You are dead on about that drop. They told him they'd drop him on 3, they let go on one. They made sure that was the last shot they needed with Rickman. He did not speak to the director again for years.
This was actually Rickman's first movie. He'd been a stage actor prior to this. It took some convincing to get him to play the role. He was hesitant about his first movie role being a villain in an action flick.
You really need to watch more 80s films. It was a great decade for movies. Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Trading Places, Coming to America, Beverly Hills Cop, The Terminator, just to name a few.

That was his first movie role! That’s even more impressive! I have seen some of the 80s movies you mentioned like Coming to America but I might have to do a 80s month on this channel now.

Flying from NYC to California, John McClane finds this song: ruclips.net/video/wYHleFFhlFk/видео.html 9:39 Roll film. 10:14 "Die Hard" was Alan Rickman's first Hollywood movie, so he will always be "Hans Gruber" to me. ("Snape"? I don't do Witch/Wizard/Goblin movies.) 10:30 OK, but: ruclips.net/video/7QzjGDHZw60/видео.html 11:27 Back to the Christmas Party From Hell. 11:53 This conversation shows that John and Argyle are "working class" guys. 13:21 Ellis doesn't DRINK Coke. Breakout roles for Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman. John McClane isn't a muscle-bound "Rambo clone," takes damage, has moments of fear/doubt/introspection, and is "dead man walking" by the last quarter of the movie. Hans Gruber is a cool/sneering/intelligent/resourceful European Bad Guy like no other. 27:45 John MClane is the OPPOSITE of a "Mary Sue." He uses what he's got, which isn't much, to tie the bad guys in knots, from needling Hans Gruber over the radio to dropping an improvised explosive device on the rocket launching crew. I've read that he was a U.S. Marine before pinning on the tin star. (He's revealed to be a fan of CCR's "Fortunate Son" in a later "Die Hard" movie.) It's no wonder that we, the audience, see ourselves in him.;) "Old movies" can surprise you. This was a 1973 TV Movie: ruclips.net/video/xYQoSlHDN48/видео.html

Let me tell you something about the late great Alan Rickman and this movie. Former stage actor Rickman didn't like action movies, so he really wasn't keen on the idea to make his movie debut in such a movie - this movie. What finally convinced him wasn't money (every actor but Bruce Willis was working for peanuts in this movie), but how much he appreciated that every character of color, good or evil, was portrayed as an interesting and intelligent individual. Alan Rickman was "woke" long before such a term even existed: not only an amazing actor, but also an amazing man.

And, by all means, also watch "Die hard 2". Another Christmas movie of sorts, another clever action masterpiece. The remaining three installments of the franchise are "Die hard" movies only by name: stupid, derivative and with a John McClane not even remotely reminiscent of John McClane. So they are not recommended. But, the second one is another must-see.

The drop is what exactly happened, the director told Alan they was gonna drop him at 3 and the director did it at 2.
