Thanks Ralph! Had to laugh about the Hollywood comment. Even if I was fortunate enough to make it in Hollywood I will always be part of this hobby and community!
I used to run O gauge and Lionel when I was a kid and loved it. Im amazed how far they have come today! I've switched over to N-scale so I can create the layout I want in the space that I have available. Love your videos tho!
Great video Chris. This has to be the best and most informing Lionel train commercial ever and the best infomercial for the fine people at Trainworld! You should be in their good graces!
I just got to say, I don't even run O scale, I run HO. I have a few Lionel sets prewar and postwar and a handful of nice postwar engines along with newer (within 10 years) Atlas freight cars. I do wish I had the space and funds for O. But what I'd really like to say is I stumbled across your channel probably about a week ago and subscribed after one video. Something about model train reviewers that annoys me and I'm honestly subscribed to now you and one or two others, that's it. Love your content and attitude bro. It really does make watching your videos entertaining and enjoyable.
There’s always something special about less expensive sets, they don’t have to be the best to make people happy, they are still fun to run & overall just appealing
So great to hear @Ginger Wii! Thank you for your support as well and I am so glad that you have been able to connect with your Grandfather. As with any hobby, it is always great to share with others!

Excellent video, my friend! Great to see demos of all of these engines on your layout. One thing I especially enjoy about the LionChief Plus 2.0 engines is the smoke output. The transition from the first generation of LionChief Plus (and from the LionChief sets) is huge. I have three LC+ 2.0 engines on my layout, including the Berkshire you showcased. They all provide near-Legacy level smoke output. Fantastic engines for that price point. Believe it or not, I think Lionel’s little LC+ 2.0 0-6-0T Docksider steam engine out-smokes all of my engines. LOL! I know you’re a big fan of that little guy! Cheers from Iowa!

Great video Chris! I think it is important for people to know that just because your buying an entry level set it doesn't mean that your not getting a quality piece. Your video does a great job pointing that out. Well done Chris!
Another great one Chris! As usual, time well spent! I love the wolf howl whistle on the Halloween Camelback, but that VERY funereal bell tolling floored me! Very clever indeed!
Great episode Chris. I have to say the Polar Express is, and will probably always be the best "gift" set for a young kid. Santa brought one (pre-Lionchief) for my daughter 13 years ago. He has also brought her all the of add-on cars, the sound tender, and other Pol-Ex accessories through the past 12 years. She still loves the train and always can't wait to see it run at Christmas time. As far as the rest of your list, Ms. Claus is giving me the SD70ace in B&O paint for Christmas. Funny how Mr. Claus had to pay for it, but while I... I mean "He" was paying for it, he got himself the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Ten Wheeler too. I'm actually trying to track down a Strausburg or Reading Camelback also. I will also say that some other great adds to the list would be the Keystone Special set, The Chief set, and the Christmas Light Express set... if you can find it. But good call on your list. All solid pieces. And thanks to Ken/Ken Jr. at Trainworld for hooking you up with the engines to show us.
Great video lots of choices for lots of people. People collect on many different levels. Prices & space availability It’s good to see many different people can enjoy the same hobby. Lionel is very smart All the trains were Awsum 🚂👍👍👍👍👍. Great job 👍
I recently picked up the Lionel Winter Wonderland Express set. For the price, around $250.00 It's a great value. Comes with a circle of the new white Fastrack. It has all kinds of Christmas sounds, including playing Christmas carols. It's Bluetooth enabled and just a great set for the money. Your picks were right on. I'm certainly going to check one out. Especially that Halloween engine....LOVE IT!!!
Just went to Trainland and saw that Texas and Pacific 10-wheeler. Was 🤏 close to buying it. That mint green paint really pops! Thanks again for sharing Chris!
I used to have the 1st gen polar express Lionel model. It was a decent model for the price. It was a gift to me by my grandfather when I was 7. I had 2 other engines before then that were given to me. I took care of em. Used the engine & cars for another 5-6yrs. Then 2yrs ago when I was 15 I sold the engine, & cars. The 1st gen engines tender had a draw bar defect w thin steel it snapped off after 5 yrs of careful gentle use. The engine was kinda weird, & always was. It wouldn’t cycle sometimes, & was rly jerky glad I sold it. Abt 3months ago I bought the infamous 736 Berkshire with the 12 wheel tender on eBay fully rebuilt for $230 not including shipping costs. Abt a year ago I sold the rest of my engines w microchips in em, & replaced em w ones in the 1950s. They all work/at least go forward, & they’re great. I hate the new stuff, crappy, & plastic. Never again. I got hosed by a lionchief Mikado 5yrs ago, & never again. I got my $ from it, & got Lego trains i later sold 4yrs later, & got all my $ from em. At the end of the day, if Lionel offered a 2-3yr full warranty on their engines where if there’s any issues u send it back only including software not related to abuse. The computers in these trains are cool, but when they fail they fail miserably. Happy train hunting from someone 10-12yrs in the hobby.
Hey Chris. I was at the Greenberg train show in Edison today. I’ve never seen it so big and crowded. It used up notably more floor space than in past years.

I've been lucky enough to make it to two Greenberg Edison shows, a "right-place, right-time" kind of thing. While all Greenberg shows are good I'd have to say the Edison show is the "Gold Standard." Some very cool locomotives, I must say!! I absolutely adore my steam locomotives but because of my Asthma, have a paranoid dislike for the poor old diesel!!
Thank you CHRIS for sharing your layout videos I know that YORK PA train show was fun I know rRussell and Suzanne Hemingway from Tiny Tims trains in Ashland VA I go there for train day stay safe Chris ;-)
That’s a tough question to answer! So many folks like different trains and road names so there is not 1 train to rule them all. Plus the meta and interest shifts with each catalog. As a collector, the 1938 Lionel 700e is considered one of the most collectible trains. For Modern Collectors, it is all over the place! Most viewers seem to favor the Lionel Vision Like Big Boy when it comes to modern steam engines from Lionel.
Speaking of Halloween trains, the one I have for that is called the Transylvania Express or something like that. I think the set usually came with three cars and had the number 31 on the side.
This is a great video thanks I've been trying to afford one of those Polar Express trains like you were showing since the movie actually came out but it doesn't matter how many Lawns I mow or how hard I work as a kid I still can't afford one so I'm just going to keep on wishing and hoping LOL it would be really awesome if Lionel train company just sent one to me
I had a Lionel Hudson (1990's production) do the same thing! I should have gotten suspicious when I saw a glow coming from the smoke unit, then one day "POOF! WOOMPF!" A flame shot out of the stack! Turns out the smoke unit drew power from a circuit board that obviously had been giving it too much juice. I rebuilt the smoke unit but rewired it to take power directly from the track. No problems since then.
@@wayneantoniazzi2706 oh wow! Yup that sounds like my situation and then the smell of burnt plastic. The smoke unit was made of plastic 😂. We replaced the unit with OEM parts and still runs.
@@wayneantoniazzi2706 oh wow! Yup that sounds like my situation and then the smell of burnt plastic. The smoke unit was made of plastic 😂. We replaced the unit with OEM parts and still runs.
@@NixCrossing My smoke unit had a metal pot, for lack of a better term, with a plastic cap. The rebuild kit came with the heating unit and sleeve, fiber batting, and a replacement plastic cover. I got the rebuild kit from Henning's Trains in Lansdale PA in case you're interested. I was a shocker when that thing blew, let me tell you! I'd never seen anything like that before!
I got a Lionel M1a and K-line smoking caboose as my xmas gift to me! Right around $500, used market scale engines are awesome ! Next up a Lionel challenger
Aw heck yeah, I made it just in time, I have no money to give, I would give some of my models but they are all broken and haven’t run since my great grandfather died, but I can still try!!
Sounds like some great candidates for repair! I restored my neighbor's Post War engine last year. It is one of my favorite vintage trains. When I first got it, it was covered in rust and did not run. I had a local shop restore it and they brought it back to life. :)
@@RBPTrains these ones are a bit, mangled They were stored in a trailer & the trailer was ransacked by the homeless & people bought the trailer & gutted it and somehow I got the box they were in but it was all crammed in, the guys never came back for the rest of the stuff
Im still trying to find a new train for Christmas and im hoping to get a g scale Tweetsie Railroad train set because all the o scale items are expensive
what would you recommend for me? I have the Mikey Mouse express train set. So we have added mth Christmas led cars over the years now. We have 5 and one more coming in the mail. This little engine is struggling. lol! I want something like this that can tackle o36 and maybe light up like mth cars. Also our set has much more track! I have a switch to move from the Christmas 🎄 throughout our living room!
Sounds like a heavier engine will do the trick for you! I would look at some of the die cast Lionchief engines that can be run with the LC remote or Bluetooth so you do not need to hunt for a control system. That should give your growing train a little more boost! Enjoy!
Hey Chris I'm liking that Halloween camel back locomotive it's a locomotive did you say that it has the whistle steam effect is emaffect how does that work does the whistle come out to add the smoke fluid or do they leave a hole on the side of it to add the smoke fluid just curiously
Such a useful video if you collect them too. I like it On a side note, have you seen a music video named Roll On Big Boy? I bet you would enjoy it since it's about Big Boy

Because do you also have an outdoor track, Because this size you have can also be driven in the garden, I will in any case look moor after your show, Kind regards Henk from Belgium❤😀😉
I’m sorry, but I live and railroad in England, where they’re called RAILWAYS. I model in British 00 gauge and have a micro layout called Walmington-on-Sea, after the location of the old television series Dad’s Army.
They showed "Dad's Army" here in the US for a time back in the 1980's. Great show! Loved it! "Give 'em the bayonet Captain Mainwaring! Worked on the Fuzzy-Wuzzys!" Lionel made a try with OO here prior to WW2 and made some good pieces but dropped the concept post-war. A lost opportunity.
I have a question about the Lionel Hallows eve train I am hoping you can answer for me. I am interested in this train for my Halloween layout but don't have a Legacy control system. I have been running conventional with a CW80. I was thinking I could use that as my power and use the Lionel Lionchief app but am not sure what features I would loose. If I loose all the cool sounds that would make me think I should just get something like a Lionchief 2.0+ 0-6-0T and save a bunch of money. I really do like the Legacy and will probably end up getting the control system sometime down the road anyway. Just don't know when. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Edward! You still get a lot of value and sound from the engine with the Lionchief App (Bluetooth). You can adjust the whistles, bells pitch and trigger the voices. The only thing missing from the Lionchief app is the #7 Key (Tower Com) button that Legacy has. This triggers the additional voices on the engine but if you are getting Legacy down the road you will be in good shape. Hope this helps!
@@RBPTrains Thanks for the help. I think it will be a great addition to my collection. I am still trying to get over the fact that MTH is out of business. I really liked there stuff.
@@playingwithmytrains5440 A personal preference thing, but I'm not particularly impressed with the "Tower Talk" feature on the Lionel steamers. Let's be honest, steam locomotives didn't have radios until VERY late in their time. Tower talk with a diesel? Another matter. MTH's take on crew talk was the crew talking to each other and that suited me fine. Oh, and MTH isn't going away after all, it's been reorganized under new management so let's see what the future brings.
Man forget the LionChief PolEx. It’s so squished and chintzy looking and the observation car looks like they forgot to finish the observation platform. Get the S scale FlyerChief version. It looks naturally to scale, the cars look good, and it has all the same functions as the LionChief set.
I have the first generation of the polar express train set, and I am having trouble finding the add on passenger car's and all the cars have the black roof top. That would make a total of 8 car's together and I also need the other coal tender that has the sounds from the movie. I would like to complete my 1st generation 0 gage polar express train set.
You make a great point about how the cars have changed a bit since the earlier sets. My Dad has one of the original Polar Express sets and the cars are harder to find. I found a bunch of them at the York Show so I would check out local train shows if you have nay in your area. Thanks for watching!
@@RBPTrains I will have to check in Gettysburg Pennsylvania at some of the train shops that I can think of, I hope I am able to find them, it would be really nice to have them to finish my set.
The 746 is an incredible engine! I did a video on that one a few months ago and it is one of my favorites in the collection. I agree, it is a True Legend!
Uh-oh... Anyone know how to get back the sounds on this 2021 Lionchief Polar Express? The sounds worked for the last weekand up until last night. We simply turned it off after about 5 minutes and after showing it off to some visitors and now as of this morning, 12/18/2022, no more sounds and can't find anything on forums, Google or RUclips on how to attempt a fix for this. I've tried the Bluetooth app, replacing remote controls batteries, disconnecting the engine from the coal tenders connections with both power on and off. Still nothing. Anyone have any tips or tricks to correct this? Thanks in advance.

I hope you're going to make a video like this for 2022!
Some very cool locomotives, I must say!! I absolutely adore my steam locomotives but because of my Asthma, have a paranoid dislike for the poor old diesel!!
Great video and reviews Chris. Awesome stuff for folks looking to get into the hobby, but not quite sure what's out there and what to get.
Thank you CHRIS for sharing your layout videos I know that YORK PA train show was fun I know rRussell and Suzanne Hemingway from Tiny Tims trains in Ashland VA I go there for train day stay safe Chris ;-)
Great place Tiny Tim's! I go there myself. Well worth anyone's stopping in if they're traveling up or down Route 95 in Virginia.
What’s the best possible train on the market today in your opinion? The #1. Thanks for the video.
Chris, another great video and demos! Thanks for sharing!
Speaking of Halloween trains, the one I have for that is called the Transylvania Express or something like that. I think the set usually came with three cars and had the number 31 on the side.
I'm noticing the engines all have the same voices and announcements. I bought both MEC go7's . And they both announce the same. Gotta love Patty!
Haha! I noticed the same. We have Patty and Mr Lionel
Great vid. Love how you mix up the content.
Thanks! There is too much to talk about with the hobby! :)
This is a great video thanks I've been trying to afford one of those Polar Express trains like you were showing since the movie actually came out but it doesn't matter how many Lawns I mow or how hard I work as a kid I still can't afford one so I'm just going to keep on wishing and hoping LOL it would be really awesome if Lionel train company just sent one to me
I wish Lionel would send me one too, haha!
Awesome video my friend! I remember my first 2-4-2 , Lionel NYCS with Railsounds. Smoke unit actually caught on fire 🔥🚂💨
LOL - Glad to see you made it out okay Nick!
The M1 is an epic engine! Big steam is always fun so enjoy that Challenger when you get it!
Aw heck yeah, I made it just in time,
I have no money to give, I would give some of my models but they are all broken and haven’t run since my great grandfather died, but I can still try!!
Sounds like some great candidates for repair! I restored my neighbor's Post War engine last year. It is one of my favorite vintage trains. When I first got it, it was covered in rust and did not run. I had a local shop restore it and they brought it back to life. :)
@@RBPTrains these ones are a bit, mangled
They were stored in a trailer & the trailer was ransacked by the homeless & people bought the trailer & gutted it and somehow I got the box they were in but it was all crammed in, the guys never came back for the rest of the stuff
Im still trying to find a new train for Christmas and im hoping to get a g scale Tweetsie Railroad train set because all the o scale items are expensive
Great video on an unrelated note do you have any tips on building benchwork?
Great suggestion! I am going to try and pull together a video on benchwork in the future.

Great enthusiastic video I really liked what you did with the Halloween 🎃 camelback steamer
Thanks! Had some fun with that engine. Was really hoping it would arrive before Halloween but better late than never!
what would you recommend for me?
I like it
On a side note, have you seen a music video named Roll On Big Boy? I bet you would enjoy it since it's about Big Boy
OMG those Halloween Camelback sounds are hilarious, ha-ha.
Hello Chris I just subscribed myself to your show. It`s the first time i see you,But you have very nice equipment driving around, I also have a Modelbaan Ho trains and I am also a train driver in Belgium Europa, From where is your If i may ask? Because do you also have an outdoor track, Because this size you have can also be driven in the garden, I will in any case look moor after your show, Kind regards Henk from Belgium❤😀😉
I am so happy you got they ten wheeler my favorite engine so far. I think that is what Is am getting for Christmas
It's a good one! Hope you are getting one. You will enjoy it!
Hey Chris if you don’t mind me asking what controller do you use for those locomotives?
thanks for the run down. great stuff.
Great rundown of the options!
Excellent job thanks 😊 I love 🎵 steam locomotive 💘 🚂 from India 🇮🇳
Congratulations on the sponsorship!
Im gonna stick to ho-scale for now but plan to get into o-scale in the future
The lionchief 2.0 Berkshire would be perfect for my ceiling layout. I’m looking for something smooth and steady to run up there.
I could not believe how smooth that engine is. Great running engine and compact size. Perfect for a ceiling layout!
Fantastic Job Chris. How many train sets do you actually have in your collection?
Thanks Chester! Not sure about the number of sets in my collection. I should update the inventory at some point!
What is your favorite diesel and steam road name
The New York Central is my favorite if I had to pick one :)
I'm curious to see if lionel will be making lionchief or even legacy engines from the mth railking tooling I've heard they got.
We will be seeing quite a few new pieces from that acquisition over the next few years :)
Bought my grandson his first train set(MTH starter set) for Christmas I don't know if I'm starting him too early he should be born any day now
Never too early! Congrats!
Awesomeness! I love the tree!
You should do a video of your tank engines shunting trains for the bigger engines
Excellent review Chris
I’m sorry, but I live and railroad in England, where they’re called RAILWAYS. I model in British 00 gauge and have a micro layout called Walmington-on-Sea, after the location of the old television series Dad’s Army.
They showed "Dad's Army" here in the US for a time back in the 1980's. Great show! Loved it!
"Give 'em the bayonet Captain Mainwaring! Worked on the Fuzzy-Wuzzys!"
Lionel made a try with OO here prior to WW2 and made some good pieces but dropped the concept post-war. A lost opportunity.
Great information in this video. I took notes
Lol, no top-shelf Steam for you in this one Zac 😂
@@RBPTrains 😆😆😆. Sometimes it better to keep it simple.
The Halloween train is sweet
You should get the MTH Limited addition CP or southern pacific Christmas train
Great video Chris
Please check out the we 7500 or 7200 if you have one.
For under $800.00, I can pick up a 746. A***TRUE*** legend!!!!!
The 746 is an incredible engine! I did a video on that one a few months ago and it is one of my favorites in the collection. I agree, it is a True Legend!
Get overview of holiday products my friend!
Thanks Chris! Enjoyed seeing your Camelback video as well!
I love the train so much
I liked Lionel had some affordable trains.
Beautiful trains .... !
I’m just starting to get into the hobby
Enjoy! Glad you are getting started!
Can you plz tell me where you got the Lionel BNSF es44ac plzzz
Trainworld. It’s a great engine! Not sure if it is still available
I already know I'm getting a Lionchief 0-6-0T from my brother!
Yes! Great engine!
I love the trains
