I would venture to say it isn't the most correct answer to the question because you can assume the light bulb is going to turn on when you "turn it on".
probassistNOT Lightbulbs do heat up rather quickly in my experience. There will be an obvious difference in heat but you'd have to be really quick in getting to the bulb after turning on the second switch

Guys the wire inside the ligt bulb gets hot emidiatly, but the material around it dsn't. It's the heat/energy that comes out of the special wire inside of the bulb that emits light. The energy released is hot. Therefore saying that it heats up also is a correct awnser. Sorry about my english. The explanation might have been a bit wierd since it isn't my native language.

What does LEDs have to do with it? Yes, they use less power than traditional filament bulbs but they still get hot.
Take one look at the monstrous heat sinks on downlight spec LEDs.
They won't be as hot as an incandescent but they'll certainly be above ambient temperature after 10 minutes of use.

Another way to solve it is, one of the switches control a light in the room you are in, switch one at a time until you find out which switch that is. Then flip one of the two remaining switches and go check the light. If its on its that switch, if its not, its the other one

Honestly, one can argue that QT is just a god. To be able to masterfully solve Jared's riddle while poppin of in a high elo game at the same time, that just takes skill that probably, not even our current LCS players could do.

can be answered in many ways, for example you could go up to the light and set it up so when you flick the switch the light will short circuit and pop, from there you can realise when youve switched the correct light on.

If there are 3 switches and two of them are for the room you are in just flick them all on and work out which switches are for the room you are in. The one that isn't for the room you're in would be the 3rd switch. This method is way better that's the one they had.

My guess at the riddle was (Assuming one of the switches controlled a light in the basement) was to flip each switch until you found the one that controls the light downstairs, then you flip one of the other switches and go up and check to see if the upstairs light was on, if it was still off then go back downstairs and you only have one switch left.
You cant change the riddle lol. No switch controls a light in the basement wtf. If one of the switches controlled one in the basement it would tell you that and then it wouldn't even be a riddle anymore.

Even if you used heat to determine if the light was on that still only can possibly narrow it down between two other switches.
here's a better one:
there are 3 brothers, 1 who always tells the truth and 2 who always lie (you don't know who's which one). Your car is parked in 1 of 2 garages, and they all know where your car is parked. you can ask 1 brother 1 yes/no question; what do you ask to figure out which garage your car is in?

Assuming you have a car, I guess you're a working man with money. You take three 20$ bills out of your wallet and "mistakenly" drop them by each of the brothers. The one who doesn't steal it and tries to give it back to you is the one who is most likely the truthful one, so ask him and get your car back.
Best way is to point at one of the garages and ask any brother "If I asked you if my car was in that garage, would you say yes?" They have to answer the same way regardless, either they tell you the truth, or they *would* lie to you but since they HAVE to lie to you and tell you the opposite they end up double negating themselves and telling you the truth anyway.

How about you turn one switch on. Walk upstairs, if it's on then you know which switch. If it's not on, you remove the bulb, put a piece of tissue or aluminum foil in the socket and go back downstairs. Then turn a switch on, wait to see if your house is on fire. If your house is not on fire, then it is the remaining switch. Ez Pz Jared.

Assuming at least one of the light switches goes to the lamp in the room you are in, there's another (beetter?) solution:
1: Flip the switches until you find the one for the lamp in your room. You can rule out that one.
2: Flip one of the other switches, go check the light in the other room. If it's on, that one was the right switch. If it's off, then the correct switch is the one you didn't flip.

My guess on the riddle,

If the Light feels warm, it was the first switch.
If neither are true, it's the third.
depends on the bulb manufacturer. The LEDs over my reef tank gather noticable heat when i touch the fixture to clean it, but it takes significantly longer to heat up, and cools down much faster.

As for the riddle: You have to turn on 2 of the 3 switches, wait 10 or so minutes, then turn 1 of them off. This way, you can deduce which one controls it. If it's on, then the switch you left on controls it. If it's off, check the heat around the bulb. If it's cold, then both switches didn't work and it's the one you didn't touch. If it's warm, then it's the switch you turned off.
This of course assumes that they are not LED light bulbs, and in fact the older, original models of light bulbs, and that you live so far away from everything that you couldn't get an electrical tool to test the energy flow, or even get another living being to just shout out when the light comes on.... lol.

The key to the riddle is that you can only check once but you need to get two results in that one trip.
So if anyone didn't understand (and hopefully this means that I understood). Mind you also don't need to test these exact switches but i'll just name them
Turn On Switch1 for about 10 minutes (let the heat build up from having the light on)
Turn Off Switch1 and Turn on Switch2, go up and check
If the light is on, than it's Switch2
If the light is off and the bulb is cold, than it's Switch3
If the above 2 conditions are false, than it's Switch1
The riddle could have existed for a long time, before LED Bulbs, however revealing that its about an old style bulb would probably giveaway the riddle.
for me, actually enjoyed this video so much bc of the riddle it was actually like an interactive video i was trying to beat Qt to the answer, even after seeing it with that donation i was still was searching for other options.

Better answer: Test and see if 1 switch controls a light in the room, to rule it out. Then turn one of the other two switches on and check. If no switch controls an observable room then resort to heat method of leaving 1st off turning 2nd on for a few minutes then turning 2nd back off but 3rd on and checking immediately. First answer may seem like metagaming but way more accurately reflects the way people actually behave.

My answer to the riddle was flip the switches until the light in the room you are in turns on. The eliminates 1 switch. then you switch one of the others and check the light. If it is on the boom. If it is off, then its the third switch.
Another solution to the riddle:
One of those three switches must be the switch of the light in the basement you're in at that moment. So you first find the switch that controlls the light in the basement. After you've found that switch, there are only two switches left. Now you can just simply switch on of the switches and check on the light upstairs. If the light is on, you know that that switch is the one that controlls that light, if it is not on, you know that it's the other one.

Jared can solve a riddle first try, but he doesn't know where Uganda is.
Answer to the riddle.
Step one: Turn the first switch on for a while.
Step two: Turn off the first switch.
Step three: Turn on the second switch.
Step four: Check the room.
If the lightbulb is off, but warm then it was the first switch.
If the lightbulb is on, then it's the second switch.
If it's neither warm or on then it's the third switch.
Remembered it from an old manga. Alice in Borderlands.
That is exactly what I thought, the answer for the riddle that is.
There is one more solution:
Three switches controll 3 light bulbs from the basement, but there must be light in the basement also since it got no windows, so its obvious that one of those is controlling the bulb in the basement so you need to find which one controls the one in the basement and you got 2 left just flip one on and go see if its that one, if not its the other one.
