The key word in the "distinct kicking motion" rule is the action verb: "propelled". It's not about intention, and not about the skate lifting or not. The rules allow you to intentionally place your foot in a position to deflect the puck where you want it to go using its own momentum (even if placing your foot that way means pushing it forward from your body). It becomes a kick when your gesture actively drives the puck forward not under the momentum it already has.
I went to a Coyotes/Golden Knights game in Vegas in their first season. VGK scores while the Knight mascot is walking past us. He looks at my friend in a Coyotes jersey and says, “Excuse me sir. You seem to have some crap on your jersey.”
Thank you guys for helping me through a tough time I've been in lately. Just being able to listen to you guys chatting gives me a feel of normalcy and is very grounding. Bless!
Hey - just wanted to send you my very best. Life can be really a hard sometimes, and the constant grey of winter doesn't help. I too have struggled a bit lately, so I want you to know that you help us just as much. Reach out any time. The community is really great here, you'll find no shortage of people who will want to connect!
Here in sweden, we start learning English in year 3 of school. Then, in year 6 we get to choose a third language, most often between German, French or Spanish
It's an easy answer..He plays on a team with Mcdavid and Draisaitl.. Draisaitl doesn't even get enough recognition then he should playing on a team with Mcdavid..Mcdavid doesn't even get enough recognition then he should playing in Edmonton (no offense) and here in the states, hockey doesn't get enough recognition then it should for being the best sport..I wanna move to Canada
every. time. language. is. brought. up. my. inner. linguist. brain. wants. to. share. so. much. that entire first segment was awesome guys!! there is so much I would love to share, someday I would love to! I know I have commented fun little tidbits about linguistics before, and I notice that it's talked about a lot, so that would be really fun someday if I ever could
Speaking of multilingual athletes, red wings prospect Marco Kasper speaks at least German, Swedish, and English. I’m also reminded of a Steve’s dang it’s where Steve thought it was impressive Leon draisaitl was able to be sarcastic in a second language
I’m Chilean and I speak Spanish, English, and Hebrew. When i lived in Ottawa for two years I learned sone French… is really a thing of really wanting to communicate … and also it helps when you have family that lives in the US and other countries as well. 😊
For all his scoring Hyman has also been getting robbed by goalies pretty regularly all year. Not Puljujarvi or Yamamoto bad but he's near the bottom of the league in goals above expected (minus 8 or 9 or something.) He's also had like 5 goals called back on reviews. Could easily have 10 more right now.
8:57 IMO, english is the easiest language to learn as a native french speaker. When you look at spelling, grammar and overall simplicity, english is way easier than spanish, german or italian. Also, the number of words (english is at roughly 171k and french is at 59k) isn't necessarily a good indication because most of the english words that you need to learn to be able to hold a conversation are really simple. You don't need to learn all the flashy Shakespeare-ian vocabulary in order to understand spoken english. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong but I think french is really hard to learn especially in writing for someone who is not a native french speaker. Heck, even native french speakers have a hard time writing in french without making mistakes.
One of the first to watch this one. For languages; if you can speak French you can figure out Italian and Spanish as they are all similar. Someone I knew from Finland said they learned Swedish and English in school as well as Finnish.
Say it with me... PROPEL. Has nothing to do with safety. If anything but a player's stick propels the puck into the net, it isn't a goal. This rule isn't difficult once a person gets off the work 'kick'
The whole Victor E. Rat clip just goes to show how you should never judge any incident off of a partial clip and minimal information. The guys watched, missed the jersey throw the first time. Then saw the jersey throw and assumed it was that fans. Could have been a prop that the mascot brought for all we know. Clips are terrible for context. Context matters. Loved the conjecture though haha
From Loch Ness I got a little Nessie that sits on your shelf or a table etc. The head is one piece, each hump/back arch is another, and the tail tip is it’s own piece as well. Makes it look like Nessie is swimming in your shelf!
To Jesse's point about not appreciating longevity, I've never been able to take Over Drive seriously after they had a nearly 20 minute conversation about Patrick Marleau where they concluded that he shouldn't be in the hall of fame because he didn't have any singularly great seasons, he was just good for an extremely long time. The man has played more NHL games than any human being in the history of Earth. If that is not worthy of the hall of fame, nothing is.
Gordie Howe had his best season when he was 40. Some might argue that was post expansion, when the league was watered down. However, everyone else was playing in the same circumstances, and he finished 3rd in scoring that year, behind Phil Esposito and Bobby Hull. I always found that remarkable.
Language info! (I'm not an expert so correct me if I'm wrong): Welsh, Irish, and Scottish Gaelic are all Celtic languages, along with Cornish and Manx. Irish and Scottish Gaelic are both gaelic languages.
I'm from Finland and when I was a bit younger and studying, I would just stay up watching games, because I didn't care to or needed to sleep as much. Now as a person with a nine to five job can't really watch as much. A bit more during the weekends but definitely not every game. But I watch highlights and listen to podcasts and so on to keep up with what's going on.
28:07 counterpoint, jesse. A children's choir sang the chorus of "billionaire", leading into a bruno mars drum solo for the 2014 half time show. Bruno and the hooligans didn't start singing until like 2 mins in.
Man I’d love to learn Gaelic seeing how I study Irish history…but after 7 years of schooling I can’t even speak Spanish so I think that dreams out the window
I understand lebrons shot was a huge moment in sport history. I can see why people would want a video of it. But I also think it’s kind of sad to think that it happened in a full arena and maybe handful of people actually seen it happen live with their eyes and not thru their phone screen trying to get on video. Maybe I’m just getting old but if I go to a concert or a game and see people there with their phones in the air taking videos the whole time I get kind of annoyed. This is just my opinion but I like to watch and enjoy moment as it’s happening. I don’t think you can fully enjoy and appreciate the moment looking through your phone screen. I get taking a few pics but there’s a limit then it gets to be a little much. Like if you want to watch the whole game or concert thru a screen you could of saved some money and watch it at home. And Lets all be honest, few things are more annoying than someone at concert your not at and their sending you a 25 long snap chain of terrible quality, bad angle, shaky video of you filming whatever artist on stage.
Did anyone else hear 'Victor Erat' and think 'oh, I guess Martin Erat has a brother I'd never heard of that is apparently a Panthers depth guy' when they were introducing the mascot story?
I worked game ops with the Toronto Rock for a few years, and I did a bit with the mascot Iggy where he was supposed to rip an opponents jersey off of me (pre-torn at the collar), was going bad and ended up jerseying me instead. Ended up being hilarious in the end.
You defintely forgot Nugent-Hopkins. 51 games, 62 points, and he drives his own line, although lots of PP points as well, but....he is a part of that PP ;)
What's crazy with the NY Rangers turnaround is, that they (so far) whiffed at their two highest draft picks. Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafrenière are kind of meh. Especially considering players like Seider, Cozens and Zegras or Stützle and Raymond were traded after them in the Top 10s.
Hockey fan from Finland here. For me it`s normal to watch NHL at 2am After all there`s nothing important happening in my life between 6am and 1pm so I can just sleep.
Gents! Need a small point per game rule amendment. After someone gets a player wrong, the opposition must name someone or else you keep going! I know Adam brought Bo up after but we need to see that pressure pick!! 😁
Get your kids speaking another language by 7, that’s when the plasticity of the brain for language starts to reduce. After your mid-teens it is a small miracle if you can learn. -Janet Belsky, Experiencing the lifespan, 6th edition. (Paraphrased)
There's Irish and Scottish Gaelic, which are closely related Celtic languages. Then there's Welsh, which is a celtic language as well but is not that close to the other two! Love, a Spanish-as-a-first-language speaker who loves the podcast (and is learning Welsh for fun)
If the puck hits your skate, and it goes in, it should be a goal. If you deliberately angle your leg or skate so that it would go on (it changes heading from 330° to 220°), it's not a goal. Also, Mangiapane kicked it in, he did both, both angled his skate and moved it forward, so it should automatically be called back in my opinion, but hey, these rules are stupid. Every time, you expect an OBVIOUS kick to be called back, it counts, and then when Gaudreau or whoever, when it was already going in, that got called back, when it really should have counted.

Sorry guys. My dad is from Canada, mom USA, I was born in the Netherlands and live in Slovakia. English in not the hardest language…English is easy because it has been simplified by so many nations using it over the years! Glad the Devils got Nemec!
The Rangers fans were very happy with the letter. We knew we wouldn't win the cup with the team we had and we were in a playoff seed when that letter was released. The fanbase was totally behind the rebuild
So about the whole Günther Steiner being Italian-- He's Italian by citizenship, but is generally to be considered to be of Germanic descent. South Tyrol/Bolzano is a region of primarily German-speakers who consider themselves ethnically German. The region was annexed by Italy after WWI from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but the culture is still heavily Germanic. Similarly, Switzerland has four national languages because it has different language pockets within the country's borders, namely German, French, Rumantsch, and Italian. German speakers are the majority, but different Kantons have different primary languages. This doesn't mean the Swiss are all great at languages, though. My fiance is a German-speaking Swiss, and he failed French so badly that his high school school threatened to kick him out a few times over it.
Sorry, but John Tortorella isn’t the face of the team. He’s just the guy with media attention for no reason. It’s Hart and Konecny who deserve praise for this team
Jesse, "Every Grand Slam, Federer speaks in the language they speak there, it's incredible", isn't saying that much when you think about it, 3 of the 4 slams are in the UK, US and Australia xD Switzerland four languages, but to be fair, nobody speaks Romansch (I doubt Federer does). But then you learn Swiss German (Alemannisch) at home and in the streets, but Standard German at school, plus French, Italian, English as additional languages, plus the four other languages Federer learned on top of that, so 9 in total, indeed pretty impressive.
What pissed me off about the Tortorella letter to the fans was how obvious the reason is for why Tortorella was the one sending it. He's probably one of the only things Flyers fans like about the Flyers right now, and the FO wanted to USEEEEE that. If Chucklefuck Fletcher had sent that letter (and it wasn't a letter of resignation) no Flyers fan would be in that building again for years to come.
Thank you Adam so sick of fights/attacks more like from non involved players over any big clean hit especially open ice. Get those fights out and keep the real fights. Enough attacking people for a clean hit. Quick way to ruin the game
if you're telling me your family is from Drumnadrochit, then I'm guessing you've got some sort of Grant, Fraser, Macdonell, or Cameron background or something familiar to these.
I know it wasn’t a big part of the episode, but it always irks me when people talk about the Rangers rebuild and how it’s the gold standard. Largest factor to their quick turnaround since that letter is getting guys that only wanted to play for the Rangers (Fox and Panarin). I think any team would have a quick turnaround if two star players only wanted to sign with you because NY is such a big draw for players.
I dunno if its in this segment. but the lightning did an open letter after they got knocked out by columbus after winning the president's trophy and it got ridiculed relentlessly
If you want to stop the moronic 'mandatory fights after big hits', then have the ref review the hit. If it was clean, then the guy who threw the hit doesn't get a fighting penalty, and the other guy gets 5 fighting and 2 instigator = 7 minute power play. THAT'S how you stop the crap.
I don’t blame some guys for wanting to fight guys after a big hit. Some of these guys are best friends seeing your boys getting completely lit up like that is going to make you feel a certain way. They get the instigator and the team with the guy who was jumped has the chance to get the last laugh on the powerplay. I’m sure most players are totally fine with answering the bell even if it’s for a clean hit, adrenaline is pumping why not run a guy over and beat a guy up?
Adam there's over 600,000 words in the English language... thats only according to Oxford and doesn't include individual lexicons, vocabularies and slangs so the figure is probably closer to a million different words and because the way English is spoken it has more definitions of words than words...
Guys.. The Letter was made because the rest of Philadelphia's sports organizations are wrecking house. The letter was sent to make sure they weren't forgotten about in the sea of greatness around them. What do I mean by that? Eagles Superbowl. Phillies World Series Final. 76ers 2 round bound at least. Little Timmy is asking his middle class parents for 76ers tickets or Opening day tickets to the Phillies.. this was purely financial.
@Doulton Waddick I guess I should've been more clear, people didn't pick up on what I did. Steve says McKinnon within the first few people he names. At the end, Jesse says nobody said McKinnon has if to call Steve and Adam dumb.
most important thing that was not mentioned about the Kane to NYR rumors is that it seems like the entire league knows that Kane is hurt/needs surgery. even if Kane wants to go to NYR and Davidson retains, NYR just did this last year with a hurt Strome. they watched Strome limp around the ice and grit through an injury, like Kane is already doing now. a hurt player doesn't make any team better, doesn't matter what their name is. its all propaganda and i don't believe Drury has any interest in giving up assets for Kane
“You suck big rat” is easily my favorite quote of 2023 😂

LOVE the Florida book ban reference! Low key real talk
That seemed to slip by like the smooth move it was

Steve - Thank you for being the voice of reason here. Philly doing what they are doing is completely a PR move.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has 62 pts in 51 games everyone is sleeping on him this year
Sorry, I heard of him but can't place him the. Team he play, or what position. Hopefully you huys will let me know is he winger, center? And what Team

Could have been that the fan was drunk, his team was losing 7-1, and fans tend to throw their Jerseys when they're not happy

If Chucklefuck Fletcher had sent that letter (and it wasn't a letter of resignation) no Flyers fan would be in that building again for years to come.
That's why he sent it!
He's the only one people like
Thank you Adam so sick of fights/attacks more like from non involved players over any big clean hit especially open ice.
Sits next to bronny and LeBrons other kid 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DrumNuDroaKit! Got it
No way, Jesse. Rihanna is opening with Pon de Replay.
I dunno if its in this segment. but the lightning did an open letter after they got knocked out by columbus after winning the president's trophy and it got ridiculed relentlessly
it still does lmaoo it’s the best copypasta on twitter
Brady, LeBron and Djokovic... their longevity is incredible and insane
Yep! We got a Toronto Starbucks mug!
Something else to consider about LeBron James: He has been playing in the NBA longer than he has not been playing in the NBA.
Steve said McKinnon during point-a-game
55 points in 38 games is a point per game
@Doulton Waddick I guess I should've been more clear, people didn't pick up on what I did. Steve says McKinnon within the first few people he names. At the end, Jesse says nobody said McKinnon has if to call Steve and Adam dumb.
@@risk_it_4_the_biscuit mistakes happen
With 1-8 playoffs matchup, leafs would play lightning in first round anyway lol
could Adam mancrush any harder on Toto @ 6:07
most important thing that was not mentioned about the Kane to NYR rumors is that it seems like the entire league knows that Kane is hurt/needs surgery. even if Kane wants to go to NYR and Davidson retains, NYR just did this last year with a hurt Strome. they watched Strome limp around the ice and grit through an injury, like Kane is already doing now. a hurt player doesn't make any team better, doesn't matter what their name is. its all propaganda and i don't believe Drury has any interest in giving up assets for Kane
