral. Well done following the rules!
Thank you! I would hate to be 'that' person you know!
Seeing flies and wasps means it is natural and not gmo and low on pesticides
Zagreb has alot of green spaces that is why there are wasps
Yup, we know :)
Who is from zagreb?
ja
Little knowledge bomb about Ban Jelačić. When the statue was first placed on the square it was pointing north towards Hungary because he was one of the bigger influencers of the anti-hungary movement.
10:30 its behind you :)
Haha yeah wish I didnt turn off the camera cos I was like "lets go find this clock..... oh, its right there."
Kraków rules!😉
Yup!!
So , you have to visit Kraków again and discover new places with local people😉
Stacey could have entered the church without any problem....the ban is on short skirts or short pants.
