Definitely learned a lot from this video!! I killed some of my seedlings due to overwatering, now I know better!! Thanks for great info on these videos. Love them!
bt is a god send! checked on my seedlings this morning and found two dead caterpillars on my baby brasicas. so glad i sprayed them with some left over bt recently. gg great video
Mine keep getting leaf miner here in 8b (bok choy, cucumber and cherry tomatoes). Every time I use neem/ soap or something natural spray, it kills my little plants. I also just cut the leaf off. But plants look so naked.
Yeah, life miners are tricky. Got to get them just at the right time. You can always squish them, but that can take up a lot of time. Covering your plants may be the best option
Biggest issue here, at least for me, Los Angeles area. Pillbugs (roly poly) and Earwigs. They DEVASTATE seedlings. Seem to be particularly fond of pepper seedlings too. But they are brutal. They'll even eat the seeds in the ground for stuff that we plant direct. Cabbage moths and loopers don't come into play much here until the plant is more established. YMMV and all of that.
It's not a huge problem (until you use that compost and move the bugs to where your plants are), but it may indicate a low temperature for your compost: ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm
Ugh most of my garden was shredded by Ian but the eggplants r coming back I'm out there trying to tie up and I find white bug? Crushed it n a cabbage Looper? Squashed it too n found white goop which I assume is aphid? On eggplant? Question: I looked at your description for your merch ( love the tank) where to get it? Thx
Oh man. I hope you and your loved ones are all safe! Any chance you have a photo of the bug? Get yours here! sandiegoseedcompany.com/product/tools-and-merchandise/straight-outta-compost-womens-tanks/

Yes, those two are killers for seedlings and a big reason why we don't direct sow much
do you strictly bottom water?
I'll use a hose on a super gentle setting or even use a watering can too sometimes

I just sifted my compost and there are TONNES of pincher bugs. Is this a problem? What do I do?
