In Poland, waterman Fountain pens, are more expensive than the prices you’ve shown. For example, the carene is worth like $250-300. Sorry for my English but it’s my 3rd language
firstly, I really would like to appreciate this review. Among all other Waterman fountain pens review, this is the most helpful. I have spent a lot of time finding the conclusion to find a pen of my interest and these details are most helpful.
I love my Waterman Phileas that I bought in a Staples in the ‘90’s for about $20.00. It’s a medium that writes like a wet broad, it’s still a great writer and beautiful. One of my first fountain pens, and one of my favorites.
@@wilson-reviews Hey I have an edson. While cleaning the nib and black cap got loose which i think were in place using tar like sealant. My pen still works fine but do i need to seal the nib and black cap behind it using some sealant?
I used to have Waterman Edson but I sold it because the cap was scratching grip section and inlaid nib. I'm not sure is it how I cap the pan or is it a design flaw.
I only use a Pilot Decimo with a 18k medium nib, and a Waterman 515 with a 14k gold nib from the 1940s. My Pilot metropolitan Green Retro pop with the cm stub nib is my fall back favourite.
I'm a big fan of French Watermans. The nibs on the Carene and Edson aren't "hooded", but "inlaid". You'll find similar nibs on some Sheaffer's. I've avoided the Perspective and the Exception for the traits you describe, though I find their looks appealing. I'm in total agreement on the Expert - it's an all-around great pen for a good price. Thanks for sharing.
This was EXTREMELY useful. I’ve been wondering whether to buy the Deluxe. When you said that they dry up quite quickly if you don’t use them for a few weeks, that was a very important thing to know. Thanks so much for taking the time to film it and post it
Excellent choices of collection! I am using a Waterman Expért fountain pen (Black lacquer GT) until this day! It’s my first & only fountain pen until now :)
ive already watched that video but im re watching it i dont know what it is but i love it, those pens are beautiful. I own a Waterman expert and a Waterman graduate, hopefully i will get a Carene soon
Hey man, I hope you can help me with this question. I bought a Hemisphere just a few weeks ago and I have found that the cap is just a little loose. Don't get me wrong, the cap stays on the pen nicely and you can feel and hear that it's secure once closed. However, the issue that I am seeing is that the cap just can be removed with very little resistance. Is this normal for Hemispheres? Thanks for the help!
I just bought a Waterman Paris translucent blue this morning for 10 euros in a french supermarket. I guess some french schools still insist on kids learning with a "plume", which I haven't done since school (Osmiroid, Parker). You wretched RUclips pen reviewers have got me addicted and while I'm saving for a Namiki maki-e, I thought I'd try my fist. It wrote on the very first stroke after inserting the cartridge and feels smooth to me. Nice cap fit, secure posting and nice balance when posted (too light for me if not). I'm happy! The others you show are a bit too conservative for my own taste, but classy.
Posting here for the second time. Glad to report that I’m getting the Carene (essential silver), in the coming weekend. Can’t wait to have it in my hands. It’s an extremely elegant pen that I’m sure I’m going to love a lot. Pricey, too, but I don’t care. The other Waterman I’m getting the week after is the Charleston. I already have the excellent Expert III. And I really want an Edson, too. Are they still available? Haven’t checked yet. In any case, thanks is due to this video for rekindling my interest in and urge to buy and have more wonderful Waterman pens in my beloved collection of FPs. And I do use most of them to write a lot regularly.
The Carene was my first Waterman FP and I still use it today. Definitely a workhorse of a fp - solid, consistent, and very legible/readable writing from it. The Edson's are still available on ebay from time to time and on trading forums. The charleston has one of the best FP tips and is very good for traveling - small light weight and very smooth writer.
Billion Dollar Twin ...Good of you to reply, bud! Yea, thanks to you, I went out and made the purchase orders for the Carene and the Charleston. The Carene’s looks alone justify the price tag. The only thing that I’m not overly fond of is the ultra-smoothness of the nib that you and a few other reviewers alluded to. I ordered mine with an ‘M’. And the pens drying out quickly without regular use seems to be a hallmark of the Waterman pens. My own Expert III and the Hemisphere are proof of that. And oh, that Aurora 88 you showed is to die for. I have three Auroras and love them to death. I saw your one on another reviewer’s video and I spent the rest of the day dreaming and pining to have it, too. 😀 Stay cool!
A review of objective good taste. Aurora and Waterman (classic and modern) are notable performers and Waterman are the lookers, Aurora the performers. You could leave an Aurora on your desk for six months and it would write immediately, like you had just used it. I have a Carene which just slips off the page, is always wet and ready, and is a stub to boot, and sometimes I just hate it for its perfection. Your Edsons and my Serenite are objets d'art pure and simple. If they didn't write you would still love them. Of course, they do, and magnificently in the hand. Make some more vids if you can. You're good.
I really want to explore and possibly buy more Waterman pens. I only have two, of which one doesn’t write anymore because of a damaged nib. I wish the filling systems of each of these pens were shown. Are they all cartridge/converter types?
Billion Dollar Twin ...Oh, thanks for replying, bud! I don’t like and rarely use cartridges. But if Watermans come with good converters, I’m glad and good to go with these pens. There’s a certain ‘old-school’ style and elegance to Waterman pens that appeals to me. I think I have to get the Expert III first, and really want a good Carene later in the year, maybe. Thanks for the effort you took to put this video out for the rest of us.
@@wilson-reviews thanks, I know my question came late, so I appreciate the reply. The Expert III nib widths seem to run on the wide side of the spectrum. Beautiful pen.
Hello, enjoyed your video had a quick question about the waterman expert. I have one exactly like that, mine at the end cap or bottom of the pen shifts or wiggles a little as if it’s loose is that normal? Or did it come defected? It’s like the end of the pen isn’t completely attached to the ring or body of the pen. Like it’s two pieces.
Hi Nick that definitely does not sound right. I just checked my Waterman expert; My expert and all waterman for that matter feel solid and there are not shifts or wiggling. I do not see a screw to fasten at the end.
Thanks for a fine overview of several models! (If I may be a bit of an elocutive-pronunciatory prick, might I make these suggestions: "Smooth", not "smoove", "Carène", not "careen", and "threads", not "treads", "Montblanc", not "mount blunk"...)

Yes fountain pen prices have increased over the years - duties and customs add to final purchase prices
@@wilson-reviewswhat do you think about the waterman carene? I think that i’ll buy a new one soon.

I think the Waterman Phileas is an underrated fountain pen. It is simply a great writing fountain pen. I own more than a dozen of them.
I agree. I own one. It lays down a lot of ink without hesitation.
I was going to get one of these last year just to complete my collection - thanks for recommendation will do so later
Reminds me of Pink Floyd's Animals pretty underrated aswell.

which size for the nib?

Yes I like Sheaffer pens too and have quite a bit of them now. I like the older PFM ones that can be still be found on ebay now.
I have a Waterman Graduate. I think that it is a more recent model. Anyway it is low priced and writes great. I have been using it almost every day

If you want a pen that almost never dries up it is the Aurora 88 for me. One in storage for over a year and it wrote like it was just inked.
Excellent choices of collection!

what are your thoughts on the matte fountain pens as opposed to the traditional lacquer or even stainless steel bodies?
