- Francais Pour Une Nuit
10/19/2009
On July 7th of this year we were honored to perform at Arenes de Nimes, the historic Roman amphitheatre in Nimes, France, easily one of the most spectacular venues in the world. We thought it would be a memorable night, so we asked our friends in France to bring along a film crew to document the festivities. The result is "Francais Pour Une Nuit" (translation: "French For One Night"), the DVD of the evening including the full show, interviews with us, and five videos shot by YOU, our buddies in the audience. All this and more will be available starting November 23, 2009!
"Francais Pour Une Nuit" was extra special for us because not only was it filmed in France, but ALL aspects of the project are French as the show was filmed, recorded, and edited with French camera and recording crews, the artwork on the package and special box set (more on that in a minute!) were created by a French design team; even the credits are in French. The only non-French parts: the three Americans and one Dane on stage and the photos shot by Englishman Ross Halfin.
The DVD will be available in retail stores in France only, at www.metallica.com, or you may order online through the record company at www.metallicanimes.com. There will be three formats available: Standard DVD in a digipack including a 16 page booklet, Blu-Ray DVD, also in a digipack with the booklet, and the deluxe limited edition box set that includes the DVD, a copy of "Death Magnetic on CD," a Large T-shirt, laminated pass, and five exclusive photos (see it all below).
And just in case you couldn't join us that night, here is the set list: 1. Blackened
2. Creeping Death
3. Fuel
4. Harvester Of Sorrow
5. Fade To Black
6. Broken, Beat & Scarred

Nimes was one of the greatest metallica concerts in history
Hell yeah
Un Français ? :p
Rammstein was there 4 years before also one of the best concerts. It's called "Völkerball".
Wish I was there
@@Ghost-vs3du too but in 2009 i was 12 😂
The best fade to black live version ever
What bout Seattle 89 bro hard choice
@@m4tt42oblzzeee4 this one is way better.
Moscow 91 also brooo🖤
@@tgrtewte Agreed 100%
In their later years, absolutely. Just wish kirk would've played the actual solo instead of shredding through it.
To all of you who are hating on Kirk's solos and whether this solo is difficult or not:
A solo doesn't have to be insanely fast and doesn't have to be very complicated to be a great solo. This song is my evidence for what I just said.
You are probably just a bunch of jealous idiots who have nothing better to do than saying bad things about a very successful and talented musician.
Agreed. A speedy solo for the hell of it is pointless if it doesn't match the tone and mood of the song. It should always be more about the feeling of the song and helping convey that through the music rather than just to say "hay guise i'm gud at da gitarz!"
***** Exactly.
And you only have to listen to some great BB King's or Clapton's solos to understand that having an unbelievable speed on the guitar is nothing but masturbation, litterally...
Or just Guilmour's ones, just the top of the top..
Arthur Petit and you have to listen to other solos kirk does.
Probably their best live performance..
That double bass, those vocals, that godlike guitar playing.. damn
Metallica has written so many songs for eternity. And this one belongs to the greatest of all.
written for $$$$$$ only Bubba
That's beautiful my friend 🤘it's Cliff's 🤘🤘🤘
@@Scoopdoggydogg did he write the lyrics?
@@noahm.4001 He wrote it alongside James, Lars and kirk
holy mother of christ... I went to Nimes in like october 2009... and they were building a stage in the arena and I didn't know what for.. Well now I know...
french ?
I'm not French no.
+kut janus haha nederlander ik zie t wel
it says it was in july
Hmmm, I don't know why I put october in there... It was hot as fuck when I was there. Certainly not october xD
Lars was a beast here! and james' vocals were amazing!
They arent always good live but this one really suprised my
TGW Meijer that's so true.
Great concert.....I got the chills!
Claudia Keijzer do did I :)
😁😁😁
My favorite song, my favorite solo, my favorite band, i love you guys. ;_;
mine too :)
Vai tomar no seu cu
Laura Nanami sdhldhkñlhzZzzhlñvzoplczzZZzdhlññdhjkpbcclñbv
Laura Nanami true
My favorite song is Nothing else matters ❤❤, just p.e.r.f.e.c.t and the most beautiful song by Metallica
Aaarhhh, this performance was out of this world. It was full of emotion and energy alots of energy!
he only wanted that all french bastards jump into the channel after that song...^^
They're in their 50s and they can still put on some of the best shows.👍🏻
My favorite song
Sarka Encasement this and memory remains
Sarka Encasement yeah
Not trying to be a mood killer but this song literally saved my live at one point. I was in a deep depression and when I heard this song, it described everything I felt, I felt like I had no purpose and I knew there was others that felt the same way I did but it didn't feel like it, but this song made me feel it. So thank you Metallica for helping, I'm forever grateful.
Although it helped, you're not giving yourself enough credit about going through that. I mean, it's YOU who had the courage to struggle on.
Hopefully 8 years on and you're doing even better 🤙
Why are people saying bad things about the solo? He didn't mess it up at the end, it's called improvisation. It happens when you're having fun.
Wabi Sabi playing the same solo for how many times. even tho its his to begin with. could do whatever he pleases. thats only my suggestion haha
EXAAACLTY
I was at this concert, and believe me, Kirk screwed up almost all his solos, this one included. Then they re-recorded the solo parts for this dvd. When you heard the "real" concert, it's obvious... Although was a very great concert in an awesome location (Nimes Antic Arena)
Man that solo is truly amazing.
The last solo gets me everytime , it gives me goose bumps all over my body
especially when all the crowd starts singing with James oooh-ohhh-ohhh and that around 5:35
I can play every solos in this song (not like hammet)
Im 12
crybaby u need a medal?
EVA Madness i also feel the same about that last solo since when i heard it. i think it was 1990 or something like that. A heavy metal solo must be a part of the song and this solo definitely is. what i dont understand is why kirk doesnt play the original solo ever, at least he must play something that is resembling the original one. unfortunately i am stopping the video when he stars soloing :(
EVA Madness I think the rhythm section does a great job opening the song for kirk.
I love Metallica, i listen to Metallica since i was 6 when Black album came out.. as a kid i used to spend like 2 hours on a saturday afternoon listening to Live Shit: Binge & Purge on my sofa thinking about my future, i can never get enough of listening to them. They just make sense! God bless Metallica
Calmate!
haters are gna hate,, i wish i coulp play the guitar like kirk
Why people says Lar sucks...I think he did more than a decent job here
+吳文誠 Haters gonna hate
True very true
He did more than just a decent job. He did a awesome job!
+吳文誠 I'm not a drummer, but Lars totally did more than a decent job from the way I see it.
overdubbed :)
Well , that was kinda fantastic .
Anthony Hings kinda?
Some people are never satisfied . Alright then . It was fucking brilliant !!!!
+Anthony Hings good
The dynamics in this song are very good.
At around 3:10, James looks up to the sky. Maybe thinking of Cliff?
I like to think that
For some reason, I don't believe they can actually get through an entire concert, without one of them thinking about Cliff, even just slightly. Fastest bass player they ever had. The orchestra idea came from Cliff. (S and M.)
Do you mean Jason Newstead ?
Alwan Rosyidi no, Cliff always liked classical music and wrote many of the songs around some classical melodies. He was trained in music theory and always wanted to do a concert with a symphony. Too bad he passed before S&M, he would've loved it. Jason played in S&M though, is that what you're thinking?
Maybe
James makes it all look so easy the absolute god
The last outro solo 5:29 -- .. is the best outro ever , gets me inside a hurricane of emotions every time i hear it or watch it live , it's beyond explanation , pure genius
The double pedal was perfect
Ethan Harris which one?
Ethan Harris 5 five later, still the best comment here.
the Best band in the world metallica for life
i really like metallica but i think guns n roses are the best band in the world
In your dream Guns n roses ?
My Favourite Live Concert of MetallicA❤️
Fade To BlacK🔥🔥🔥
yes brother. Fade to black.....my favourite song of all songs and this is the best version :-)
One of, if not the best live shows ever. They were so "ON" for this show. No words can do this performance any justice. Thank you, guys.
This song saved my life, thanks Metallica. Your best song, one of the best song ever, simple is that.
This video 7 years ago proved HD was the superior format. We take so much for granted now.
metallica forever
Moreno Meneghello oooooooooo yeeesss
Lars ulrich still my favorite drummer of all time
I feel sorry for you
Nice dude! If you want to play metal he is a really fair pick, and its your opinion and I respect it. ROCK ON!
Vinnie Colaiuta left the Chat.
@@noahm.4001 This is called "opinions"...
One of the greatest concerts of all time.
Is this really a live show? I mean, James sings this song 10 times better than in any other live here on RUclips. I'm confused.
There are a few songs that really fits his voice how it is nowadays. For example Fade To Black, its not very heavy and mostly soft voice. But when it comes to Shortest Straw, Don´t Thread On Me and stuff like that, a soft voice isn´t really what we want to hear, at least that´s what I think.. I personally liked his voice how it was back in the day in around 85-89 more than I like his current voice..
Guess all of the "Yeah"s and screaming really damaged his voice real bad, huh.
***** He does sing differently nowadays, but I'd say fom 2007 his voice got way better again. 1996 until 2006 or so was his worst time.
he kicked ass in this song
don't be so judgemental your voice would be different to
By the way
The guitar Mr. Hammett plays here, is one of the most expensive ever made.
Stefan der Sechzehnte Its not like Mr. Ripper is gonna play some chinese rip off of Gibson...
what do you mean exactly?
It's a '68 Les Paul Custom.
Stefan der Sechzehnte If im not wrong it used to be owned by Gary Moore...
No this one is not gary moore les paul... it has flamed maple finish
I find it utterly absurd that Internet has become a tool for Metallica "fans", to pour some senseless hating on every, and I mean effing every, live performance of the past fifteen years.
Is that a logical process? Be good, get famous, work your arse off for 30+ years, then get criticized by every bragging know-it-all guitar-hero-wanabe in the world?
You, sir, have made my faith in intelligent life back.
20,ckd,x9
after 30 years of marriage you can't do your wife like first year :) , after 30 years in music they can't do as they did in 1980's
Hey... they've also changes as individuals, they've gotten more mature over the last 30 years, hell I've been a fan the last 30 years and matured along with them... I'm deeply impressed by their performance, and to me they're just as great as they've always been. The music has just matured along with them and us old fans, today they sound more like the music comes from deep inside, because of 30 years of more life experience... it has been a natural development, and it suits them ;-)
muamer vrabac Some Kind of Monster..
these guys are and will always be the fucking gods of the universe
Best live version, I’ll die on that
Hill
One of the BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE I've eveeeeeeeeeeer seeen!!!!! ♠♠♠♠♥♠♠♠
I just can't ever imagine getting tired of this song.
hey do u still like it after 10 years?
the way they end this song sends me chills every time.
This is my favorite live performance of this song.
Best live version.... actually whole concert in Nimes
Life, it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone
No one but me can save myself, but it's too late
Now I can't think, think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye
This is the best version of this song I've seen so far. Love love love this. I've been loving it for over 30 years, now.
Probably the best live performance ever
Awesome band.....seen this vid about 50 times
Rock on Metallica:)
Quel groupe légendaire !! :)
InFiniTy 😂
The best of the best right here. Great performance!!!
Awesome message!!! Awesome music!!!Tks!!!
Fucking fantastic. One of their best tunes for sure, and this is a great live version
For the ones who say "Lars can't play double bass"!
I must have seen this video dozens and dozens of times and I never get tired of it.
Such a badass fucking song.
I come back to watch this video daily it's nothing short of spectacular
os caras do Metallica sempre dão um show
Magnifique interprétation de cette superbe chanson. Et la la voix de JAMES HEITFELD mélodieuse et rock .
deux vrai groupe on jouer dans ce type de monument à des années oposées les Who et métalica
No manchen James Jetfield hace caras de Andrea Torre
The intro is simply amazing leaves me speechless could hear it play in a loop all day
One of The best songs ever
My grandfather died today. Love you.
For me, as I can remember, this is Kirk's best solo performance on this song. The combination of the variation of Kirks solo and the double bass of Lars sounds bad ass. Maybe Kirk would sound better on passive Pickups, but all in all I like it :)
Cavolo...quanti ricordi...mi sono commossa❤❤
Last year I went with my 25 year old son to the Metallica concert in Zurich/Switzerland. What a great day in my life.
The greatest fade to black live evar!!!!
A song they performed in their 20s and still sounds amazing
a masterpiece of instrumental talent!!
No dejaría de escuchar esta canción por cualquier cosa que pase en este momento lml x siempre metallica
Isto não é uma música, é uma palestra. Esses caras são fodas.
Does anyone else get emotional towards the end? I swear man Kirk's solo gets me every single time. Maybe because the minor key its in 😂😭😭😭
Can't wait to see them!!
This song never fade in my soul.... Great masterpiece by metallica...
they are best band ever to performed live on stage...perfect...damn good
ISA TARMIZI ac dc live at riverplate
Merry X-mas everyone I dont care what day of the year it is Metallica will always be played.
these guys *will* make it to 2023 and beyond.....having met them all in various places, stages in life (not fan meet n greets) ........ they all, having been through so much shit individually and as a band - should not even exist - and each of them is ready and willing to admit as such - but then that brings it back that they *should* exist because they are still here, James' voice is back, Lara' drumming has improved.....I could go on and on.....
Wow!!!! So much Emotion in that song! Love the Electric Guitar solo Parts... Just Bad Ass Sound!!!!
This song saved my life 2 times this song.. this song made me avoid kill myself almost 2 times, i have 3 tattoos of metallica and my name appears on the credits of his book kill em all and master of puppets, i love metallica since 5 years old dude.. i'm 23
One of the best concert of metallica although energy was not that huge
You goddamn right ! ^^
Well, Live Shit concerts were pretty good too. There was much more energy than this one.
Sick concert but in my opinion, 89' Seattle was the best Metallica concert! I was only 5 at the time but grew up listening to Metallica and 89' Seattle, the energy, sound at Metallica in their prime! Fk woulda been sick to be at that one!!
batuhan karakoç agacım buraya gelseler nasıl olur kim bilir
kanka moskova konseri bence daha iyi
man...this song is so good..i got goosebumps.
get tears in my eyez everytime I take a listen to this song. No words can express how much great this song is and forever will be!
Thank you Kirk for this master piece .... das Solo am Anfang.... genial

Increíble canción, SUPER concierto. LOS MEJORES Metallica
Pause at 6:40 for best photo!
You're welcome
Great version of this song!
One of my best metallica live concerts if not the best.
Kirk had to do surgery past year of 2014.. His fingers sometimes dont responde because of the nerves... Respect to Kikr, and all of them... Kicking ass since 1983 ! Metallica is an example !!
me gusta esta musica
AMAZING
Simply WONDERFUL!!!
This song means so much to me that I had it tattooed on my forearm
The whole lyrics or the name of the song? XD
How ?
You know that the song is about suicide right?
play a show on a place like this is metal as fuck.... Black Sabbath would look amazing performing here also.....
your good
+itkojecockot rammstein played there in 2005, damn it's one hell of a concert
One of the best songs...so lyrical and so melodic as well as powerful.
