I am going to grow sweet potatoes this year! my slips are only about 4" tall right now and looking healthy! I got the bed prepped and the seaweed on standby! Thanks for the tips!
Love your easy instructions. Do I need to cover up the plants from deers. The deer are in my yard and garden area every night, plants that I have had for years such has roses and lilies they are now eating 😮
Hey! There's no telling unless it was labeled somehow. In the past, I've looked for sweet potatoes from local farms or farmer's markets. I figure if they've grown in my region that's good, but overall they're easy to grow in my opinion, and will adapt.
I planted slips in October-November 2022. I tried digging today to see if ready and nothing was there. Now I'm wondering what I may have done wrong. I have tons of leaves though
Depending on your location, it could be that they need warmer weather. I grow them through the summer in Texas. Did you fertilize them? They can benefit from supplemental phosphorus which promotes root development (sweet potatoes), but a fertilizer higher in nitrogen will encourage leaves. I hope that helps!
Great information, again. Keep it coming, Scott!
Thanks! 🤗💜
I have so many planted, have to work harder to feed them more. thanks

I would venture to say that deer would feast on sweet potato greens 😥
What seaweed powder do you recommend?
I use the Maxicrop brand 👍🏼
What kind of sweet potato do you get from the grocery store? I have planted one and it’s growing 😂 First time grower in Middle TN!

@@newgardenroad Thank you! We’ll see what happens, some roots started to grow so I planted them 😂🤞🏼🤞🏼

Sweet potatoes from seed? Possible? Hard? Do you get any tubers from the seeds?
The most common method is propagation from sprouted sweet potatoes and it’s very easy in my experience. I haven’t ever observed them produce seed.

@newgardenroad I live in very sunny South Florida. I've recently found flowers blooming so perhaps tubers have begun to grow underground
“Soak your Slips in Seaweed”
