  • How to lay out a bell dormer using geometry. This is a cool method to lay out a bell profile with symmetrical curves. I took this method from something civil engineers use to connect two parallel roads. I believe there is an Ogee corner profile that millwrights might use as well. Anyway, hope this helps. Bellow are as the links to other videos that helped me, which are a bit more technical.

No shit you're a fellow Michigander? I've been framing in macomb (amongst other places) county for over 20 years. Excited to find a carpenter on RUclips who is worth watching. We do a bunch of curved stuff too, cones, swoopes, arched dormers etc. Love it. These houses just keep getting bigger and bigger man. Last 3 houses were 8.5k , 6.5k, and 7k foot.

@@Redoakcarpentry Thank you for responding back. Which two books would you consider the best that you use for your work? I guess my question would be which books do you consider the most helpful for the videos you post such as the eyebrow video?

@@stefboulas sim ayers holy grail of roof carpentry is the most informative but also the most difficult. If you get that book you’ll understand roof geometry on a deep level. A roof cutters secrets by will Holiday is a great resource and a bit more accessible, but also doesn’t really acknowledge the utility of a construction calculator. Much of the math in that book is replaced by a construction calculator. But all the concepts are still valid.

I can’t find these books nowhere. I see it’s a two volume series but can you please let me know where I can buy them?
