Shanique, these are awesome tips that everyone needs to be reminded. I would like to include that if you are wearing your hair straight and find it difficult to avoid heat. I recommend an overnight hot oil treatment. I part my hair in 6 sections (4 sections are fine too) staring with a vertical part from the center of my hairline (right where my widow's peak is centered) to my nap, I then create 3 even sections on both sides of the part. Next, I make sure my hair is detangled and I lightly wet each section with a spray bottle and apply oil to each section. I generously apply the oil (Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Emu oil, Jamaican Castor are all great) to each section, but I make sure that the oil is dripping from the sections too. Once the oil is applied, I place each section into a Bantu Hair Know secured with a clip. Once all sections are knotted, I place a plastic two bag (for deep penetration and hydration) over my hair along with a bonnet or scarf over my hair. I also will place a towel over my pillows and sleep on it. You can allow your hair to absorb the oils during the day too but I would recommend at least 4 hours OR you can sit under a bonnet dryer on medium setting for heat and allow the hair to absorb the oil for an hour. I prefer the overnight or 4-hour setting. When it is done and I pull off the plastic bags from my hair the next morning, my hair has absorbed all that wonderful oil. My hair was loving me so much after 3 months once I began this routine. My AWESOME hair stylist said that I made her job SUPER easy because of how I take care of my hair.
I now will include clarifying my hair once a month or once every other 6 weeks as well.

Thank you for the good tips! I got the big chop 8/3/19 to start my natural journey. So far I’m loving my tight natural short curls and educating myself on natural hair care.

What you're talking about can be a soft form of trichotillomania. There are different levels in this disease and it's kind of normal if you can't stop touching your hair, it's mental. I personally have it but I don't just touch my hair every time. Whenever my hair is braided or twisted ( and only in those situations), I will pull them out for no reason, even without seeing I'm doing it. And when I think to not touch my head, it becomes so stressful, I look like a junkie in need 😅. But hopefully my case is not desperate and I have found some techniques to prevent that.

I twirl my hair at the nape, mine is related to anxiety. I didn’t realize it at first because I wasn’t conscious of the fact that I was doing it.

I love your ideas...I keep forgetting to us clay and have plenty at home. I’m sure my hair needs it badly because I have low porosity hair. The HIH (hand-in-hair) syndrome is real. I LOVE playing in my hair but I know it’s a big no no so I do it a lot less...to help even more I keep a snap cap on my hair as much as possible even when going out. Of course if I have a function or meeting to go to my hair is out again but I don’t play in it because I put it in a fancy style. Thank you for the video.

Trichotillomania or "hand to hair" is real. Can be a symptom of anxiety and/or need to tactile stimulation. A hand glheld device might be helpful, ie a spinner.

I have *hand in hair* syndrome but even worse *scissors in hair* syndrome due to two jacked up haircuts from supposed pros that lied in saying they knew how to cut curly hair!! It's totally turned me off to going to salons, and I'm learning how to better trim my hair but I keep trimming and trimming til I've cut more than I wanted lol!! I've hidden my scissors!!😄

Thank you so much for the tips and your hair looks amazing❤something i would like to add perhaps for our audience is diet.....check your diet. Are you eating a balanced diet???Vitamins, minerals, cabohydrates, protein and all that every single day. Also are you drinking enough water as per your weight and height???These are very important tips that we all leave out but come to think of it they are most important than anything else.
because we can do everything we want to to our hair on the outside but as long as your body is lacking a certain component....well,you can forget about having long and healthy hair at once.I used to assume this point untill i started to closely monitor my diet and drink lots of water then my skin, nails and hair changed.I was failing to ensure that my overall health is okay and focus on doing something to my hair. Now am maintaining more length faster and my hair health is on another level.Especially vegetables and fruits eat more of those and you'll be glad😇❤😍😍

Congrats momma! Welcome to motherhood. You look great! I still hate shrinkage tho, but it's good. I sometimes catch myself with my bonnet/scarf on my head 9 out of 10 times don't care where I go. Once you get to know your hair and have grown with your hair along the years, it gets easy to let your hair flourish with little effort and a minimum set of tools.

Also another point i would like to greatly emphasize on that i've learnt is to avoid using many products on your hair.Take a product from your shelf and read all those ingredients on the label especially for those products you dont wash out.I guess they are either above 7 ingredients.Imagine using another two products along with that one that you dont wash off.The amount of product that we will have on our hair will be beyond ordinary. To make it worse stay like for a whole month without cleansing your hair.It will just fall off and you'll always wonder why you are doing the right thing but lacking good results.
my advise is try using products that are 100percent natural. If you have to use a chemical based product then maybe use just one along with pure water and an all natural oil.If you cant and you have to use a tonne of products in your hair then try to clafify more often perhaps once a week with a shampoo or cowash or at most bi-weekly.
    i hope that helps too.

Oh when in use moisturizing conditioner my hair is dry the dry clean that almost squeaks😃 not everyone needs clarifying I'm a professional . i known this because not everyone does what everybody else does to their hair. 😁You can't give several different hair types the same recipe. Especially when the conditions of their hair due to them managing their own hair with what they buy for their hair . we all donot use the samething we all do not apply a lot of product in our hair. To need clarifying shampoo.

How often should I detangle? I normally detangle every 2 weeks on wash day. Do you suggest detangling more frequently?
