Nice work bud, you got that looking nice and clean too! That advice about turning into it and letting the board follow your shoulders, pretty much applies to everything in Skateboarding. I need to take my own advice cos I always forget this when trying to do backside 180s 🤣
Its nice to have someone to skate with because they always will notice stuff you cant see yourself!!! Sometimes that little word of advice can change how you think about something that seems so obvious to someone else but you cant see yourself skate lol.
@@fatdadskatesbad sometimes it's as simple as needing to be reminded of something you already knew. But yeah I skate alone a lot of the time so when I have someone to skate with it enhances the experience in every way 👌
First, get rid of the Andy A board. It's too long and an awkward shape. Try finding a board around 31 to 32 inches. Second, when you go up, turn your shoulders in keep.your shoulders parallel with the coping. Keep your back kind of hunched over. 3rd loosen your trucks. So when you turn, the trucks will have a better pivot point. Transition tricks work better with looser trucks. Fourth, keep a clear mind. If you're worried, you're going to fall, it ain't going to work. Always remember shoulders first, and then the board follows.
Yeah was a really tough one for me to put together. I had the drop in but was totally off on everything else. Finally been getting it way more consistent now. So rad your back at it man keep up it!!!
Nice work! I'm currently struggling with this one myself. Seems like the same situation you were in. I've been able to tap both trucks on the coping, but actually solidly engaging on top? Few and far between. I think bringing it to bigger transition is huge in learning this properly. And by "bigger" I mean like 4'. 😄
I think it helps to start small and work up. I still suck at axle stalls but can do them regularly on anything 2-4 ft. For some reason feebles are so much easier for me tho. Anyways keep on the battle and thanks for the kind words!! 🤙
Yeah your buddy's observation is correct. You want to have decent amount of windup from the arms and really get the shoulders to line up with the coping by the time you put the front truck down on it. To actually stall and stop on the axles, you do need a pretty intimidating amount of speed. I suggest finding a slightly smaller ramp and trying to kinda manual up, letting the heelside wheel pop over the coping, (turning at the last minute helps) and gently letting the front truck down. That control of having the heelside lock in and pivoting from it is what gives you confidence on big ramps, I feel.
All good advice!! Thanks you!! I am constantly working on it and am becoming more comfortable daily. Dont know if I am good enough to manual up a quarter but I am willing to try. I still have to get dailed in on every quarter I skate before I start landing them or feebles but I am sticking to 3-4ft and less for now bigger ramps are fun but I dont dare try and get on top lol.
@@fatdadskatesbad nah it's just a tiny manual right before the front wheels hit the coping up until you lock in, so you should be fine. You just need to make sure the bodyweight centered over the back truck until you lock in and are ready to put the front truck down. There is also another way to do this by bashing up into the coping like a powerslide, but I feel it's hard to prevent going toeside with that. On a sidenote, doing manuals both on the tail and nose can really help with just skating in general, and especially on transition. I started doing little nose mannys last year and honestly it cut down the times I bail and fall from tricks by a ton. Things like disasters are almost impossible to get down without nose manual, I feel.
We're the same pretty much well I am 50 been riding 2 years now. I am about 200 lbs. So I get winded a little. My struggle was rock to fakie, I just couldn't do it for like a year. Until I just put a elbow pad on and knee pads so if it didn't work out I could slide out or I simply slammed on my side. Finally got it but you really got to dig deep I ain't no young guy anymore. I think the axle drop was sooo scary to me just fear of not being able to jump off. You'll real get hurt bad that way. Anyway nice to see o g s out there I'll be watching thanks for videos.👍🤙
Yeah its been like 6 months since I madd this video and I am still struggling with this trick on bigger quarters. But good atleast on smaller stuff I can do it with my eyes closed. And super rad your still out there skating at 50 man!!! I am about to turn 37 and want to skate as long as I possibly can because I just love it so much. Only started skating about a year and a half ago!! Keep it up man 🤘
Build yourself a ramp if you can. Even just a 1-3 foot ramp in your garage will help. I have a 2.5 foot half pipe in my back yard and am going to build a 2 foot 1/4 in my garage to also practice on. Having my own ramp has made a huge difference in my skating. I also have used a few different board set ups to determine what I like. My go to has been my Caballero shaped deck with Indy 149's and Bones 58mm Hawk wheels. But I really love riding my Grosso deck which is slightly wider with 169's and 58mm Spitfire Classics. Switch it up if you can. I never knew it would make such a difference.
I'm 43 and learning and i can't get on top of the deck. I can get my trucks onyo the coping but my body still is inside the quarter pipe... Been struggling for a looong time to actually get up there. Still battling...
Honest best way is to start in axle stall position and learn how to drop in. Thats the hardest part. After that then you just have to work on getting up there and it wont be so scary anymore. Hope this helps!! Keep it up!!
@@kapture520 then next step learn to get on top of the deck of the quarter pipe. Learn how to ride out onto the quarter pipe from inside and then work on getting closer and closer to parallel with the coping and then come closer and closer. It takes time but if you do that you will def get it. Also find a 2ft to learn pn it def helps. Good luck!!
@@fatdadskatesbad Yeah... Getting better at little baby 5050 grind/touches and pivoting back down the ramp. Just gotta keep at it and hopefully I'll eventually get up to standing on the coping!
Nice job! Maybe you've got it on lock already and have 115 makes in a row, but if not, I have a few observations that might help 1. Visualize having your head and body leaning at 10 or 11 o'clock over the tranny in your final position. 2. Push/press down on the wall just l below the lip, right before the stall. This will change your pump a little bit. 3. Think of your back heel wheel like it's a hook to grab and hang from the coping with. Put the front truck all the way up, making a sweet cross pinch.
Yes the cross pinch is the next one for me!! I def need to nail that hoping to this year. Thanks for the help I def like all the advice I can get I am still bad at these.
What helps me is to stay focused on the process. Visualize and rool up, commit, and stick the landing. Also the first few times I like to over exaggerate the knee bend, sometimes touch the ground with my hands. Just feels right when nobody is looking?
im sorry but did you say you have that ramp in your yard? maybe the house across the street will be up for sale. that last trick new guy did was insane
Learn how to first get on top of the deck of a small quarter without worrying about the coping. Then when you get that learn how to drop in from an axle stall position. My advice is to start on the smallest quarter you can find like 2ft. Good luck I still struggle with this trick sometimes but can usually get it till about 5ft quarters now. Was a super hard one for me so be patient!!
Hi. Good work there! I had same struggles. I also have the Andy Anderson Deck, which I think helped a lot to accomplish the stall. What Kind of wheels are you riding on the Andy? Cheers
Yeah was a tough one for me!!! Its a fun deck I started off with ricta speedring wheels in a 54mm in a 99a on her then threw on a set of spitfire 97a in 56mm conical fulls and now I kind of retired her from my main board to my cruiser set up with some bones atf 56mm 80a wheels which can literally roll over anything. Def super super fun on the soft wheels but super hard to ollie lol. Right now I am back on a madness sam becket impact light shaped impact light board and I absolutely love it.
I learned how to drop in first from the stall which was terrifying lol. It just took me forever to get into it correctly. Was really hard for me to learn took me months.
You are overshooting. Most beginners either overshoot or undershoot. The trick is to find the sweet spot. Also when learning axel stalls most people think you’re supposed to be standing straight up on the platform. Actually you want to be 45° angle from the platform halfway in the pool and halfway out.
So easy man, ur goin up on ur heel unbalanced. U needa go up like ur going out of the ramp, practice just exiting the qp and staying on top. Then u get used to the feeling of being up there, balanced, then its all about control, u have the rest all right, ur just not balanced and ur scared. Practice just fly out the top without trying to get in the stall, prob after a few trys ull feel the feeling im talkin bout. I focused too much on locking the heel like this , but just gotta break it down to staying balanced over ur board , not too much on heels, the heel thing will come naturally/ itll b easy to slide into place when ur balanced
At least you didn't do some dumb crap like the dude that takes a grinder to new trucks and "notches" the hanger to hold the coping , non-sk8 to say the least..... you are on it.
Omg swap those bushings out. They sound terrible . Too tight.. I would suggest just doing alot of Bs reverts on flat ground to get comfortable with rotating Bs . Cus it just looks like that Bs blind spot is you're problem as you keep falling back. Know what I mean . Good luck . Don't over😢think it if it's not working out today then walk away cus tomorrow could be the day. 😅
Im riding a madness now but have a andy anderson maple as a cruiser. I actually really liked the board but it was just a tad bit too big and a little awkward. Hard to pop but felt great on transition for me.

My problem was the re-entry
I learned how to drop in first from the stall which was terrifying lol. It just took me forever to get into it correctly. Was really hard for me to learn took me months.
hey bud, what wheels you riding there?
Its been a long time since this video think I was skating ricta speedrings at the time in like a 54mm. Havent skated those wheels in a long time.

You are overshooting. Most beginners either overshoot or undershoot. The trick is to find the sweet spot. Also when learning axel stalls most people think you’re supposed to be standing straight up on the platform. Actually you want to be 45° angle from the platform halfway in the pool and halfway out.
Thanks for the heads up

Thanks!! 🤙
throw that trash board away first tip
Im riding a madness now but have a andy anderson maple as a cruiser. I actually really liked the board but it was just a tad bit too big and a little awkward. Hard to pop but felt great on transition for me.
@@fatdadskatesbad i was just trolling you a bit, keep skating man
