We continue exploring up the Dickson Decline in the Mascot Mine near Hedley to several sub levels and find a strange wall! #exploringabandonedmines #hedley #abandondedmines #adventure #goldmines
Frank, request: on one of your shows could you explain how the miners drill their holes and pack the dynamite and blast out perfect arched passageways. Thanks Where do they go during a blast if they are really deep? How does a blasting cap work?
It's funny we take our everyday possessions for granted. Mining has led to most of these things have great respect for this history. Looks like that place should be restored and made a museum for sure. Coolest place I have seen on your channel so far but you keep surprising me every episode I watch. Stay safe and thank you..
Worked up there in 86. Went in the tunnels on the side that is now the open pit. Of Course we went in with safety gear & the geologists who knew the mine. Definitely some cool stuff in there as your video's show. Hiked around the mountain on the old trail that goes in around the mountain above the buildings. Back then parts of it were just a goat trail. Watching your video's brings back memories. Some cool history up in those mountains. On the backside, where the open pit is, was a small community built by the mine. In 86 all that was left of the buildings there were the foundations. Exploring east of there, off the road on the road towards Apex is a very small forgotten graveyard if I recall.
I really hope this mine gets saved and restored. Its seriously such an engineering feat and back in the day are you kidding me. Its beautiful and be such a shame if it is left to rot
This latest series has been just amazing! I play Dungeons and Dragons with a group of friends, and I've recommended this channel to all of them, to give a sense of what it's really like inside old mines and caves.
This place is quite large set-up, buildings and all. Wow, imagine living there, while working, real scenic. That is one big compressor room, ECHO, Echo, echo. Onward. That Incline is massive. 2 Carts it looks like. They moved a lot of ore from here. I can imagine how big the open pit is. That explosives box existed before i was born in December.
I can't help but recall an old "Mine subsidence board" safety message that was on TV here in Australia from when I was a kid. "If you see a hole, Don't be a mole. Run in the opposite direction and report your detection" It's worded differently now though. I guess you are a happy mole exploring tunnels. Awesome
This place looks amazing. Definitely needs some cash and TLC. A lot of people find mining fascinating, And before i saw your channel i knew next to nothing about Canadian mining, especially in BC.
Wow !! Awesome video !!! Thanks for the tour. Great history there and the equipment is great to look at. I liked the flatbed cart. Thanks again for an excellent view of these inner workings !!!
Hi Frank, I couldn't quite pull out what you said at the start of your video but it sounded like you were threatened by the owner of the mine? Your doing more good by publicizing the mine, the history behind it and explanations of the workings of the mine than the owner is obviously not doing. You do not vandalize anything and everything is always left as you found it. What's his problem?? Keep up the great work Frank!
Exploring Abandoned Mines Unfortunately your videos and skulls with $50 bills will encourage people to show up there that don’t care about what they do and they will damage things and leave trash behind.
Exploring Abandoned Mines I think people should just offer to give you tours of their mine. Lol! That’s the best way to keep tabs on where you’re going!
I wonder how many men died building these structures right on the side of shear rocks? It's hard to imagine what and how they got all the materials up there just to string the cables was a feat in it's self. I'm no wuss nor are my fellow co workers here in the coal mines of Ky but when these mines were built they were built by a different breed of man. Thanks for a Great Thursday Frank by sharing this video which is what I will do this evening some of them don't even have running water, electric let alone a smartphone
@Scott Baker I hope you're not one of the guys in Harlan that got screwed by the company that supposedly went bankrupt. I don't blame those guys for blocking that train. I heard they worked 2 months without getting their due pay. My prayers go out to those guys. I'll bet the company heads got their pay. The government needs to get off their tax padded back pockets & actually do something about it!!!!!!! I haven't heard anything since the 2nd. Do you have any updates on that situation?
jdcrowe82 I have no idea which mine you're talking about but i'm not from that area i'm down near the Ky Va border. Harlan or as we call it bloody Harlan County is north of here but that crap happens all the time in the mining industry
@@scottbaker4314 I think it had to do with black jewel mining co. or something similar to that name. The miners went for 2 months without pay & the company conveniently decided to file for bankruptcy, but spent money trying to deliver a huge train load of coal in a last ditch effort to make some money. The miners were camping out on the tracks blocking the fully loaded train from moving out. I admire & respect you for working a very tough job in an area that's tough to make a living in. I hope they can get it all sorted out & pay those workers the money they're entitled to.
Awesome scenic views at the outset - I never tire of seeing the beauty of the landscape. I think it is brilliant that you explore these sites and it would be a shame for it to become a derelict place; I too hope that somebody has the vision and the backing to bring it back to life. You are giving it plenty of publicity anyway Frank with your 71K followers, who knows what may happen! I enjoyed you taking us for a second look round the site - that compressor shed is brilliant and the views alone from up there are magnificent. The mine is just full of history and you really do it justice by exploring every bit of it where it’s safe to do so. That huge solid wood door was cool, and the cable spool was a real nice find. Anyway Frank thank you for sharing the experience with us, take care and be safe.
Too bad all that building are rotting away, and that part of the mine had quit a lot of rotting woods very unsafe, but they did have a safety exit lol sort off, great explore loved watching it, thnx mate.
I like exploring abandoned places but I don't think I could bring myself to going inside mines though. The closest I've been to that is hiking through the Snoqualamie RR tunnel that is on the Iron Horse state park trail.2 mile long tunnel under a mountain.
What an incredible adventure. I could have spent a week there just being nosey. I use to do some caving down in southern Indiana. Most of those were old saltpeter mines. They weren't near as long as the ones you travel through. I'm 66 yo now so those days are long gone. Thanks again!
Hello, Mr. Frank! OK, going up that long, winding staircase at the beginning of your film would absolutely kill me! Goodness. Oh - I received my hoodie last week and I love it. My son-in-law is jealous! Once again, thank you for showing us these deep, dark places. Be safe!
I was fascinated with what was left at the bottom in headly when I was a kid......as a young man I made the journey up the trail from town to the mine buildings grins some 40 odd yrs ago....it went through a phase of restoration.....but I doubt the province is really interested in preserving....
Great Video Frank. I hop they save all the buildings and give tours again . But it takes money some like to keep in there pockets and not spend it to make money. You ware playing shoots and ladders .
Hi Frank, so many false floors in that one, a shame you couldn't get into the pit as there was that zigzag slope opposite you could have just walked out straight up to ground level. A very cool mine though, thank you for sharing. x
Everytime you open one of those storage boxes and say theres never anything in them I think to myself is it just me or is he blind? I can clearly see that its filled to the top! This one was full of supervisor brains, and the one on the last video was full of sailboat fuel.😂 sorry, I just had to do it. Another great video Frank! Your a fearless animal my friend, be safe.
At about 14:13, the face of the adit looks a whole lot like a doorway ... I can almost see a crack around most of the center of the rock wall ... Hmmmm ?
Kind of gives you an idea of what how an ant spends its life... crawling around underground digging holes and tunnels. It's unimaginable just how long it must have taken to carve all that rock away.
who would have thought ya would find swiss cheese in canada?! :P awesome mine, thanks Frank..i really hope they do something with it and not let it rot...ya dont see places like that anymore..it needs to be kept for historical purposes...
If you manage to buy an old gold mine or take over a claim you could make areas safe and invite paying customers to come and experience gold mining. Not the mechanical type, just a rock hammer and a couple of buckets each. Pan out at the end of the day, a rewarding day out ☺
Wow that had to be quite a feat to construct all those structures , plus to get all the equipment up there.. Wonderful to capture what remains today on camera.. Is that the main reason they don't want people up there is safety concerns? If I understood right , sounds like joint ownership.? Does one need permission to be at the site? Very well done.. I hope it is not closed off to the public.. Look at the rich history there..
Tough questions to answer all I can say is this a trespassing ticket will cost you $100 I have not been convicted yet and have been in hundreds of mines.
@@exploringabandonedmines Thanks Frank.. I look up to your knowledge and skills which stand out as being the best in any mine .. Often the stopes were mined from the top down but access to them was often from below them.

It might happen.
