Quick update, the 15" MBP will not fit in the 350 version :( Anyways, Lowepro has the 450 and the new Freeline as well that can fit! :) Hope this helps guys!
too bad, I would love to have a small back pack and carry my 15" Omen with my Camera gear.
Question: do you think 2 x 15" laptops would fit in the 450 version?
Mike Wat my 15 inch fits in there..
MariNate which one 15” do you have? I have 15” with tb will it fit?
@@MariNate1016 you think a Dell XPS 15 will fit? its about 1/4 longer than a MBP
Good review! But next time please could you wear something lighter or anything but black when reviewing a black backpack? Or add more lights! I think your room is too dark. I had to pause & rewind multiple times to see if the backpack looked small or large whilst you were wearing it. Thanks!
+Ice S Duly noted, thanks for letting me know!
Could not see a bloody thing, dark room, dark clothes and dark backpack. Thorough review but can’t see shit.
I love photography bag videos having made a few myself. Lowepro make some great bags I still use my fastpack 250 it's solid bag for mid sized shoot.
I think this channel is still underrated, you my friend need someone to shout out for you. You deserve more because you provide a good content. keep it going Mike, one day you will get there :)
+Jalal جلال Thanks a lot buddy, I will definitely look into that! I’m sure we’re going to get more views in 2019 when I start unloading more consistently! :)
@@MikeWat its 2020 still waiting for content!
The bright orange logo presence on the bag is like a walking advertisement to anyone looking to steal camera gear. I've always put black tape over logos that ID my bag as a camera bag in such an obvious way. That, plus the quick access panel on the lower side, really drop the security score on this, in my opinion
Just got mine today, loving it tbh. The 15 inch MacBook does fit, though. I can put my 2017 in there easily. Makes carrying my gear fun just trying to find out how to get the tripod carry straps on
MariNate thanks for this 🙌
I bought my BP 350 AW II after watching this great review, keep it up man!
Really glad it helped buddy! 😃 Enjoy the new bag!
But notice, the raincover is NOT rainproof! My Nikon D810 did not survive a haevy rain in this backpack.
Mike, thank you for the great review. You hit all the selling spots of this bag very well. Given that the 350 and the 450 are priced almost the same, I would opt for the 450. Yes the 450 is quite a bit bigger but still manageable. The 350 would be perfect for my camera and a few lenses I have. The 450 would allow me to but my gimbal and a few other video related items in the same bag, hence eliminating the need for a second bag. Inclusion of the molle system is brilliant.
Haha, man, I actually needed this paper velcro hack
"The more you carry the more it hurts your back !"
That's when Micro 4/3 makes sense ;)
Great job on the review - answered every one of my questions and a bunch more I didn't think to ask. You earned a click through purchase! I was laughing halfway through when I was like "How tall is he? - you know - for perspective, and then 3 seconds later you said "I'm 5'7" creepy lol...thanks again!
LOL! I'm very glad I covered that for you as well - I really did try to anticipate a lot xD
I just purchased the original 350 because I couldn't see any improvement with the newer version. The original does have a hard top. I can fit my 14 inch Lenovo X1 carbon. My Olympus EM1.2 with 40-150 Pro and extension will fit in sideways. Based on the estimated length of the 150-400 Pro, the EM1.2 will fit from the top. Thanks for a great video.
I had a protactic 450.. It was to big.. Now i have this 350 II.. Its Just a little bit to small.. For the v3 they should make a 400.. That would be perfect 🙏 great review!
You're very welcome my friend! :)
Many LowePro packs later, I am still impressed with this one, just purchased today.
I have both AW 250 and AW 450. I'm considering going for 350. 450 is very large, but the problem is that it's also very deep. You can fit the world in there, lol.
I have A7R IV, 135mm, 90mm, 35mm, and Mavic 2 Pro and 250 is too small, 450 is too big.
Love these bags, they are sturdy, you can attach stuff on the back and they are quite comfortable with straps for both around your belly and your chest. Makes heavy bags so much easier to carry around.
I have the 350 AW Gen 1 and I love it aside from the bulkiness. I love how it can hold a lot of stuff along with my camera gear, but the overall width kind of kills it for me. Walking through busy sidewalks and standing in packed trains in Japan made me think of people around me. I always had to be on guard to make sure I didn't hit people behind or next to me. I like how they slimmed it down a bit and added additional straps on the top side pockets. I may have to upgrade to this soon.
I had to move the side attachments to the back of the bag when I was in japan to reduce my size and not hit other people while walking xD
Thanks for the awesome review. We're using this bag now to carry our vlogging setup and it's the perfect size! Also, since you mentioned that the waist strap is hard to insert/remove... it's actually a lot easier if you unzip the main zipper first because the part where the waist strap goes in is more flexible when it's not zipped down. Hope that tip helps you out, have a good one!
I've been looking for a bag for two weeks. I think you've sold me on this one.
Don't worry putting it down in wet conditions, even the version 1 I have is safe. The AW cover inside is basically your shield against moisture. The one feature I love is that they put a handle on the bottom which makes it easy to carry safely and get out of a overhead compartment
Thanks for letting me know!! I'm glad that's the case :)
Shielded against moisture, which means it won't get in and it won't leave.
Make sure you remove wet gear, and let the backpack air dry.
Awesome, thanks for the tip Saharian! :)
I got the original Lowepro Protactic 450 aw Version 1. Great 🎒 backpack. The only thing I didn't like is the padding on the straps. Look like version 2 the padding on the straps thicker. BTW. My 🎒 backpack can stand up 😁
I didn't know that about the version 1, thanks for sharing that!
Awesome video! I love your comparison with Peak Design's bag. I also think that you made an honest and balanced review. You covered the good things about this bag and what can be improved. Thank you for making this video!
Great review man. Covered heaps of questions I didn’t know I had at the time. B-roll was well shot and super unobtrusive. I’ve probably watched 20 reviews on this bag but this one meant I could stop. Wish I’d seen it first. Great content. Cheers!
About to sell my 20L PD bag and get this because of the main accesses. PD bag is good looking but not suitable for everyday photography use.
Great job Mike! And is anyone else reminded of that ShamWow guy?
Thanks for a good video. Sad that you comment about bottom not being waterproof but you dont even test it. It would take you 2 minutes to test that.
But its NOT a problem with wet grass or mud, I can confirm. Amazing bag 👌
Amazing review !!! Came on RUclips to check and I’m sold
It seems to me like a good hack to get your bag to sit up without falling over would be to place a piece of stiff cardboard or plastic inside the bottom to make it flatter. I'm leaning towards purchasing that LowePro Tactic BP 350 AW II bag, but I'm undecided about which size would suit me better (the 350 or the 450). I definitely prefer the new improved version over the old version even if I have to pay a higher price. I like your studio setup and colors. It was easy on my eyes. Great review video. Thanks Mike.
Thanks Bob for the tip Bob! I love the 350 for my use, it really depends on the amount of gear you need to bring :) Cheers!
I actually just got the WANDRD PRVKE 21 V2 and now I'm going to return it for this. Love the size of this. The wandrd is bigger but can hold less gear than this. Weird. Awesome video! Lowepro it is...
Damn, this thing will be perfect for urban exploration movie making
This is great. Thank you. I got this as a Christmas present for all my gear. It holds the very large Sony 200-600mm lens quite nicely with all my other equipment. Can't wait to take it in the field!
Thank you for letting me know that they upgraded the model! Love the fact that it has a removable waist strap and reshaped the hardtop. This was a great review!
Thanks, and really glad it helped! :P
Great video Mike, love your personality bro! Keep them coming 👊🏽
I bought the 450 AW II yesterday. I’m looking forward to taking it out to my gigs.
Man, great review! I just bought the 300 AW II three days ago, got a great deal on it and love the bag but now I want the BP 350 AW II I think a trip to B&H is in order here to see how they compare.
Damnit Mike! I WAS gonna release a backpack review this week. Anyway, looks a bit bulky and pretty good for camera equipment. Great Video!
+Jimmy Tries World haha you still can release a backpack review!! :P Thanks Jimmy!!
I just purchased the AW 450 (the first one not the 450 AW ii) and I can't wait for it to arrive!) I searched all over for the backpack that would meet my needs. I already have a Lowepro 28L for my everyday use and love the quality and comfort. Plus it is set up perfectly for everything I carry. Price was also a factor since I didn't;t want to pay $300-$500 for a backpack but also didn't want to get a cheap oner I would have to replace after a few months. I got mine from eBay NEW for $180.
that's a steal my dude, great choice! There's not much of a difference besides the aesthetics ;)
Let me know what the site is on the ebay deal. I was afraid to purchase because everyone screams knockoff on most ebay sites.
that belt is really amazing!! that's made me decide to buy this bag!!!
I have the AW450. After going through dozens of camera bags and cases, this one certainly fits my needs. I also love how inconspicuous it looks. It doesn't scream camera bag like others. I used a black sharpie and colored in the "Lowepro" log, so it's even more tactical!!! :)
+Benjamin Yanto Oh snap Ben!! That's a great idea to black it out! I might do that when I get home from my trip :) right now I have the large pouch blocking it for now haha thanks for the tip!!
Hey fantastic video. I actually have the 450 Protactic and I just want to say that you have provided information about the bag that I did not know or notice. I. never knew or thought about using the hip support belt on its own. I also use the Peak Design camera clip and you have given me more choices about how to use it with the bag. Way to go! thank. you
And safe against people stealing your gear. Thanks for the great review. And the waist strap tip in the end.
Great job explaining the good thing about the bag. Very informative. I watched reviews about this bag on youtube, none of them is as good and as informative as your video. You help me decide to buy this bag. BTW, nice handy tip on how to put the waist strap back in. Thanks for the review, keep up the good work.
thanks for the vid. I really hoped the 350 could carry a 15"laptop. The 450 is a bit too much of a chunky boy for me. You saved me a bit of research time.
Very nice video, but the black on black was not enough contrast to see the backpack on you very well. Still thumbs up though
Thanks buddy! I'll definitely wear another color next time :)
Great review thanks, and great tip about the waist strap and paper to refit 🙂.
So yet another photo rucksack with a laptop sleeve that can't take a Hydro Pack, or can it? This is essential when I'm skiing, or cycling. Water bottles are usless and not accessible, even when your hiking, or walking, forcing you to stop and remove the rucksack. It's already got the required webbing straps on the shoulder straps to feed the Hydro Pack hose through. Maybe you could give it a go and report back?
I have the bag and came only to see, how you could use all the extra small bags and straps they give you. Also thanks for showing how to take out the strap. Really gets annoying when you only use the bag for a quick trip
Glad that helped Kevin! :)
awesome review. Have a MacBook Pro 15". so you helped me decide on the 450. Thanks man.
i have the 450, i love everything apart from the quick access as I do travel to unsafe places sometimes, and I always worry people can just open your bag without you noticed, so I just put the rain proof cover over it.
Great point buddy! I think it is possible to put a little TSA lock to prevent people from opening the bag as well :)
@2:57 You should show the rain cover from the side to realize it doesn't cover the main zipper super well since the backpack straps are between the body and said main zipper. Its a design flaw that stopped me from upgrading from the previous bp 350 version.
I have the 350 older version and a I miss a quick access pocket for my wallet, passport, iphone (both pockets on the side are too small). Besides that it is an amazing backpack! Still deciding an upgrade between the 450 II or the Peak Design 30L.
superb review passionately informative!!!! I am buying the bag ...you tipped me over the edge! Thanks Mike!
Glad i found your video man! I didn't even know there was a version 2 of the product and i almost bought the first version of the backpack! Thank you :P
I was already going to buy this bag, but now I know I need some of those magical quick access clips too..
the PD quick access clip? It's super useful ;)
@@MikeWat 100% necessary
this is one of the best reviews that I ever seen, Lowepro should sponsor ya
Great pack i use wynex admin pouch to carry my 7" screen with cables mike accessories fits perfect to rear webbing . Great set up .d850 with grip cage two pro lenses , + bits
Have you tried using it out in heavy rain? I've heard complaints that the cover doesn't completely cover the top and there's a danger of water entering the laptop compartment and bag via the zipper, so please check this out if you want your review to be truly comprehensive.
I also doubt that a 15" would fit in the laptop compartment of the 350AW. You would need to have a thin and light 15" like a macbook or dell XPS to fit into the laptop compartment of the 450AW and that would still be a tight fit, and that bag is bigger than the 350AW. Anyway, Lowepro doesn't claim a 15" will fit there so just take their word for it.
Hey buddy! I read a lot of reviews, the 15" MBP will most likely not fit xD I shoulda tested that out in the video, would have really helped a lot of people out!!
Will this accommodate a canon ef 100-400 lens? Also will it fit under the seat of most airline carriers? Good review!
Great review. I've been looking at that pack for my own gear, and you answered a lot of my questions.
Great video! Definitely made me regret my decision not to get this Lowpro bag...
'So ya,, your welcome',,,,, Priceless , Well done Mike,, great review and a excellent hack,,, keep up the great work!!
Thank u so much for this really cool and clear review(and video of course!)!U convinced me and i just ordered one!
Really cool!!
I was searching "protactic bp 350 aw ii removable waist belt" but right after you answered it
woo hoo! Glad that helped ;)
Good content, man! I did not expect the video to be that good. Thank you for making this!
Howdy, Mike!
I carry the Nikon f2.8 Trinity lenses, plus a Nikon 50mm f1.8, and a Nikon 105 f2.8G ED Micro lens. I think it will all fit into the LowePro Protactic 350 AW BP II, but wonder if carrying it will be comfortable. What do you think? I'm considering the 350, or the Mindshift 18, or 26L Backlight bags. Carrying comfort is very important to me, as well as ease of accessing my gear. If you have time, please share your thoughts, Sir. Thanks, and God Bless!
Every Good Wish,
Doc Mark
For anyone who owns this 350 bag, can you safely strap a full-size tripod to this and not just a toy one? Other than that one question I had, it was a solid review! Thanks!!
Great deep dive of the details about this backpack. Love the humor especially "the belt that Batman has." XD Would you be keeping your PD Everyday backpack since Lowepro Protactic 350 AW II seems better?
+storeman165 Thanks buddy! If I was going to buy one now, I'd definitely choose the lowepro for sure for my use! However, the Peak design is better as a everyday bag if you need to carry books or bigger things. I am looking to sell my PD bag, but I might keep it just to compare with other bags in the future :) Hope that helps bud!
@@MikeWat I see.. Thanks for the reply! Because I too owns a PD 20L backpack in Tan for minimum camera set up with EDC items as it got a very sleek design, I use it for casual/formal outing. Most likely I'm gonna keep it. Ha.. 😉
8:45... XD you killed me there! love, liked and subscribe!
What you said about the PD bags is my issue with them. They look SLEEK but they sacrifice usability for the looks big time.I ended up with Lowepro and Tenba and sold my PD.
Nice review pf the LowePro Protactic BP 350 AW II. 2 questions please...What's its size in Liters? And, have you any epereince with the similar Tenba Axis V2 20L Backpack? Just wondering which is the higher quality bag? Thanks!
Hey Mike great review. I just purchased bag for a week trip. What brand of tripod are you using. I need a good compact tripod
definitely going to save for this bag, just bought a manfroto essential bag to use on my first trip 😩 but it was in the budget so thanks for the review
Nice, thorough review! And as someone that's 5'6", thanks for letting us know how tall you are when modeling the bag :D
I GOT BOTH THE 350 AND 450 VERSION 1 I LOVE THESE BAGS!
YEAA!! 😀🔥🔥⚡
good review ! you think a moza air 2 will fit ?
God review 👍🏻. Would it accommodate a Nikon d500 w 70/200 lens ? Thx
Fantastic review!! Really like the functionality of the bag, the only thing I would say is it doesn't look like is big enough for any zooms such as a 70-200mm or may be even a 150-600mm for wildlife. May be I will need to take a look at the 450. But, good job though all the same!!
Got the 450AW2 and fully agree with your review !!
Congrats on getting the AW2!! I think they look a lot better than version 1 :)
Great review. Helped me make a decision on which version of the 450 I will get! Even tho you reviewed the 350. Thanks 🙂
Glad it helped you out Rod! :)
Anybody has first hand experience Spirit accepting this as carry on personal item? Spirit's personal item size limits are 18 x 14 x 8. The spec shows it as a tad taller (18.9") than allowed. So it is borderline based on specs hence my question. Also would this fit the 200-600mm Sony mounted on a camera? (with or without lens shade)
Thanks Mike, loved this review and the Peak Design Everyday Backpack review that brought me here. You've mostly sold me on this one, but a nice aspect of the PDEB that you demo'ed was how well the expanding top compartment worked for cramming in a jacket. How would you handle a jacket with this one? Do the supplied straps work well for attaching one to the back?
I hope you follow up with a "what's in my bag" on this one. I'm also curious how well it works for juggling, say, 3 lenses in the field without having to lay it on the ground to open it up.
Great question! I've been using the protactic on my Japan trip for 11 days now, and I've been using the clip/strap on the bback to hold my jacket on the outside - it works very quick and well!!
I'll definetly make a video in Japan to show what's in my bag and other neat tricks I've found using the bag to hold my gear :)
It might be a bit difficult juggling 3 lenses but 2 is definitely do-able for me - Btw I don't have that many lenses, more like just my kit lens as I just switched to the A7iii and I'm still a newbie photographer/videographer, but I'll try my best to explain that in the what's in my bag video :)!
@@MikeWat Thanks for the response! Since you've been travelling, I wonder if you're using that new horizontal strap in the back of the protactic to hook it to the extended handle of a suitcase, and how well it works in practice.
I love your videos for your focused delivery and tight editing - you get 30 mins of info and wit into a 10 minute video!
I wonder if the AW II is worth $100 more since I see literally zero difference. Maybe a slight exterior change.
For strictly a camera bag the AWs seems to be the far better choice. For a hybrid travel/camera bag the PD seems to be pretty good but not great. I'd rather have a great camera bag first and foremost personally.
I think its mostly just a change in aesthetics :)
Great review, helpful info, and what an awesome idea using paper to insert the removable waist strap! 👍🏻
Excellent video, which is your headphones? which is your tripod?
Awesome review, definitely considering buying this little beast. Will it fit a mavic 2 with smart controller along with the Sony a6400? Thanks
Excellent review, very informative.
Very helpful video, thank you. What is that clip you use to attach your camera to the belt. Can you advise a product name or give an affiliate link? Cheers!
am just a... "fffff..." love it!
Cool vid man, thanks!
Thank you for a well done and informative video. Really helped me out in my decision. The velcro trick was killer!
Quick question: was the quick release holder the peak design v3?
Greetings from Italy.
Great review! Don't know if you still have this bag, but how much room is there in the upper portion of the bag (above the side access portion)?
I have to say it is a great backpack after 3 years of use and it still being sold very well. But it is definitely NOT the most comfortable bag and the style can be quite polarized too. It is just okay when it comes to comfort level for long time carrying. The belts somehow managed to give my shoulders quite unpleasant pressure when the bag is full and is carried for more than a few hours continuously.
Every backpack is gonna be heavy by the way, you can't escape weight
@@thegixlad27 Well…then you want to think about why the comfort level of long time carrying when different bags are fully loaded varies. When weight is a given factor, it depends on the design of the bags to differentiate themselves from the competition. Not all bags is designed the same, hence they all feel different. Some are more comfortable and some are not. Being a person who used many backpacks for heavy gears in the past 20 years, this one is not ranked very high of my list for sure.
@@Red-xz1gk Fair enough, but nothing is perfect in life this backpack for example even though the backpack community will disagree or agree it's value for the money even right now! it's super cheap on eBay from various sellers that's great.
Everyone is also built differently too, I've had the 350 AW II now for around 7 months and so far I've no problems with it that includes no backpack pain after a long duration.
@@thegixlad27 That is true too. Glad you found the bag works for you. 👍
Nice video. I have the lowepro 250 AW II but it is a little to big for the Ryanair standards. I looking for the 350 AW II but i am not sure if it fits : 1)sony a7iii with kit lens 2) Zeiss 55 1.8 3) sony 90mm macro 4) dji gimbal rsc2 5) 2 small light 6) 13 inches laptop. Do you thing all this thing can fit in there ?
Can I put D500+200-500 attached at the bottom horizontally...
Dear Mike thanks a lot for yours awesome review👍👍👍
Just a question about the space on protactic 350 awII…you think is it enough for r6+24-70, rsc2 and mini 2?
Thanks in advance…
Greetings from Italy👋🏻
Just got this bag! It's really nice!
Another banger of a vid.
Good job Mike 👍😁
+NickGivesLs Thanks Nick!! :):)
Great video, just ordered this bag because of you , thank you for sharing great review 👌
Glad it helped, enjoy your new bad buddy!
I was really contemplating getting the Lowepro Tahoe BP150, But now I've seen this.... I really like this one now🤙... Ps it's for my Osmo Action & GoPro "H8" (when it comes out) & lot's of accessories & also toddler stuff.. I'm an action camera PaPa👊😎👊
loving the videos .. fellow creator frm ndia, just found ur channel few dayss ago. i hv just got the nomatic travel bag mckinnon version and .. oh my oh my .. its so heavy. can’t use it as a everyday bag. was looking into a lighter more compact option fr everyday use .. liking the peak design and this lowerpro one .. but the tripod pockets on the sides seems too small, and i wonder if it can fit a peak design travel tripod ?
Just saw the review. Is there enough space to throw in a hoodie jacket for flight along with some light camera gear, a 13" laptop and a mavic mini drone. Lastly, compared to the peak design everyday backpack zip 15L which one you recommend?
So informative and complete. Thanks bro!
Awesome video! Exactly what I needed to watch to choose a camera bag. Just one doubt, do you think I could feet a Canon 1DX on the top compartment? Thanks, Mike!
You're very welcome Alejandro! :)
