A cast that befitted this battle. Really insightful commentary, I didn't even realize the purpose of the staggered formation! Thanks again for casting this, was a pleasure to play and to watch.
WOLFTotalWar I think you should have let your final cavalry unit just reform properly at the end, I feel like you could have won, that said, your performance in the battles I have seen you play in was inspiring.
You probably dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Augustus Michael thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Blademaster did extremely well to get that far. He was patient throughout but in my opinion, lost his patience right at the end (which can happen a lot after a long, precise, micro-intensive and patient battle). GG really
WOLFTotalWar You did better than I would have and it was pretty impressive. Hard not to root for you in that match up but great game to both you and Iraklis. I wish Heir put up one of my battles ;) I have a 3v3 as Carthage where I get 2v1'd by Suebi and Rome!
That strategy of "leaving" extra arrows somewhere was one of the strategies that nations with horse archers actually used. A great example is the Battle of Carrhae. The Parhians encircled the Roman protective square with horse archers that rode around it shooting. Crassus was waiting for them to use all of their arrows to make a move... aaaand the horse archers just retreated for five minutes to a bunch of supply wagons they had nearby to get more arrows. Crassus died. His legions died. Big surprise.
The Mongolian hordes actually used similar tactics to what you described as a potential fix for horse archers. Each warrior had several horses so when their mount got tired the could, retreat back to their camp, get a fresh horse, pickup more ammunition and get right back into the thick of it. Mongolians op op
damn, HEIR ! pls don't stop bringing on rome 2-battle-replays, I FREAKING LOVE THEM :D ps: in my oppionion, you are the very most sympathic youtuber in the world :D
Am I the only one getting the Red Lobster ad before the video? If not does it not sound like he says "I am going to crap like no one is watching!" I know he says "crack" but we all hear what we want to.
2 years later I'm going to tell you even I use adblock. If youtube is serious about wanting people to see ads and make revenue between creator and sponsor, they will find a way to get around adblock or make a deal with them.
Love that you are bringing back some Rome II content. Much better game-play than Attila in my opinion. The tournament replays are some of my favorite stuff on your channel.
Jesus, the micro blade master used for this game just blows my mind... Of course it would be much different irl but I think if the high ranking players of Total War had been alive and this skilled in in this time period they could conquer a large portion of the world!
From what I read about the steppe factions (which is not much) they had quivers that were able to hold up to 75 arrows. Im not saying that it should be exactly like that in the game, but if they had a massive amount of ammo (maybe double of what the foot archers have) they would be more up to par with the other factions. And if you wanted to counter them there are always slingers that can do it.
Would have been detrimental-Draco removes bracing, so it would be close to useless, what's more, in square, loose units of Triarii wouldn't chase after my retreating cavalry and get kills.
WOLFTotalWar I didn't know Draco impacts bracing. Also definitely true that cavalry disengaging from squares would take fewer losses. If he would have squared up on the hill in the woods it would have sucked bad for you I think. You did well. I wouldn't have come so close to victory. I have counter picked nomads in match making with builds along the same lines as the one Iraklis used and usually the nomad player rage quits. I just have bad luck getting good nomad match ups.
They need a 33-50% more ammo, and a slight boost to their accuracy. 150 range also would be good if they don't already have it; they were using compound bows after all and had used them all their lives. Maybe something like the swooping crane formation from Shogun 2, which increased accuracy? I'd give them a penalty to Melee attack and defense in compensation for it. Having effective horse archers would encourage factions that have light cavalry to bring it to catch the horse archers, which would make for an interesting dynamic at army selection.
I feel like the romans would have benefited from actually taking a more dense formation, possibly with some square formations on the spears. As it stood, the charge of the heavy cavalry would often knock down an entire unit, making it very difficult for the spearmen to get kills. Moreover, the swordsmen where often too far away to get their javelins off in time. Lastly, having his units closer together would have prevented, or at least mitigated, the ability of the cavalry to isolate smaller groups of romans.
I think one of iraklis' mistakes was that he setup in a hole in the open rather than one of the forested hills, still minor though and very nice match.
The Parthians always had a supply chain near their armies. During the battles, horsemen would ride up and retrieve more arrows and lances, effectively giving them infinite ammo.
The Avenger at Ilipa Pretty much all army have to form supply chains. The Romans excelled in logistics during the ancient time compared to most other kingdoms/empires. For example, Parthia (like most others) have to reserve vast amount of pack animals to carry supplies during times of war. If the enemy were able to take or chased away the animals away, Parthia supply chain will greatly suffer or even cut off. In effect, their supply chain are usually temporary during warfare. The Romans, however, often opt for long term supply chains. They built roads while advancing to make it easier to transport men and supplies to the front. They also built earth forts to defend the roads and act as supply depot as well as rest stops. They even did this while engaging the enemy. One of the reasons why the Roman Empire was able to defend multiple fronts for centuries while fielding mainly infantry based armies. In fact, no one would match the Roman abilities to establish logistics infrastructures while in battle until the US in WW2. The US had specialized engineers who would built/repaired airfields, roads, and bridges while under artillery fire in battles such as Iwo Jima, Saipan, and etc. The US military carried on this traditions to this day. One of the reasons why the US military is considered the best in the world. Our European allies many claim or do to have better units than the US, but they couldn't even dream to match the US logistic capabilities. The French had to request help from US transport planes and air tankers to supply their troops in Mali.
The Avenger at Ilipa Oh, infinite ammo usually works unless you faced heavily armored Germanic axemen. During the Battle of Beroia, the Byzantine had trouble defeating the Pecheneg horse archers. The Pechenegs were surrounded but they had a massive supply in their defensive wagon fort. It took a lot of men and time before the Byzantine could forced the Pechenegs into their fort. However, the Byzantine regular soldiers couldn't overcome the fort. Emperor John II was forced to led his elite Varangian Guard (hired Germanic soldiers) into battle even though the Pechenegs outnumbered them. With their distinctive two handed axes, they hacked their way into the fort and completely slaughter/massacre the Pechenegs. Any remaining Pechenegs were taken captive and forcibly assimilated to Byzantine culture.
a mongolian horsearcher had 2-3 bows and 60-90 arrows with him... and btw. their cantabrian circle was actually usefull... also horsearchers usually had bows with longer range then footarchers ironically
They need to increase the ammo on HA in this game. I always feel like I am making a subpar choice when selecting them because I know that they will get rekt by infantry. You can effectively deal with cavalry with them, but they were supposed to be the bane of infantry. They simply don't have enough arrows or enough men to make them viable against infantry, and the number of units with precursor javs means that there is a great deal of micro that you need to develop to use them effectively.
Towers in sieges should have to be manned, if by ranged they have a significant increase to ranged capabilities. If they aren't manned they don't fire at all.
I'd be great if you focused on the gameplay instead of blabbering about horse archers or something. You should do a "Heir's adjustments" video where you go through everything you want to change in Rome 2.
Blademaster lives up to his name, a really skillful player.
A cast that befitted this battle. Really insightful commentary, I didn't even realize the purpose of the staggered formation! Thanks again for casting this, was a pleasure to play and to watch.
Haha nice loss noob
memccann lol zing. No mercy for the Blademaster.
WOLFTotalWar I think you should have let your final cavalry unit just reform properly at the end, I feel like you could have won, that said, your performance in the battles I have seen you play in was inspiring.
monkeytrollu Thanks, yes I absolutely should have. At the end of a 40 minute game with a bit of lag though...I was too tired to think straight.
WOLFTotalWar Yeah, happens to the best of us.
This is probably the most skillful display of how to play a nomadic faction I've ever seen
You probably dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?

@Keaton Fletcher Instablaster ;)
@Augustus Michael thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now.

@Augustus Michael it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out!
@Keaton Fletcher Glad I could help :D
Absolutely masterful battle from Blademaster.
Thanks bud :))
His amazon riders charging are like a saka feathers against a brick wall.
beautiful, surgical action from Blademaster. man. and the unut ban format is great, makes for unique battles.
Top battle, hats off to both men
Cheers old chap
Blademaster did extremely well to get that far. He was patient throughout but in my opinion, lost his patience right at the end (which can happen a lot after a long, precise, micro-intensive and patient battle). GG really
Youre right, if I had waited for Draco to reload, things could have been different.

Send it over to wolfofremustw at gmail dot com
Just sent it now :)
I sometimes lose my patience before a battle even starts :)

Hmm I always get the marvel superheroes ad but that's pretty funny lol
HeirofCarthage i would like to know who craps like people are watching
HeirofCarthage Ad block >:)
KingDavidPlayz lol. You know with adblock heir doesnt get any money from the videos right? And youre commenting on a comment made by him
2 years later I'm going to tell you even I use adblock. If youtube is serious about wanting people to see ads and make revenue between creator and sponsor, they will find a way to get around adblock or make a deal with them.
Great at commentating Heir! I really liked both of their matches! It's nice to see some adept players going head to head!
Love that you are bringing back some Rome II content. Much better game-play than Attila in my opinion. The tournament replays are some of my favorite stuff on your channel.
This was a super fun battle to watch! Blademaster is now my hero...
Wow! Such a Masterful match and outstanding analysis.
So much fun These Rome 2 vids Heir.
Jesus, the micro blade master used for this game just blows my mind... Of course it would be much different irl but I think if the high ranking players of Total War had been alive and this skilled in in this time period they could conquer a large portion of the world!
Brendan Kay Someone needs to write this up in a book. Cheesy time travel with TW players helping generals in the ancient world.
They would not have overhead views and stats like that irl
thats some nonsense. doesnt translate to reality at all.
one of the most exciting matches i've seen! amazing players both of them
Great use of cavalry. General unit was rocking in this match =)
an awesome battle from both. someone give them cookies please!
Cookies for all!

Sesame Street....oh the simpler days. Lol, great match, and great commentary!
Lol thanks!

I swear when you brought up Rome 1 Horse Archers it brought out some latent PTSD in me.
Lol it does for all of us. ;)

Can you show a game with rome using gladiators (not spearmen) or are they just useless unit???
No doubt one of the best battle ever fought.
Can't see the men fighting. Sometimes.
oh man great game!
I think one of iraklis' mistakes was that he setup in a hole in the open rather than one of the forested hills, still minor though and very nice match.
This match makes me miss the Parthian and Scythian campaigns.
The Parthians always had a supply chain near their armies. During the battles, horsemen would ride up and retrieve more arrows and lances, effectively giving them infinite ammo.

Amazing use of cav

Your bang on . The other factions need to have a advantage on some thing.

Instead of the hastatii i just would have brought Veletes or something.
Would have made more sense considering the strategy the roman was going for.
the bracing and mass systems in rome 2 and attila are a very nice addition to the franchise, though there are many things these games do wrong
It's 9:30am at my place :D Good morning everyone :))
12Hannibal21 4:00 am morning!
12Hannibal21 11:17AM Morning! :D
12Hannibal21 9:41 in the UK right now! You must be on the continent?
12Hannibal21 12:28 in Bodrum
12Hannibal21 Everyone is from Europe it seems
Towers in sieges should have to be manned, if by ranged they have a significant increase to ranged capabilities. If they aren't manned they don't fire at all.
More videos of blade master. He is goat
Wow, what a crazy match
Damnit heir just watched this on wolfs channel
blademaster is a fucking beast
If blade master won that i would've fucking found where he lives, kick his front door in and bow down to him.
Since i almost won, I guess you're going to have to find out where I live and carefully open the door and leave..
WOLFTotalWar aight ill be there at around 10
another rome 2 online battle, now thats what im talking about
I agree the steppe factions need more ammo.
A few crap infantry would be great too.
For me definitely a yes to both the things you mentioned.
Children of RUclips? is that like 'Children of the corn'? lol
That is one ridiculous looking formation by the Romans, LOL!
rooting for blademaster the whole
Time
Heir, are you going to play Warhammer?
HeirofCarthage, father of RUclips.
Controlling a army is so difficult
Syrian archers and Balearic slingers have no place in a fair battle to begin with...
My OCPD (obsessive compulsive personality disorder) cringed the entire time since your view was slightly tilted on the map view
Rutger Sjoerts And most of the time it's a joke and you're just too stupid to realize it. My OCD triggers when I see comments like yours. Hehe.
give the nomadic factions 2X to 3X the amount of ammo for horse archers and all 150 range..... easy fix
hermanPla And thine line inf must be stomped into the gound by cav.... like in attila
I'd be great if you focused on the gameplay instead of blabbering about horse archers or something. You should do a "Heir's adjustments" video where you go through everything you want to change in Rome 2.
My thing reads 2 views,8 likes. Seems legit
blademaster??? more like swagmaster or better yet mlgcavmaster!
From the socnd I saw the armies I knew the outcome. Rome II is still as unbalanced, and it's been... 6 years.
No dislikes yet! JINX!
Early. Again.
Same haha 2nd comment
first
o meh gawd blade master, the heavens bestowed such skills on u
