It actually took a bit for me to get used to the randomised classes, but by now I couldn't imagine a campaign without it. Individual soldiers have so much more of a personality when everyone is truly different, and it's only gotten better as we've moved into the late game. Huge props to the team for putting it all together.
Stukov recommended Amalgamation to me a little over a year ago. I was getting tired of always picking the same perks each level, so it was perfect timing.
Agreed. I wish odd does another campaign soon with this mod so that we can explore some of the untapped classes. Was watching marbozir do a run and the hotshot tree is OP.
1:28:00 EEEEEEEEEE, maybe someone who *isn't* Soul Merged to the most powerful soldier on the squad should run the overwatch gauntlet!!!! That was an especially clench-worthy moment right there.😱😱 Besides that and the Solo Run of Hard Luck, that was a really solid mission. This was definitely tougher than this mission type usually is (I think you're right about how Show of Force amped it up, so I wouldn't be so scared of these missions in the future), but you did a great job staying on top of the building chaos. Regarding Duchess' build, using Run and Gun does cancel Close Encounters' extra action on that turn (the full description for Close Encounters explains that). I think Unscarred was a good pickup, and probably more useful overall than Killer Instinct would be. Keeping Duchess at full hp should be possible more often than you think, especially since you've been running her with the Praetorian vest that gives auto-heals. Combined with Unscarred reducing the damage of that first hit by 3, the vest will probably be able to top her back up a lot of the time as long as she doesn't take multiple hits in one turn. For maximum eye-popping crit damage, though, make sure she gets Talon Rounds and possibly a Repeater.
Ya, that's essentially phantom damage (and doesn't get counted in the official tally). The way we handle the Skulljack and similar insta-kill mechanics like vanilla Repeaters is the soldier gets credit for damage equal to the target's remaining hp.
*On today's episode of XCOM: a stalker chases customers at the Grand Finale hotel; a riot priest enlists an army of volunteers to feed a hungry dog; and an unlucky intern runs from an uncontrolled crowd taking shots.*
Enjoying the current run. Interesting developments this episode. You may have missed an opportunity with your title. Consider an alternative: "A Run of Hard Luck" 🙂Do take some time to decompress from this mission! Happy new year!
Its so funny the difference between me and odd. If odd sees a 5 turn cd he wants to save it, whereas I wanna use it to get that cd ticking for max value lol
Well, that was definitely a cool episode. I think both the sitrep (show of force) and the mod/setting you enabled (to have a chance a pod contains an extra enemy) made the enemy count so big. Still, you managed to prevail. Some things to note: 1. Once the reinforcements started coming, you froze some enemies and hacked the drone -> its possible it would play better if you waited with the hack for a MEC to show up, drones are easier to kill and less scary. However its not guaranteed, as drone's stun could give you trouble as well. 2. If you decided to run the Overwatches with Duchess, you should disconnect the Soul merge first; otherwise you risked Caerbanogg's life as well (in case all overwatches hit in a truly XCOM fashion). I believe disconnecting is free and would make whole operation safer. 3. It was interesing, how the waves proved to be more troublesome than the Mechapede-Cyberdisk combo. 4. With that said, you might be able to kill Mechapedes in one turn with crazy damage from Caerbanogg and some of your damage dealers. In this mission Mechapede had a beneficial pod, as there were many enemies with it, they had high HP, and andromelidon concealed some, meaning they did not get hit with Ambush. On a normal mission, its possible caerbannog would strip Mechapede of its pod on the Ambush (or other squadmates would) and Mechapede on its own does not get those overwatches, which makes it a bit easier to deal with.
Please remember to release the Soul Merge when you're not actively using it. As hard as you thought you were clenching, you weren't clenching hard enough.
Goals for this year is two fold: hitting the gym hard with my daughter and politics wise getting out and really developing a community organization that can help people in addition to advocacy. Improve within and without.
Did this mission had everything or what??? Caerbennog, or Caerby as I like to call her, just Grand F'ing anything she could. Duchess bieng "clutchest" than ever (maybe that should be my affectionate name for her). But, then, theeeen, the end of the mission is just the craziest thing, if that wasn't the Hardest of Lucks, I don't know, man! Poor dude!!! Aaanyways, fan-boy silliness aside, many many thanks for each and every awesome moment this amazing series has provided and for how keeps on doing so!!! 😁
My recommendation with this mission type is always to stay bunched after rescue, to ensure everybody can evacuate in one turn. Regardless, this is always easier said than done.
That was my thought as well. Like you said, it's sometimes difficult to avoid spreading out while fighting the waves, but scattering everyone in all different directions virtually guarantees that *someone* will be too far from the evac to reach it in one turn.
O m g Hard Luck and Vegan both need to buy lotteries today. THAT WAS INSANE. I'm not even gonna mention the soul-merged overwatch gauntlet. I don't wanna perceive it.
*PERSONAL LOG #31 (Episode 124)* *Asa “Rapunzel” Brouwer* *After Operation River Altar* I am used to the songs in my head. I find it soothing to lose myself in the tranquility of it all. But ever since I stood in the wave of that… that THING. I keep hearing echoes that drown out my thoughts, even my music. They call it an Altar. The sound it made was madness. The pain it brought was beyond anything I ever felt. Even after being away from it for weeks, I still feel the sting under my skin. I still hear the echo as it tore away my soul. What was it? A robot? An alien? I have no idea, as all I remember was standing in the light and feeling… empty. It took away from me anything that makes me… me. It burned me under my skin and into my bones and yet, with no wounds to show, I know it is there… still. I am not afraid, because to give them that would be to fully surrender. I will keep fighting to my last breath. But with this pain I feel all the time, I fear it will not be long. You, who have found my journal. I hope you understand what happened to me. I hope you were able to stop this monster, even if I failed. Did I fail? Only you know if we beat Advent. Only you know who survived and who was lost to time. I wish I could hum away this pain. I wish I could sing about my thoughts, but all I hear is the hum of death. All I feel is empty. I wish that I could… see her one more time. I hope that when I died, I found her and we could smile and laugh about things. Maybe we could even try new things in the afterlife. Only I know that though, as that would be beyond my journal that you found. There have been more battles since my last entry, and yet I didn’t say anything about it. I have been trying to understand this hum. Trying to come to terms with what it means. In my head, it is always in my head. The hum… the whisper… the promise that there is no tomorrow… *END LOG*
I loved this episode. There was just the right level of drama and fear and wow, the tactics blew me away. I wish I was that good. Haha, thanks for keeping Rapunzel alive.
If that last Hard Luck sprint were in a work of TV or movie fiction, you'd need to use all the film bells and whistles to do it justice. Some slow motion, a sentimental and gentle-sounding track to juxtapose against the crazy charge to safety (I might go for something like Admiral Adama's theme from the re-imagined version of Battlestar Galactica), etc.
Happy new year Odd. Hope you and your family have a great year ahead. I’m not one for making resolutions but this year I think I’m going to focus on making a game. It’ll be all solo but it’s a long time dream and I think it’s about time I started on it.
Hope you keep an eye on Shift N' Slay. Looks like an interesting xcom like game with rogue like elements. Also Menace is one coming at the end of the year from the creators of Battle Brothers which also looks good
So final mission: Old Man & Oscuridad Camazotz & Puddin Pop Cybernetic Hitman & (can’t remember bond) Who else? We have so many good soldiers and mechs. Doc, Ironclad, Snow Queen, Petrol, knightfather(!?!) etc. Edit: after seeing Caerbannog in this mission she’s gotta be picked
Agreed. Though I think Tribal needs to come as he is an excellent cannon and Caerbannog’s bond mate. Unfortunately, does that mean that Snow Queen dosent get a spot? I would go for Grim as the mech.
@@ChristopherOdd I don't use all of the same classes as you have from the S9 list. I have the S8 list plus others that I've cherry picked from the S9 list and more that you don't use. My personal favorites are Infantry, Assault, Sentinel, Sharpshooter and Gunslinger. Some of the best are the ones that give damage like Infantry and Shadow. The ones that give more conditional attacks like Sentinel, Assault and Marauder. And the ones that give the best skills from base game classes like Sharpshooter, Gunslinger, Gunner and Dreadnaught. There are more that get a good perk at Brigadier, but these are the ones I have the hardest time passing on.
What mod is it or how do you prevent MocX/Exalt and the chosen from being on the same mission together? Just did a mission early game (no training centre, no proving ground, first mission with magnetic weapons) when i was fighting advent on a 6 counter mission and on turn 3 delayed reinforcements, MocX and the assassin all came in at the same time. That was like 9 units at once on a timed mission and im just not that good 😂 I can beat the timer, kill Mocx/advent or kill Chosen/Advent pick any two out of three. Late game with plasma gear and loads of skills that's doable but early game? It didn't go well....
Fun mission, although it does show that Advent is running out of steam. Since FL can't increase, you should just stop running Dark Events. This will give less and better missions, everyone wins. And don't take the super frost bomb spray thing anymore, for obvious reasons.
124 episodes in before RUclips just said NO, you shall not process the video!! Happy 2025 everyone!

Hard Luck really had some hard luck with that mission

Vegan's damage count was hard carried by the skulljack dealing 200 damage
Ya, that's essentially phantom damage (and doesn't get counted in the official tally). The way we handle the Skulljack and similar insta-kill mechanics like vanilla Repeaters is the soldier gets credit for damage equal to the target's remaining hp.

>Ruptured
Aren't you glad you made the powered weapons?
And to confirm, it’s guaranteed. Absolutely cracked
We can expect a flawless final mission then
@@N8xN8 To be honest, seems like a bit of a power equalizer against Legates and Mechapedes

Duchess+Rapunzel on same mission! I just cant handle so mutch beauty and awesomeness! Love them!

Well, I'm just gonna go relax for a while after that. Happy new year.
Okay that was THE ambush, so many enemies, holy XCOM.
Amazing job, Commander! I did not expect to see everyone alive this time.

There is a separate ability that gives a permanent hack, like domination. I can't remember which tree it was under though

For the latter half of mission, you pro a ably could have release soul merge to get some zombies to break overwatches
ADVENTs! ADVENTs everywhere!
Did Odd turn off Lost Brutes btw?
On final mission, it should be more than 6 soldiers. Too much good people and memories to not use.

SNS does look cool, but a lot of people can't handle xcom timers, I'm not sure they would go for a game with real timers.
Chris, will you be checking out This Bed We Made? I think it’s right up your alley.
does holding onto soul merge have a will drain?
Btw when it says 1 turn, you have him for another full turn
Love me some early new videos
So final mission:
Old Man & Oscuridad
Camazotz & Puddin Pop
Cybernetic Hitman & (can’t remember bond)
Who else? We have so many good soldiers and mechs. Doc, Ironclad, Snow Queen, Petrol, knightfather(!?!) etc.

I thought he was with Zhon Do who died in a later mission, it was some lower level unit for sure. Looking at it it appears to be open atm.
Knightfather is super important imo
Some Brigadier skills are decent, but most others like Infantry are very powerful.
