He is pretty insensitive to her, by expecting her to be just like his mum. He is so one-sided, yet they try to make her out as the selfish one, yet he doesn’t try to adapt to her way of doing things. Show him the door... he has no right walking back in her life and trying to make her feel bad for not being a copy of his mum.
Thank you I thought I was the only one, I would’ve flipped out too. He’s comparing her to his adoptive mom. If she’s that great why not go dig her up and revive her. You’re trying to bring a 27 year old tradition that you had with your old mom and trying to make your birth mom adapt to what you want by guilt tripping her.
Both of you think you are completely correct in your assumption that it was wrong of Arlo to compare his adopted mother to his biological mother. Yet, when his grandmother is there, it becomes quite obvious why his biological mother may not be all he expected...his grandmother is a " real piece of work ", too. The apple didn't fall far from that tree.
BTW, growing up, I had a sort of reverse situation as I am sure most people did. If I said anything about Christmas preparations my mother would remind me of how meager her Christmas was with 6 brothers and 2 sisters. My father NEVER said anything, though he had it much worse, being an orphan.
Thank you! I mean hes not a kid. Why cant he process before saying ish like that. Be thankful for not being selfish enough to take up a responsibility that maddy knew she was gonna screw up. Without ruining his life, she gave her up. Its in the best interest of the child.

The mother literally just died. Of course he’s going to keep bringing her up. His first holiday without her.
This a really good comedy series, classic, a bit twisted but in a good way, not weird and too modern like most of today's sitcom, wish hollywood produce more like this

My favorite series so far.
I have been watching Christmas episodes of various American and British sitcoms...including vintage Ozzie and Harriet. This was pretty good, loved Cloris Leachman.

If you examine each of the main characters they are all fairly annoying, just like the members of a real family.
So many comments on here talk about how annoying and/or thoughtless Arlo is...and Kirstie isn't?
If Arlo was nice and mushy it wouldn't be Kirstie, the show would be The Waltons.
This show is so funny. I wish it had gone on longer, it was just finding its feet. I’ve seen much worse trash on tv that goes on for endless seasons.

Finally a real actor, Cloris Leachman. Id like to say this show is growing on me 4 episodes in...just not the case. It does have its moments...but i understand why there is no season 2.
The Arlo part didn't work, either wrong actor, writing, something...the show might have made it will that change.
