I've seen my fair share of screen adaptations and even the best such as Chuck Jones' "Mowgli's Brothers", Soyuzmultfilm's "Maugli" and Andy Serkis' "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" don't even look like sloth bears, especially in the case of "Maugli" where he was changed to an Asian black bear, but at least his diet matched. It is a shame, because they are truly a unique looking species.

Ok, only partially true. He was frustrated about not getting the watermelon and then took it out on the other bear. And yes, they are very dangerous. They kill more people in a year than grizzly's and Alaskan brown bears have in the last 20 years combined.

When they were first discovered, scientists believed they were ground sloths thanks to their shaggy fur and long claws. Of course… they’re not sloths at all, but a small bear species.
