Up on this topic guys, after several tries on my computer it looks like the relocate function does not work on my external drive 😞. Moving a folder on my internal drive and running the relocate process works but not at all when the folder is on the external on. Any idea would be welcome 🙏🏽 Thks
Dude this is crazy. I found your video because i was looking for a Shggy it wasnt me and in your video, one of the songs you serached for was shaggy it wasnt me lol good video thank you.
i combined 4 years of a specific genre and they all show up orange ... i did exactly what u showed and nothing happens i selected all the songs hit relocate and still nothing grabbed the specific folder they are currently in now and nothing there either ... what am i doing wrong ?
Used to use itunes sync for my crates because itunes would let you move and rename files and it would still play. As long as u refresh itunes before opening serato you were good. Now itunes performs like serato in that you cant move or rename without files going missing.
Hey bro I m running an old version of 1.9 version serato and I m trying to activate my subscription but I can't since I m using old version if I update to a newer version will my files/crates/folders still be There?
Love it... Solid deconstructions in ddjt also.. Jus got my new Macbook and external drive so this video was much needed... Love starting fresh and maintaining clean healthy serato lists and backups 9️⃣💯
Thank you so much for this tip. May I ask.. if you have music in folder o. Internal drive, do you have to add music to “All” in Serato DJ on the left? Also, when do you use the “All”? When is it necessary? Is it when you want to add music to music folder? I am so confused
is there a way to relocate "lost" tracks (meaning, those that were moved to other folders - or in folders that were moved - in the hard drive) WITHOUT making the tracks' names' letters white (looking as if NOT played) all over again?? I'd like to keep the played tracks in their blue letters as that's how I can tell which ones I play - therefore prefer! If this relocating action makes all the blue tracks white again that will be VERY tiring & time-consuming for me to make them blue again one-by-one!
I just bought a new external hard drive because the music and data that I stored in a previous USB flash drive just disappeared. Long story short I took the flash drive to a computer shop and retrieved the data and now I’m transferring it onto a new 1 TB external hard drive. The thing is, upon transitioning, I’ve lost my crates. Is there a way to restore my crates in the way I had them before the data crashed? I really don’t want to have create new crates if there’s a way to retrieve the original crates. Please help. Thanks 🙏 Peace ☮️
I know it is a late answer, but maybe in the «trashbin» icon on your computer? They go there after deleting them, so maybe they just deleted themselves?
i have had problem after problem after problem with serato im not gonna bother anymore as everytme i add new files they either corrupt go missing or the shit crashes.
love your videos bro. can you help me out with where to get music? i see you have these mixed songs and transistion folder on your set up, id like to bulk my library up a little more.
Hey having a ton of trouble. I have an extensive library. 60k mp3. I recently organized my files by putting them in corresponding mp3 and mp4 files in the same external hardrive. Serato says files cannot be found. But. When u try and select the mp3 file, serato does not read that i am dragging it into relocate. Im assuming because of the amount of music in the mp3 folder. Please help! Should i attempt to revamp my library or is there a way around this?
my question was, if your lost file is on an external hard drive, and you plug it in, and run relocate missing files.. after it finds it, will it get lost again after you unplug the hd, or will it find it and copy it and your good again?
If it's on an external, it won't show as a lost file. It just won't show up at all when the drive is disconnected. The information for the tracks on your external are stored in the external hard drive library. As soon as you plug in the external, the software will load that library and then display the tracks on that drive. Hope that makes sense..
Maybe you can help me. I download music to a folder in my desktop and every time I download new music I have to delete my crate and drag the file from my desktop to create a new crate so that the new songs I downloaded pop back up. Do you know an easier way to do this? How can I sync the file to my crate or am I doing something wrong?
just drag the new songs downloaded to the same crate. to make it easier sort the file on your computer based on Date, so that you can easily tell which songs were added recently.
Useful video. I have a slight variation on this question... Is there a way to relocate lost files where you have renamed either the sub-folder where the file is located, or renamed the file itself???
I believe if you rename the sub folder you just have to find the new folder in the "relocate lost files", but if you rename the file you may need to re-add those files to the Serato library.
how do you prevent it from scanning your enitre computer? It's doing that to mine. It's scanning thru all this producition, Native, Ableton stuff that I don't want it to. I pointed missing tracks to the folders they reside on and it's doing it's own thing.
NOTE: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY MUSIC TAGGING PROGRAMS Can someone please please PLEASE HELP ME OUT..... Why is it that when I back up my music files from iTunes to another drive some files lose their tag info? I have 8,800 songs and 1,500 of them lose Artist,Album & Genre When saving to another drive. I NEED HELP. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
This could be a variety of reasons. I would check the file format on those files, depending on what file format they are the ID3 tags may not save to the files correctly.
PDotTV I'm copying everything over to a new hard drive. I'm copying all the serato files plus my music files. I'm losing my analyze, and grids. Any suggestions
one thing i'd check first is if the tracks where you lost your analysis / grid data have "feature lock" (the gold lock to the left of some tracks in the library view) enabled, if that is the case, your beatgrid changes will not save on these tracks when you close serato.
Hey Pdot, I wish I had seen this video a few weeks ago. I got a new laptop and I wanted to put my music collection from my external drive on to my new computer’s internal drive. Of course all the songs were missing. I tried dragging the actual files into the “relocate missing files tab” (which didn’t work for me) instead of dragging the actual folder that my songs were in into the relocate tab. I ended up finding this programs called “list fix” and used it to relink my songs by using VDJ to turn my crates into individual playlists and dragging the new playlist back into Serato.
I do have a question, I have files in my Serato library that always need to be analyzed. I do it , then when i exit and go back in they need to be fixed again, all the song in question purchased from Itunes
Jose Lugo check if there's a lock next to track. It's that track I'd locked if I'm understanding correctly. Happens to me but been awhile since opened my serato now having a daughter. Will be back soon. But I seen this happen srry replied with not a 100% answer
Jose Lugo does make sense though. But if reanalyze files. With same location and etc.... I'd figure would find it. You changed id3 tags. But same location. Guess serato changing their layout and making it more complicated for users. Good catch though
Thx for this video. Just switched from Traktor to Serato and i have to say this is unheard of... that you can't relocate single file in Serato? You can't right-click on an entry and simply point to the new location (or new file name)? Sorry to say this is terrible programming. So live at a gig, i have to lock up the program for 30-60 minutes (my library is 30,000 songs) looking for ONE file? I keep all 30,000 songs in one giant folder... So, say i rename one file... i have to have Serato SCAN that folder for 60 minutes looking for the file? They don't give you a way to punch it in manually when relocating. Very, very dumb progrmminmg IMO.
If you could deep deeper into explaining deeply how the whole music management and , preventive , tips and recovery tips , don't feel 100 percent comfortable saving my music playlist , it feels not reliable
I am using a new MacBook which has not music saved in its internal hard drive. However, I have an external drive where all my songs are backed up from the older MacBook, plus the serato_backup and backup temp. I plugged this in my new mac, but all the songs remain not found. I tried to drag he music from the external, but still nothing is found. Is there a way around this w/o having to start over from scratch?
4 years later you just saved me a lot of time. Thanks Pdot
Happy to help!
Lost connection with a desktop folder mid event for whatever reason - I survived and the next morning, this video got me back! Thanks man!
You just saved my gig today my friend
Nah not working just says 0 files found :(
Thanks bro!
This just saved my life
Been tryna figure this management trick for years
its weird this is exactly the issue im having and i know what folder its in yet its saying 0 files found
I am waiting about four days now for these files to be recovered I moved my songs from an external drive to a solid state drive
Thanks fam much appreciated 🙏
Thanks research is key 🔓

Glad to hear that!

How do I make it so it knows to start looking in the new folder so I don't need to do this every time??
great video
Woah, great video mate!
Thank you!
I have trouble with my music on my serato some of my crates was blank but you can see the number but the all those songs what should I do
Hey bro I m running an old version of 1.9 version serato and I m trying to activate my subscription but I can't since I m using old version if I update to a newer version will my files/crates/folders still be There?
Yes I do and it make me Madd thank you for helping me
Thats good info, Thank you. what if the file is actually missing or deleted, but it keeps showing up orange?
how do you remove dead links in serato?
thanks man, great stuff
Love it... Solid deconstructions in ddjt also.. Jus got my new Macbook and external drive so this video was much needed... Love starting fresh and maintaining clean healthy serato lists and backups 9️⃣💯
Hello when i closed serato it doesn't say back up it just say are u sure u won't to close
Can u help me,i have songs in crate that only showing numbers, and I already analyse
dude you are the man thanks for that ...i got them back i was go krazy !!

does this works for traktor scratch pro 2 or 3 too
I have tons of music
on my external hard drive
none of them won't play

@@PDot MPEG-1, Layer 3, MPEG-2, Layer 3, ENCODED WITH “Lavf57.56.101” or “UNKNOWN”
NOTE: ALL OF MY OTHER FILES ARE MPEG-1 And they are fine
P dot with the phase can you use the serato vinyl
Is this function available on serato dj pro
Yes it is! It's found in the exact same place in Serato DJ Pro
PDotTV I'm copying everything over to a new hard drive. I'm copying all the serato files plus my music files. I'm losing my analyze, and grids. Any suggestions

Every time I open my Serato dj and connect my external driver the fonts are always so small how do I make the fonts bigger?
Move your head closer to the screen
I'm using the intro version and I don't have that option.
Is it normal to extremely long for this process. Like several hours?
Depending on how large your library and/or hard drive is, the process can take a long time.
PDotTV this will not work if you throw ur source files on an external hard drive and try to relocate serato Files the same way. Any suggestions?
thanks so much bro u just solve me a big problem

Very helpful!
My situation is way different, the crates went to alphabetical order and the songs of my main crates r missing not pink literally gone blank
Rescan ID's
Tried that already
I do have a question, I have files in my Serato library that always need to be analyzed. I do it , then when i exit and go back in they need to be fixed again, all the song in question purchased from Itunes

prtbone78 I found out what happen. I changed the mp4 in tunes to mp3 and everything went back to normal.
Jose Lugo oh wow sorry I'd never think of that makes sense though. .. thanks for reply of the fix incase I have same problem eventually.
Jose Lugo does make sense though. But if reanalyze files. With same location and etc.... I'd figure would find it. You changed id3 tags. But same location. Guess serato changing their layout and making it more complicated for users. Good catch though
prtbone78 yeah since I moved them from iTunes to another folder I guess I messed them up somehow lol
What’s up bro hey thanks for doing this video it help me it was very explained keep it up bro
WHAT DOES THE WHITE DOTS IN FRONT OF SONG LISTING MEAN?
It's actually a small iTunes logo, it means that it is pulling the song from my iTunes library since that's what I use to organize my music.
Still did no find my lost files
Are your files located on the same hard drive as your Serato DJ Pro app?
when I lose files ...what I do is... PANICK!
my playlist are gonne my muisc is still expect my playlists
Opps Thank you😅
my crates empty just like that
I be deleting them
ty man ! :D :D
