    Great way to check and correct backlash in daytime. I think that this method is some kind of rough backlash compensation setting but is easier and you dont waste night time doing the backlash analisis. Kudos!!! And thanks. I will try this today

    This method seems like it would be adding backlash in the gears between the coarse and fine focus knobs too.

    So where do you initially get the Position and Target position numbers?

      You normally position the focus tube all the way in and then zero it in the software to for the initial setup. Then you can pick any arbitrary position as long as there's enough room to move in and out to check the backlash.

      @@_Astrovert During initial setup, how do you determine the max distance limit for the EAF so you don't hurt the EAF or your focuser? I knew my focus tube had a length of 42mm on the shaft so I extended to that, and used the current position as the max in the driver settings. Sound right?

      @@ScottCanoni Yes, that seems like it would work as long as the focus position number doesn't go negative when rolling it in as far as it will go. Ideally you'd want it at position zero when all the way in and at whatever the max number when all the way out.
