If you're taller make sure you give the SV650 some consideration. You can find them in great shape for $2,500-$3,000 often with less than 10,000 miles. My 07 is great around town but I get cramped on longer rides. It's a compact bike
I never leave RUclips comments but I really appreciate your videos and attitude. Found your channel as I'm researching the fz-07 and have really enjoyed watching them. Keep up the great work.
Jeff Hauser Thats awesome Jeff, your kind words really encourage me to keep going forward! I wish you well in your bike purchase(s) and hope you stick around, glad to have you!
was of very good use to me, my friend. thank you. you were right: i've been considering this bike for a while now, and ive never heard anyone say anything about the transmission. definitely not a dealbreaker, but good to know.
Something about a southern accent with a decent vocabulary just makes everything sound way more genuine. Worth looking into more of your vids and most likely subbing even though I haven't been into motovlogs in a couple years 🤘
You're too kind man, thank you. Honestly, I'm with you on motovlogs, I absolutely love making them but I can only watch so many different vloggers do it. I've got my few I'll always watch, and connections I've made since I started myself, but that's about it.
I used to really want to motovlog until youtube became super over saturated, then I got into mountain biking, and now that's getting over saturated 😂 although I will say it's a lot easier to not only meet mtb youtubers but a lot of us travel around and you can ride with and hang out with just about any of them as long as you're not a total weirdo lol a few local buddies and I do group stuff a lot, as of lately. Anyway, yeah dude you seem to do a good job being more of the traditional motovlogger rather than all these clickbaiting shitposters these days. I pretty much only watch Do It With Dan now days, as far as motovlogs. And a little JTGS.
That's awesome to hear! That's the whole reason I put these terrible videos out here, hopefully to help some people out. Hope the buying process goes smoothly, if that's what you're doing, regardless of what you get!
Finally a truthful review about this bike! Mine slams into first gear when it's warmed up. Everybody on the forums say it's normal though. My only other complaint is the choppy throttle due to the total fuel cutoff when letting off the throttle. Nothing an aftermarket ECU tune can't fix though. Also coming off a supermoto I didn't realise how far the seat slants towards the tank. The first few short stops I had to make it wasn't gentle on my jewels LOL. I've gotten more used to it and now I can prevent it.
MotorHeadGreg I'm glad its not just mine. I agree on the fueling, but I'm likewise going to tune mine. I actually have a Black Widow full exhaust already, just waiting on the funds for tune and DNA filter. Thanks for the kind words man, be safe out there!
That 1st gear shift really bothered me too. I thought something had to be wrong with clutch engagement but it just a Yamaha thing. Shifting got much better when I went to synthetic oil.
Same here. The only other "complaint" I might have is that the blinker switch is *really* touchy. I accidentally push it too far a lot. But that might just be because I haven't owned a bike for 7 years and I'm WAY TOO AMPED ABOUT RIDING AGAIN. I'm guessing it'll wear off, but not much.
Yeah, I can totally agree with you. I bought this spring the new MT-07 2017 Edit. in the colour night flou like you have (I don`t know the difference to a FZ-07) and just love it. It`s my first bike and I`m so happy with it. It`s so amazing that you become for such less money, such much of a bike :). Greetings from Switzerland
Congrats! I bet having the MT-07 as a first bike would be a blast, and there's no big difference between the FZ and MT bikes, they just changed the name for the US market! Have fun on that thing!
I love this bike, and color wise (IMHO) it's the best looking FZ of them all. This was my first bike, and coming home from the dealer, I got it to 120 mph. Since I had never been on a motorcycle before, I chicken out at 120 mph, but it felt amazing.
T Hoang I totally agree. I bought this thing right after I learned that the 17's weren't going to have green wheels, otherwise I would have waited and probably would have ended up not being able to get it. You were way braver than I was my first ride! I have hit 100 a few times to this day and thats about it! Stay safe out there
This is a great review. I’ve watched a ton of FZ-07 videos, and test rode one at my local dealer and agree with much of the sentiment you share on this video. I’ve had other faster bikes before (R1 for 8 years) but an FZ07 is my next bike. Subscribed!
I got a 2016 FZ-07 after Christmas and have 3,000 miles on it now. After almost 30 years without a bike I thought there just aren't any reasons not to get one now. I made the choice entirely by sitting on different bikes and watching videos. The 07 is a great bike around town and in the twisties but catches to much wind for long interstate rides or runs up over 100mph. That said, it is a naked bike or UJM and that's what they are all about anyhow. It pulls hard enough below 50mph to keep just about everyone happy but starts to run out of beans around 90mph with top end just north of 120. My only complaints about the bike are. 1 It's compact. Almost supermoto feeling. I love it and it's what makes it so fun in the turns but I'm 6'2" @ 215lbs and after about an hour I start getting cramped. This bike seems perfect for smaller riders. 2. It's buzzy. Sometimes my right hand goes numb. Especially on colder days. This is a machine a rider of any experience level would enjoy riding. I would say it is at the maximum end of beginner bikes. It has plenty of power to get you in trouble yet just feels perfect below 75mph. Transmission shifting is greatly improved in all bikes by using synthetic oil. Just make sure it's JASO / wet clutch rated.
loved your review and subscribed. i have a 2016 fz-07 as well and i do not find the transmission clanky. i find neutral easy and it shifts beautifully and smoothly. had an fz-09 and sold it because i hated the throttle by wire. the fz-07 is throttle by cable. so much smoother and not at all twitchy. keep up the great job.
HI-VIZ SMILEY, THANK YOU!! I'VE BEEN WATCHING YOU SINCE YOU BOUGHT THIS BIKE. I HAD A VERBAL AGREEMENT WITH A DEALER ON A KILLER DEAL FOR A 2018 Z900. THE DEALER RENEGED ON THE DEAL AND RAISED THE PRICE $500. ON PRINCIPLES ALONE I DECIDED TO LOOK FOR ANOTHER BIKE AND THAT'S WHERE YOUR VIDEO DELIVERED! I ALREADY HAD A R3 BUT NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THE MT07. YOUR CANDID COMMENTARY WAS REFRESHING. ENOUGH SAID.....I LOVE, LOVE THIS BIKE! I BOUGHT A NEW 2018 LAST SATURDAY AND JUST DID MY 600 MILES OIL CHANGE THIS SATURDAY!LOL YOU WERE RIGHT WITH YOUR STATEMENT "I PROMISE YOU, YOU WILL ENJOY IT". YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. WOOOHOOO!
Aw shoot I like a welsh accent too, I love all accents really. I didn't even realize I had much of one until this video took off and that's been like 50% of the comments haha, it's just normal around here. Thanks man for the kind words, I hope your friend enjoys it!
Currently in the process of acquiring a 2018 mt-07.... Finally!! Lol I've been wanting one for at least a year now and have seen almost every youtube video about the fz/mt series in the last year. Stoked to finally be pulling the trigger! Hope to see more videos from you soon, buddy 🤘
I have a 16' fz07 and a 14' R1! And I find myself going to the fz07 alot more than the R1! Juss bcuz with the R1 ur limited to certain riding, with the fz07 u can do way more things, n have way more fun!! Juss my opinion!! Cool video tho 👍🏽
loved the refreshing point of view on the bike. I'm watching this video as I've been watching fz07 videos seemingly forever in anticipation of finally getting a chance to own one myself. coming from the mighty Honda grom ive put 16k on already in under 2 years I started looking for a fun, powerful enough to have fun with but approachable and take enough to commute on bike to add to the fleet. I ignored the armor grey and fluorescent yellow color scheme because I assume thats a nightmare to keep clean. I previously had a car with white wheels...(never again!)
A Gravel Thanks for the kind words! If you don't absolutely LOVE the color scheme definitely don't get it, as you will get tired of cleaning the bike really quick. 16K on a grom is impressive! Good luck on a new bike and stay safe out there!
Great video...I just paid off my Honda CRF250L and bought this within a week--love it! I just like riding motorcycles, and this is a great addition...not too much and not too little. It's a total blast to ride. Thanks for the video! I sub'd!
Just subscribed. I have to agree with you about the choice you face when deciding which key to grab when you have 2 bikes. I got a 2014 Triumph Speed Triple, which I enjoy, and is a blast. But, for pure fun and relaxed riding, my 2016 FZ-07 will also usually get ridden more. It's lighter, more nimble, and has a more relaxed riding position. Don't get me wrong, the Speed triple is an absolute animal, but it's more of a "Sunday ride", if that makes any sense. I only have about 1300 miles on my 07, but it is an absolute joy to ride. You got to upgrade the exhaust... I put the M4 on, and man oh man, what fun!
In that case you've got two of the best sounding and most charismatic bikes on the market! That's so funny about having to pick between those two, I would figure the Triumph would get the nod most often. And I do have a Black Widow full exhaust to put on, I need to get the airbox and tune. The wait is killing me! Thanks for the comment man!
Great review man, I whole heartedly agree, I have had mine for a couple of years, I have 2 other bikes, a KLR 650 and a Husky FE 350, the FZ 07 has that dual sport feeling to it, it feels light, the torque is great, it's such an easy bike to ride, I don't ever have to "adjust" to it after riding one of my dual sports, it always feels right, Yamaha did a great job with the motor, if they ever make a dual sport with this motor in it I am buying it, yea the transmission isn't the best but to me it's just part of the character of the bike. I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing.
West Texas Dual Sport You've got a sweet stable of bikes! Oh man if they ever come out with that DT-07 (I think thats what it was called) dirt tracker I would die! I agree on all accounts. Thanks for the kind words my friend!
What’s up man. Appreciate the honest opinion. Was considering on gettin’ the FZ, and after viewing ur vid, am closer on making the deal. Keep on keepin’ on and safe while ur at it.
Nice Vid, first time viewer. The 07 was my first bike 1 year ago. Loved it, but felt the need to jump into the 09. 07 was the perfect bike to learn on.
I checked out several of your videos over the last year while I was drooling for one of these bikes. So awesome that you happened to find mine! Thanks for checking it out, stick around!
I do 600 miles a week out here in California. The damn bike is a beast, considering that you take good care of it this bike should last you a long time. Hopefully more first time riders consider this bike as their first!
Thanks homie, I really appreciate it. I actually just put out a vid on my camera mounting system if you're curious about what exactly is going on there. Thanks for watching!
I like this review because you're telling mostly what you hate / dislike about the motorcycle, or where it would be lacking. I like that because any bloke who knows a TAD bit about motorcycles, already knows what the bike would be good at. Things like how you fit on the motor / what HP it has / fuel economy etc. Those things you can practically just search, even on the yamaha page. I like that what your saying, are the things that they don't tell you / don't want to.
I picked up my new 2017 FZ-07 today. Awesome bike for the money. It is a major upgrade from the KLR650. The KLR is a pack mule. The FZ is a refined thoroughbred.
Thanks for the review! I think I'm pretty much decided on buying the same exact bike you have. I want that same color scheme, and I'll probably end up buying a model year old to save a few bucks, but I want to be the first owner. A week ago, I really didn't know what bike I wanted. I was planning to get a dual sport because I love trail riding. But I don't get many good chances for trail riding, so I changed my mind and decided to go full street for the first time. I grew up riding bikes that were too big and powerful for me, so I can handle pretty much anything I sit on. But I want to be really smart with this bike purchase. I don't want something overly powerful, but I definitely don't want something I'll get bored with either. I've ridden R6's and really didn't like the lack of torque. I'm also not in love with the idea of owning a straight up sportbike. Riding one? Sure, they're fun. Owning one to drive in traffic? Not so much. Considering all of that, and my size (6' 160lb), I think the FZ-07 is perfect for me, but I'll try to test drive a couple. Reviewers all seem to say that it has plenty of power unless you're some kind of speed junkie. It might not be the best at any one thing, but it's always fun. So excited, can't wait! Should be able to pick mine up sometime this month.
Drew Kosonen You've got it exactly right, for someone of your experience it will be a blast! To get the Armor Gray with the green wheels you'll have to get a 2016 model, that's the only year of that scheme as far as I know. Good luck on the purchase, ride one and I'm sure you'll be hooked!
Well, I pulled the trigger this weekend! Couldn't wait anymore. Ended up changing my mind and went with a Raven one. It was a really, REALLY tough choice. The armor gray is what drew me to the FZ's in the first place, and what brought me to that particular dealer because they had a 2016. But after seeing the black in person... my god it's beautiful. I'll gently nudge my brother toward a gray one when he buys his :D I brought it home on Saturday, just finished the 100 mile break-in tonight. I am so in love with that bike already. You were absolutely right, as soon as I test rode it, I knew I was making the right choice. Felt instantly at home, and none of the disappointment I felt the first time I rode an R6. Feels like exactly what's been missing from my life for the last 7 years. [continues to gush]
If you're tall you might want to give the SV650 some consideration. I love my FZ-07 but a little more room would be nice. You can find them used in great shape for $2,500-3,000 often with less than 10,000 miles.
Really enjoyed this video man, nicely done. I recently saw pics of this bike, and the color / rims... like speak to me! If you ever sell it I will buy :)
I know I'm late to the party, but I just bought a 2018 mt-07 with abs, and I gotta say I absolutely love this bike. I think the throttle throw could be a little shorter, and it's a little twitchy in first gear between no throttle and that initial start of getting throttle. I'm used to Harley's, so first gear sounding like a small hammer inside the case never really seemed odd to me. The rear fender delete and integrated tail light are positively needed to complete the look of the bike. I also changed out the front turn signals to something less big and goofy. All in all for the price, this thing is a lot of value, and plenty of grinning under the helmet.
I have a FZ 07 and it's my first motorcycle. It's a GREAT bike!!! As far as usable power, it's perfect. However, if you want to do insane speeds, it lacks.
Hi-Viz Smiley well I just bought an fz07 and most review videos about these bikes are made by salesman and people who just want to make videos and say everything is great I love it when they haven't even ridden anything else! So watching your video helped me out!
New subscriber here. Great video! I rode an XSR700 today because the dealer didn't have an MT07 available. Your video made me think I really need to test ride the MT!
I would like to ride the XSR, I love everything about it but the dash and tailight/rear end. It would be interesting to see the differences for sure, thanks for watching friend
Thanks for the honest review. I have one as my first bike, but have been too busy to ride it. I only rode it for about an hour, from 12-25 mph. The engine braking and twitchy throttle is insane. Hopefully getting my ecu flashed will help. I don't think I've seen anyone mention the insane engine braking and twitchy on/off feeling from the throttle.
A good tune will knock a lot od the twitchiness out of these, it seems to be a common problem across the FZ range for the most part. Engine braking is really useful and welcome in my opinion, however if you go the tuning route I did you can actually tune it out of the ecu.
I've had more Yamahas than any other bike, I can't knock them. But the shifting thing is the reason I bought the GSX S750.... Insanely smooth shifting!!
2016 FZ-07 Has been my first bike for about 6 months now. I agree that it can be a fantastic first bike for someone who is cautious of it's torque :) also looking to upgrade to the MT-10 further down the line! I love this bike though!
Awesome, glad that it's treating you well! I agree on the 10, for me if I ever go up the range I'll skip the 09, it doesn't pull at my heart strings like that beastly 10 does. Thanks for watching, ride safe!
With a decent amount of respect for the power this would be a good one to grow in to! Whatever you get just stay safe man, that's all that matters. Thanks for watching man
I also have a 250L (sumo conversion), and looking to add a second bike for longer trips and daily riding. Looking at the fz07, CBR650F, gsx-s750, Z650, or fz6r. Thanks for the video, helps my decision a bit.
Justin Awesome! I said that I would buy 17's the day I bought my CRF when i was looking years ago, and I've had it for three now and it aint happened yet. Still on my list though. Whichever you choose you'll be happy, a good naked bike complements a DS/sumo really well. Good luck homie!
i subscribed and liked within the first 5 seconds of the video just because of your accent i have one to as im also a fellow southerner as i am here in southern oklahoma just above the texas border but my accent is not as heavy
Does this bike have different power modes for newer riders? I heard this is a great first bike and im thinking of getting it as a first bike, but it would be nice to start off in a lower mode and then as I get more confident can simply increase it.
@@HiVizSmiley did you already bought an Akrapovic or Yoshimura full system? I want this bike with the full akra system but the ECU needs to be flashed most say. Seems quite expensive!
@@DonGH297 I've got a black widow full system on it, with a DNA filter/airbox and a tune. I rode it for maybe 3 miles with just the exhaust and filter, and it wasn't happy or running right. After I flashed the ecu it was a whole nother bike, world of difference
There's many different ways of going about it. You can have the ecu flashed with a pre-made tune or even have a custom dyno tune at a shop, or you can buy kits that allow you to flash the ecu at home. I made a video on the tuning deal I bought, I wanna say it was 300 or 400 bucks. It is definitely worth it though
Great review. Very honest. I would for sure pick one of these up cause I think most engines on cheap 650's are a bit clunky in general so I would be ok with that.
Hey Brother great video!! Do you think this would be a good upgrade from a Yamaha R3? I love my motorcycle! I think I'll stay Yamaha loyal since I've had great experience with them! I love the looks and features on the MT-07, but two things make me want to change my bike. 1. Here in Florida everything is pretty far so after half an hour riding the R3 my back is killing me. 2. It's such a light bike that on windy days it can be kind of tricky! Do you think the MT-07 is small enough in which you can still lane split with traffic? I've been trying to test ride it but is kind of hard to find a dealer in FL which will let you. Thanks man Regards
You can definitely still lane split. As far as wind, that is a bigger problem on this bike than even the R3. Both bikes get blown around by the wind, but you will feel more of the wind on your race/body with the FZ07 unless you get a really big windscreen. If I still lived in FL it would be a hard choice, would personally rather have a touring bike like KTM 1200 1090, etc. For short commuting, it is hard to beat the FZ, tons of torque, great gas mileage, easy to wheelie, plenty of parts.
@William Marshall I've never pop a wheelie in my life! hahah and I'm afraid of doing it because I don't want to crash my bike! I really don’t have many options regarding bikes because I am not the tallest person in the world, I can barely reach the floor with both of my feet in my R3 but I think I'll be fine with the MT-07 Thanks for taking the time to respond man! I appreciate it! If you are ever down in South FL hit me up!
@@dan_abrusci I completely agree with William here. The MT will be a lot better on your back I'm sure but don't expect it to be some super comfortable cruiser as far as the rest goes. The wind will be a constant with the MT but it's not something unique to it, all naked bikes will suffer from the same. I don't think you can go wrong with a naked bike of any kind and the MT is such a no-brainer once you experience the engine and character it has. Good luck either way man! Ride safe
Biggest problem? I've already got a pile of parts to put on it, and I haven't even taken delivery yet! XD Fender eliminator, tail light, tank pads, windscreen... what have I done?
I haven't... i.imgur.com/95IznRz.jpg Windshield, hand guards, (cup holder), phone holder, USB charger, fender eliminator, all turn signals... Nearing 250mi myself, taking it in tomorrow to get the chain adjusted to lose the chatter.
Was watching this as I plan on getting this model in the next year and the twisties you went on is one of the first places I wanted to take it..In other words I was freaking out, as that spot is like 15 minutes from me
Advance Auto Parts, I actually worked there towards the end of my tenure but started at the East Gadsden location. COMPLETELY different environments there just a few miles apart.
Yes, the transmission. I rode one FZ 07 just yesterday and I was pretty annoyed with transmission. I don't mind if it's noisy. But it was just imprecise. I had a lots of difficulties in putting it in neutral and above that it was just...yeah...clunky, imprecise transmission and gear shifting was annoying because of that.
Mine is not that bad, I just have the harsh noises. I can definitely see it turning people off to the bike though, especially if it's as bad as the one you rode. Thanks for checking it out homie!
Hey, thanks for reply! I only hope that it was just a matter of some adjustments to be made on gear shifting lever and that such thing would do the trick. Because I almost fell in love with this motorcycle. This torky engine is just a blast. And the way this bike goes is just addictive. So - I want one! And if it's just a noisy and a bit clunky but still predictible transmission then I'll still go for it.
I just bought a highly modified 2015 fz07 and it is a BLAST!!! Load as hell wheelies frist 3gears throttle only tops out at 161 but over 120 front float is scary and after 140 you're hanging on for dear life. I will not ever repeat over 140, its just like ur a flag in a hurricane. 6 extra spokes on the front sprocket is not recommended. With the tune exhaust and intake mods its still to much torque for the frame and wheelbase. Fun is off the CHART!!! Im 245lbs I think a 185 man would be on his butt full throttle 1 2 and 3rd gears. I hunker on the tank same as i had to on my old school tt500, back in the day. I put 1100 miles on it first week 450 first day. Me and my wife have been on it she's a biggn to and I have no issues except her crushing my nuts scooting forward at every deceleration moment. Idk stock 07 but this thing is a MONSTER and id put nobbies on it and go anywhere trail within reason considering oil pan clearance.
They are making an ADV bike with the FZ07 engine in it. If I didn't have an excellent dual sport already you bet I'd already have a deposit down. Good to hear another big boy is shredding on one of these! Ride safe homie
Great review for someone like myself that is looking to pick one up. Keep up the good work. Also, what is the name of the song playing for the outro ? Its super chill sounding.
I thought if you were on Facebook I could have sent you an email, but can't this way without your email address. Also I've heard people compare FZ-07 to Yamaha RD 400 which I have had 2.
If you've ridden a Hayabusa, you have experienced high-end brakes. My B-King's brakes are the same. I am thinking about getting one of these for use in northern Thailand. In this colour. Good review.
I say I've ridden one, and I have, but it was only for about 30 miles down the highway. The dealership I work at had sold the thing to a motorcycle dealer and I had to ride it down, with the owner of my dealership following me. Needless to say I didn't get to experience a whole lot. Fun ride though. Thanks for the kind words, and for sure test ride an FZ, they're loads of fun!
Agree with you on just about everything. I love my FZ-07, but it's definitely not made for cruising down a highway or tearing up a track. It's a lot of fun, I commute on it every day rain or shine. I think I do want to get a bike that's more made for highway trips though, and at six feet tall the FZ-07 can feel a bit cramped after an hour or two riding. I feel like the foot pegs are too high or something.
I hope they bring the XSR700 and the FJ-07 over to the states, that way you could get this awesome motor in a couple different chassis configurations to better suit different customers. Thanks for checking it out homie!
Hey! Go for it! DNA airfilter, no snorkle, an aftermarket exhaust and some reflashing...and I tell you, the machine rockets! It's not much more on paper...but the power comes earlier on the revband and faster pickup! And no decell. The bike is much smoother now. Really great! Done 15 000km now and it runs better than ever. About gershifting. I just squeeze the lever ½" and shift faster than a wifes mind. No worries at all. I've done all riding, motorways, city and backroads. Even a trip on the autobahn! It's the best bike. :-)
I've already got a Black Widow full system, and the DNA and tune are top of the list for things to buy! It's a shame they have to make all bikes so quiet now, especially with charismatic engines like this on. You're spot on about the shifting, if I clutchless shift or do as you say and barely squeeze the lever and shift quickly, it's much quieter. Totally jealous about the Autobahn, a bike/car enthusiast's dream road!
He he! Riding on the autobahn is quite an experience, I must say. One can ride as fast as one can and still one has to be alert with one eye in the mirror. Those cars do come up quickly! (read= Porsche, BMW, Audi and Merc) In those high speeds, even the straightest road has curves!
good review, but regarding torque monster honda nc750x puts 68nM at 4750rpm while FZ-07 at 6500 so nc750x is a real monster :) unfortunately power is a bit lacking.
I really like this bike and have since it first came out. This is the best color scheme hands down in my opinion!! I'm thinking about getting rid of my 09 FZ6R, does that seem like a dumb move?? I appreciate your honesty with this review, thank you sir!!
+1 for the color, I absolutely LOVE it! I would ride one if I could just to compare the two bikes, even though it's an FZ it will be COMPLETELY different from yours. You'll most likely love the torque the 07 has compared to your 6. Anyways, thanks for the kind words man!
Hi-Viz Smiley it’s funny because I have a 2016 CRF250l and am looking to get a second bike ( 2017 fz/MT 07 or 09). But can’t decide what one to get. any advice?
I've never ridden an FZ-09 but I hear about people buying them and turning around and selling them for a few different reasons. I'm not saying the FZ-07 is perfect by any means because it's not, but I hear less about people turning around and getting rid of them. Either way, good luck!
Katy Hopkins I guess it's just a Yamaha thing, I have just learned to look over it I reckon. With such a sweet engine it has to have some drawbacks I suppose. Congrats on the bike and stay safe out there!
Love the video bro; good honest review. I'm 6' 2" and coming from a Roadstar 1600; I have decided that I need a Naked Sport for these North GA mountains. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you and how does the triangle feel? Thanks again.
You might be just a little cramped, but it may be just right. I'm 5' 10ish and it is just right for me It's much like my dual sport, just a tiny bit less leg room and bars a little closer to me. Thanks for the kind words my friend!
I like the FZ's engine and looks far better than the Ninja. For me the character of the FZ trumps everything else in the category. Thanks for checking it out, and sweet username!
Both great bikes. Hard to go wrong with either one. I considered the FZ/MT07 but went with a N400 to get a fairing. Considered the N650 as well but didn’t seem like the power to weight ratio was going to be a whole lot better. N650 has more torque for sure.
I seriously have never once checked it, and it even has a mileage thing in the dash. I did reset both it and the trip meter the last time I filled it op so I'll let you know. Thanks for checking it out!
According to the on-board calculator 46.4 mpg avg. By my own calculation 51.3 (mileage/gallons) It bears mentioning that I'm pretty rough on the bike while commuting, I almost always do baby 3 inch wheelies leaving red lights and ride fairly aggressively. I would guess in the fifties for a sane person on average.
I am for sure going to put one on this thing, it's just too long of a throw for me. My biggest hang up right now is I can't decide which grips I want to go with. Thanks for checking it out!
Nice review man, I have a 2015 with 8,000 miles on it and I love mine but the transmission is clunky. Not a big deal really. Any chance that you would be from Alabama?
Aw, how'd you know? Yeah, NE Alabama to be specific. And from what I'm gathering most people are experiencing the same as us on the trans. Just a Yamaha thing I suppose
Hi-Viz Smiley I’m from South Alabama but ride up your way a lot, from the video looked to be around the Guntersville area. Love it up there. Got to be just a Yamaha thing. Still love my love mine though.
perfect review for a potential buyer, and maybe the best one on this bike
Thanks for the super kind words! Made my day!
If you're taller make sure you give the SV650 some consideration. You can find them in great shape for $2,500-$3,000 often with less than 10,000 miles. My 07 is great around town but I get cramped on longer rides. It's a compact bike
how tall are you if you don't mind me asking?
I never leave RUclips comments but I really appreciate your videos and attitude. Found your channel as I'm researching the fz-07 and have really enjoyed watching them. Keep up the great work.
Jeff Hauser Thats awesome Jeff, your kind words really encourage me to keep going forward! I wish you well in your bike purchase(s) and hope you stick around, glad to have you!
Subscribed for the accent! Stayed for all the informative videos...
Keep it up!
Baseballfanatic360 You're too kind! Thanks homie!
I love this guy's voice
was of very good use to me, my friend. thank you. you were right: i've been considering this bike for a while now, and ive never heard anyone say anything about the transmission. definitely not a dealbreaker, but good to know.
Makar Lock So glad to hear that I helped! The positives FAR outweigh the negatives but it all bears mentioning. Good luck on a bike and stick around!
Absolutely love mine, learned wheelies on a grom over the winter time and the fz is a freakin hoot to ride. The torque/sound is amazing!
Nick C It's really good at putting a smile on your face, you've got that right! You've got two sweet hooligan bikes, congrats
Out of all the reviews I've watched, your review helped me the most. Thanks!
I'm switching to synthetic on the next oil change, I heard it works wonders
I use synthetic in everything , even my lawn mowers. It doesn't work miracles though. You're still going to have a 1st gear clunk, just a normal one
Subscribed!
Thanks man! It's just hard to beat these naked bikes lately, especially the FZ because of the torque and character they have. Glad to have you bro!
Hi-Viz Smiley between you and Jakethegardensnake... I made up my mind, and went and bought a brand new leftover 2017 FZ07 last week. Love it so far!
Just make sure it's JASO / wet clutch rated.
loved your review and subscribed. i have a 2016 fz-07 as well and i do not find the transmission clanky. i find neutral easy and it shifts beautifully and smoothly. had an fz-09 and sold it because i hated the throttle by wire. the fz-07 is throttle by cable. so much smoother and not at all twitchy. keep up the great job.
hey man,it's a great review!
it helps me a lot to think about get one of those.
safe ride,have fun with it!
WOOOHOOO!
my lad is buying one next week, the best review i have seen yet, i thought my welsh accent was funny but boy yours wins hands down lol
Aw shoot I like a welsh accent too, I love all accents really. I didn't even realize I had much of one until this video took off and that's been like 50% of the comments haha, it's just normal around here. Thanks man for the kind words, I hope your friend enjoys it!
Dude that's was a great review with no BS or nonsense of any kind 👍
I sure appreciate the kind words man, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Best FZ 07 review I've watched!
Hell yeah Kyle! Hope it's trouble free and you get a great bike, I'll be keeping an eye on Insta
That's crazy! I'd assume the R1 gets rode more often, but I guess with two of the best sounding bikes in the world either choice is a good one!
loved the refreshing point of view on the bike.
Bought my FZ (MT in South Africa today) loved your video, keep going man!
Dude, as a yankee, I love listening to you talk, man! Great review and I totally agree! I love my ‘18! (but keeping the rims clean is impossible!)
We love hearing y'all talk as well! Ride safe my friend
You mean like this?
www.cycleworld.com/yamaha-t7-tenere-concept-might-be-our-favorite-bike-at-eicma
Bare-E Raws , I really hope that happens.
YES! I've seen that bike but not an in-depth article of it. That's awesome, I hope they put it in production. Here's the DT-07 goo.gl/N2RzO0
One of the best reviews and I've just about watched all of them. Thanks.
No, thank you my friend!
What’s up man. Appreciate the honest opinion. Was considering on gettin’ the FZ, and after viewing ur vid, am closer on making the deal. Keep on keepin’ on and safe while ur at it.
I'm glad you got some use out of it homie. Whichever way you go, ride safe!
One of my favorite reviews for this bike.
Thanks homie, glad you liked it! Stick around!
Cool, I will 👊🏽
I do 600 miles a week out here in California. The damn bike is a beast, considering that you take good care of it this bike should last you a long time. Hopefully more first time riders consider this bike as their first!
Tony Elizarraras Right on! I don't get to put that kind of mileage on mine, but I enjoy it the same. Keep it rubber side down brotha!
I love the accent, the flow of ideas and the pacing. Ty for the vid
edit: and the camera angle :)
Thanks homie, I really appreciate it. I actually just put out a vid on my camera mounting system if you're curious about what exactly is going on there. Thanks for watching!
Just bought this bike.......can't wait to ride it
Rich Leaman Congrats man! They sure are sweet, ride safe out there!
Damn I want to ride in the country roads like that!
I'm getting this exact bike today and I can't lie, coming from a 08 CBR 1000, I'm really excited!!
Congrats man, hope it went well!
@@HiVizSmiley the guy who was selling it ended up raising the price so I had to let her go :( i got a 2011 cbr 600 instead
No shame in that, CBR's are fantastic bikes as you know. Congrats dude
I appreciate the kind words homie, that's exactly what I was going for. Thanks for watching!
Currently about to switch from a 1000 to this and i gotta say. This made me feel pretty good about it
Dude, what a great review! Instantly smashed that like and subscription. Keep doing what you're doing.
Appreciate it man! As long as you guys enjoy it I'll keep it coming!
Keep up the great videos just picked up a 2018 mt 07 love the bike. Nice to see honest review.
Thanks man, I sure appreciate it!
I just bought this exact model for my first bike. Thanks for the video, looking forward to more!
36trooper Congrats! And don't worry, I've got more coming. Be safe out there!
Just the kind of review I was looking for. Thanks.
Solid honest review. Nice job!
Thanks a bunch, means a lot coming from you!
Great review, and some beautiful scenery you have there!
Thanks! I really do have it good here in the boonies. No traffic and some beautiful mountain roads. Thanks for checking it out!
I picked up my new 2017 FZ-07 today. Awesome bike for the money. It is a major upgrade from the KLR650. The KLR is a pack mule. The FZ is a refined thoroughbred.
Congrats man! A man with good taste I see
Thanks for the review!
I'll gently nudge my brother toward a gray one when he buys his :D
I brought it home on Saturday, just finished the 100 mile break-in tonight.
Drew Kosonen That's what I love to hear man! Glad you're enjoying it, stay safe out there!
Such an awesome video!! Thanks so much, I really really have been wanting this bike in my garage for my first motorcycle!
Thank you for the kind words, and I hope you're able to get it or any other bike!
Congrats friend, and you couldn't be more accurate! Stay safe out there
Lol... know some one who says it's got excellent top end..😅
Booha,ha,ha... i mean ok....
Appreciate the honest review!
Welton Outdoors I appreciate you watching!
Hi-Viz Smiley well I just bought an fz07 and most review videos about these bikes are made by salesman and people who just want to make videos and say everything is great I love it when they haven't even ridden anything else! So watching your video helped me out!
Well congrats man! I'm glad I could help, if you have any questions about it in the future just holler at me! Stay safe out there
LOVE that color scheme, especially the high viz wheels
100% best part of the bike. Part of me hates that they only did it for one year but then the other part of me loves how exclusive they are.
Bought mine after this review. And love my Fz can't wait to pay if off and put 100 thousand miles on it
Shoot yeah! Ride the crap out of it man, she can take it!
Placed a deposit for one not long ago, which will be my first motorcycle. Thanks for the review! Stay safe.
You're most certainly welcome, thanks for watching it! Good luck and be careful out there!
Great review, honest and to the point.
Thank you for being honest bro. I subscribed and liked great video this is going to be my first bike I can’t wait
I'm all about not being a d-bag, so honesty goes with it haha. Thanks for watching and good luck on the bike!
I've had more Yamahas than any other bike, I can't knock them. But the shifting thing is the reason I bought the GSX S750.... Insanely smooth shifting!!
I can see it turning people off of the FZ. At least you got a fun naked still! Thanks for checking my vid and channel out!
Doesn't the lack of a windshield push you back hard ? I've never ridden a bike without a shield so I'm wondering.
Like dat accent. Great video. You actually came to a full stop at 5:10 - more people should do that.
Thank you sir! I try not to be a complete goober ALL the time, I do try to use my blinkers and stop etc.
That colour combo is insanely mint
Carp Spudpicker 100% The only ones that compare are the 18's blue and the 19's red.
Good review I can't wait to get mine
Paul Jones Thanks! Good luck, you'll love it!
I live the video! I'm 19 and looking into getting my first bike.. It looks like a ton of fun!!
Us country boys have to stick together!
0:30 ... beautiful machine... tomorrow i´m gonna buy one.
Peti Hajdú Thanks! I love it as well. Good luck on your purchase! Keep it rubber side down!
You didn’t buy one did you?
Hi Viz I tried to increase my CO 1,2,&3 from my LCD. Couldn't get in. I'm pressing both buttons same time. Nothing happens. Help
Does this bike have different power modes for newer riders? I heard this is a great first bike and im thinking of getting it as a first bike, but it would be nice to start off in a lower mode and then as I get more confident can simply increase it.
Great review dude! Thank you for the honesty
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it
@@HiVizSmiley did you already bought an Akrapovic or Yoshimura full system? I want this bike with the full akra system but the ECU needs to be flashed most say. Seems quite expensive!
@@DonGH297 I've got a black widow full system on it, with a DNA filter/airbox and a tune. I rode it for maybe 3 miles with just the exhaust and filter, and it wasn't happy or running right. After I flashed the ecu it was a whole nother bike, world of difference
@@HiVizSmiley that's Nice to hear! Is flashing just setting up the ECU or tuning the ECU? And was it expensive for you?
There's many different ways of going about it. You can have the ecu flashed with a pre-made tune or even have a custom dyno tune at a shop, or you can buy kits that allow you to flash the ecu at home. I made a video on the tuning deal I bought, I wanna say it was 300 or 400 bucks. It is definitely worth it though
Great review. Very honest. I would for sure pick one of these up cause I think most engines on cheap 650's are a bit clunky in general so I would be ok with that.
Thanks adam, I sure appreciate it.
Thanks man
Regards
I really don’t have many options regarding bikes because I am not the tallest person in the world, I can barely reach the floor with both of my feet in my R3 but I think I'll be fine with the MT-07
Thanks for taking the time to respond man!
Ride safe
Thanks for the honest review. Would you recommend this for a new rider?
Absolutely. Albeit, with care because it's right at the upper level of what you'd want to start with, but with respect would be just fine.
I just bought a 2016 FZ-07 in armor gray. And all of my safety gear is hi-viz yellow. You're like my long, lost Southern twin! :P
Blitz6804 A brother from another mother! My man!
Biggest problem? I've already got a pile of parts to put on it, and I haven't even taken delivery yet! XD Fender eliminator, tail light, tank pads, windscreen... what have I done?
Blitz6804 Ive actually been a good boy with mods on this one. Soon as my wife gets off maternity leave though, its on!
I haven't... i.imgur.com/95IznRz.jpg Windshield, hand guards, (cup holder), phone holder, USB charger, fender eliminator, all turn signals...
Nearing 250mi myself, taking it in tomorrow to get the chain adjusted to lose the chatter.
Blitz6804 Nice mods list you got going there!
Helpful to a new rider. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Was watching this as I plan on getting this model in the next year and the twisties you went on is one of the first places I wanted to take it..In other words I was freaking out, as that spot is like 15 minutes from me
TCauzzi That's so awesome? You from Gadsden?
I'm in the Gadsden area yes, specifically Rainbow City.
TCauzzi Sweet! I used to work in RBC.
For real? Where at?
“How cool I feel when I ride it” 😂😂
The FZ-07 would be on my list, but right now I still love my 2007 Kawasaki 650R plasma blue. I'll try to send you a photo of my Kawa.
I have 5-10 bikes I drool over every day, no shame in that! Shoot yeah send me a picture, I don't know if I've seen one that color
I thought if you were on Facebook I could have sent you an email, but can't this way without your email address. Also I've heard people compare FZ-07 to Yamaha RD 400 which I have had 2.
Shoot it to me at smileyrides24@gmail.com
Man that thing is clean! Low miles and looks brand new, really sharp bike man.
I had a 2009 Kawasaki 650r in green it was a nice bike but the fz07 is 10x better to me more power and sounds like it’s pissed off 24/7
good review, i'm thinking of getting one.
DO IT! They really are awesome bikes. Thanks for the compliment homie!
Wow that's freaking cool! I know what kind of videos I'm going to be looking up all day now haha
good review, but regarding torque monster honda nc750x puts 68nM at 4750rpm while FZ-07 at 6500 so nc750x is a real monster :) unfortunately power is a bit lacking.
Love this review. Just subed!
Thanks man!
Great review, now I wanna go buy one !
goldengloves36123 Do it! Thanks for the kind words
If all goes well tomorrow I will be the owner of a 2017 FZ-07!
goldengloves36123 shoot yeah! thats what I'm talking about! Good luck tomorrow and be safe out there
That accent is so heavy and easy to understand, never heard anything like it
Do you find it is more noise from 2 to 3 gear?.
I would say so. I don't hear it in the higher gears. Thanks for checking it out!
I just bought a 2016 fz07 brand new and I'm glad you mentioned the clunky shifting, I was thinking it was just mine
Great review man, subscribed
Thank you sir!
If you don’t mind me asking, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? I’m looking to get a FZ-07! Thanks
i'm in between the fz-07 and the Ninja 650. any opinions there?
I like the FZ's engine and looks far better than the Ninja. For me the character of the FZ trumps everything else in the category. Thanks for checking it out, and sweet username!
Both great bikes. Hard to go wrong with either one. I considered the FZ/MT07 but went with a N400 to get a fairing. Considered the N650 as well but didn’t seem like the power to weight ratio was going to be a whole lot better. N650 has more torque for sure.
what's the honest to goodness consumer report on the gas mileage? I know that Yamaha is touting the 58 mpg but what could I honestly expect?
I seriously have never once checked it, and it even has a mileage thing in the dash. I did reset both it and the trip meter the last time I filled it op so I'll let you know. Thanks for checking it out!
Hi-Viz Smiley thanks! looking forward to it.
According to the on-board calculator 46.4 mpg avg. By my own calculation 51.3 (mileage/gallons)
It bears mentioning that I'm pretty rough on the bike while commuting, I almost always do baby 3 inch wheelies leaving red lights and ride fairly aggressively. I would guess in the fifties for a sane person on average.
some people have been putting on a r6 throttle tube and claim its the best upgrade
