- In case you missed it, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had an extended gameplay showing at Sony's recent State of Play. We got to see the co-op and more of the combat, which I dubbed “a whole lot of jumping and shooting.” Coming from the developer behind the Batman: Arkham series, it was confusing at best and underwhelming at worst. Not only was this three months before its worldwide launch, but the last major news drop was that Kevin Conroy would reprise Batman in his final performance.
If the gameplay showcase wasn't bad enough, Rocksteady released a behind-the-scenes video, showcasing everything fans didn't want to see. A Battle Pass, an in-game store with microtransactions, a live-service approach, loot and Gear Score systems - the hits just kept coming. There would also be post-launch content updates that would add new playable characters for free. All this for $70 and no loot boxes. How could people not celebrate?

Doesn't matter if the game is delayed, if they mess Kevin Conroy's last farewell to his fans, not only will the studio lose their fanbase significantly but also their reuptation.
They already screwed Kevin Conway. The game literally is online only and after a year or so you can't even play it... ever! Smh

I still maintained they should’ve never ever made suicide squad kills the justice league into a live service game because it sounded like a bad idea from the start.

If they all had unique gameplay, playstyles and weapons and no live service, co-op and battlepass shit, it could be a decent game. But still you ask yourself after every Suicide Squad film flopped hard and even these movies released years ago - why Warner thought that it would be a good idea to make this game after that. Nobody is really interested in the Suicide Squad. Isn't there something more popular like the Justice League...?
Games as a service is wasting talent and burning devs out. Its more of a problem than anything...
Suicide Squad really should've been something like Guardians of the Galaxy instead, while keeping the the best of the world and game structure of their Batman games. A bit of open world, a bit of levels, a bit of vehicle, stuff like that. Then adding huge bombastic Boss fight with the Justice League or whatever.
Something that played to the strength of the property and to the strength of the Developer.

This game would have been better if it was something like Gotham Knights but with significantly different gameplay mechanics for each Squad member.
Live service on any type of game instantly makes it shit. The devs are incentivised to nickel and dime the players, and offer less substance for more money and time.
They could have gone so many different ways with the mechanics and gameplay. Live-service is the laziest and scummiest way to make a game.
Destiny seems to be the only live service game still running steady, but that too has its share of problems.

King Shark and Harley would be close range melee, one fast and agile and one a tank/bruiser. Shit ain't rocket science. Would love to have HQ pull out the large hammer, the big boxing glove, etc. in combos. Hell, even DCU Online has that.
Crazy that Guardians of the Galaxy turned out to be the best of these group based superhero games (Avengers, Gotham Knights, and Suicide Squad being the others) while also being the least marketed. Guardians worked because they focused on story, gameplay, and characters instead of monetization.
Where did Gotham Knights not focus on any of these things?

It's really not a bad looking game. My problem with it is it being live service. Keep in mind I'm a 99% single player just bc I prefer doing my own thing and I can always go back and play them. Live service games you never know when they are going to end and once they do you can't play them anymore. Only games I play that are life service are For Honor and FFXIV (if you would consider MMORPGs LS). They are already adding more offline functions to FFXIV and that's something I've always wanted For Honor to have when it does actually end so players that have spent so much time (and possibly money) can still play. Now I will say if companies are going to make LS games then they really just need to be free to play with the option to my cosmetics, premium BP, etc.
The problem in this case is the expectation based on these developers previous titles. If this game was put out by Digital Extremes or Gaijin Entertainment then sure the game looks kinda ok. But people were expecting the spiritual successor to the Arkham games. This ain't it.

Instead of giving us gameplay that was in the essence of these characters, like how the Arkham games make you feel like Batman, we got a generic looter, shooting purple spots on everything. WTF!?
What I find interesting is that the developers know what gamers like and dislike. So they felt making a similar game to Avengers and they are wondering why the backlash. It's disheartening the number of opportunities developers get.
It's likely WB that was pushing the games as a service approach...not the devs.

But, GK flopped too. So, WB Games probably just said "fuck it. Put it out as is".
It’s not the developers. WB wanted this live service BS, and Rocksteady was unfortunately hired to make it.
Not the Devs. WB has started making it so that all its future games will focus heavily on Live Service. It was revealed on some job postings awhile ago.

Super heroes are all about unique gameplay. When you just put a gun on every hero, there goes their uniqueness.
At least Avengers had a lot of unique feature between the characters. All of them had tons of different moves. Even the two archers are different

Each of those characters had multiple skill trees too! There's a lot they put in that game that I think gets overshadowed by the horrors of the endgame live service.

This game NEEDS a total rework no one wants a live service menu cluddered boring game where EVERY character basically plays the same way and the fact all it is was shooting jumping and shoot purple weak points.
I love co-op, but companies think that making a co-op game equals live service...
Right, transformers war for cybertron was a great game with a co-op story and fun addicting competitive pvp.

After what we saw with Avengers and Gotham Knights I don’t have a lot of hope for this game. Superheroes just aren’t cut out for the live service loot grind.
maybe if the heroes aren't already well known, pre existing. DCU online is an MMO, which is basically a loot grind game by default. But, you play as a custom made hero. And, the game is still going over 10 years later.
Why are people saying Gotham Knights is a live service game?
@@VGFightSchool Not is, but was gonna be. As soon as the 1st gameplay video was released, people were saying it had all the makings of a live service game - loot drop, health bar, damage number pop-ups, co-op, etc.
So, the theory was that it was going live service; it looked like The Avengers. And now, with SS: KtJL also doing the same thing, and being from the same publisher, it's being taken as confirmation that both games would've been live service.

🤦🏽♂️ I really really wanted a Marvel fighting game along the lines of Tekken or Mortal Kombat but these damn developers have me hoping it doesn’t happen . I had Suicide Squad on pre- order until I heard it was live service and got my $$$$ back quick 🤷🏽♂️.

I don’t think they will cancel it outright. All the time and money they’ve already bled into it. Rocksteady is going to try to recoup some losses.

Yeah, but the gameplay in that game was actually good. This looks horrendous. Floating and flying around the city (instead of driving/running which would make more sense) and shooting at purple weakspots. Anthem 2.0.

How often do people play single player games. Once you beat it you put it away when there is nothing else to do. I can play the Arkam games and Spider-Man back to back and never get bored. Can’t say same for everyone else
This is a straight up tragedy.. the story looks incredible, but the combat is just trash.. I'm glad we got plenty of previews, because I was stoked on what this should have been.. I even plat'd Asylum, City, and Knight just to get hyped.. at least Resi 4 Remake won't disappoint
Does the delay even matter? Rocksteady has made another live service sh$t show, an Avengers, Anthem, Div, etc... clone that has already more red flags then we can count. WB games let them make their dream game, A open world single player action/adv Superman game set in the Arkham universe. Live service games are just a cash grab with no quality gaming experience.

Hell, even Anthem pulled that part off (making the playstyles different and feel class specific), and they made the game in less than 2 years.

Well this game was maybe linear but those mechanics were something new and the short lenght was awesome for speedruns and replayability. We all saw what happend if you add an open world into this unique gameplay with catalyst.
what i want to say is,that dead island 2 reminds me of mirrors edge and the ps3 ära.
Back when games had just 1 mechanic (and didnt try to make everyone happy,like todays games from sony and ubisoft,ea,activison etc) but Really mastered that mechanic and became masterpieces or even a new genre like castlevania,max payne or portal.
with other words Dead island 2 is linear,has multiple ways how to solve those linear levels,focuses on 1 mechanic but also throws in 6 characters who are unique for replayability.

Gameplay is the same for all characters.... point & shoot with almost the same weapon without any variation.
I was really looking forward to this, until that showcase. The cutscenes still look good, but I can just watch those on RUclips.

Personally I'm tired of superhero content. Between movies and games. It's great for the fans but I need a unique story behind them. Instead it's the typical hero/villain or prodigal son arch. I've seen enough.

I really hope they keep it delayed til they strip out all the money grabbing nonsense. Everyone was excited for this game, right up until they saw it. The Kings of the single player DC game experience look like average chumps with this proposed offering, and you just know it's not the devs idea. Even the gameplay looks like any other multiplayer game destined to have the plug pulled within 2 years. It's a major disappointment, possibly the biggest in gaming this year should they continue to push it as is.
From the legendary Arkham Series to this ! To a game tryna compete with freaking FORTNITE .
