My stylo is one of my favorite corals. I bought a skinny $20 stick that ballooned into a huge colony growing up to the surface of the water. My stunner stings the hell out of anything 6" or less away from it. Almost killed an entire pocilopora, started to sting my red/orange monti cap so bad I had to rearrange the cap. I regret putting it where it is now. It kept getting knocked off the rocks by crabs and whatnot so I found this little crevice on a rock that sits dead center and high up in my tank. Fast forward a couple of months and it's 3x the size and encrusted all over the top of the rock. I'm pretty much planning on keeping it, trimming it when needed, and using it as a shelf to place frags on. A couple of strategically placed pieces of rubble and dome reef glue have saved the lives of the coral around it now so I figure I could continue that and just have a cool-looking shelf.
I love how your chromis hide in the pink hystrix. It reminds me of how these fish behave in the wild with acropora colony’s, but you never see that behavior in the aquarium. Great video Evan, thanks for sharing!
THanks Evan! Refreshing to hear from an OG reefer who truly appreciates corals, not just the gucci corals. I have many of the same in my tanks. - Roli from down the street in Wheat Ridge
I like this video because it is similar to the Tank Spotlight videos which are my favorite. It's been awhile since the last videos, I know it's hard with Covid. I love seeing people's personal tanks that they put all of themselves into. It's very interesting to see them walk through every coral, piece of equipment, and fish, and hear them explain all of their decisions and methods. I just started May 2020 so those videos are very inspiring.
This is one of the best reef scapes to me I've seen by far. Much better than most of the high end reefs showcased on this and other youtube reefer channels. Why, because it doesn't have dozens and dozens of different corals growing in a patchwork of relatively small sizes. Reefs don't look like that in nature. They look more like this! As a diver who has seen some of the greatest reefs in the world in person, this is they kind of layout I want to build when I start keeping tanks again. Even in the largest of tanks, I think they look best when dominated by no more than half a dozen different corals that are grown out large. I wish more people would follow this philosophy.
Your tank is Fire! Great job from the last update you did it's just gorgeous brother. You have s point these corals are more affordable and even more beautiful than some of the big dollar colonies that fade out . Great video ✌💜
I love those types of corals, my aquarium is dominated by them, much easier to grow from frags to big colonies and make your aquarium look great. I try multiple times the imported from Indonesia or Australia sps’s but without success, they drive for 6 months until year and they are gone. I stopped wasting money and time on them and now only such great old timers or aquaculture. Awesome aquarium!
Awesome video and tank I have a 94 gallon aquarium that's 5 months old and one day I will start adding corals but right now I'm waiting for my tank to grow up lol so far since August 23 when I did a water changes my parameters are ph 8.0, ammonia is always at 0PPM, n02 0ppm, n03 0ppm, MG 1290, CA 380, kh 10.5, phosphates 0.00ppm. And I 7 fish in the tank so I don't know if my tank parameters are low because I started fishless cycle with dry rocks
Dammmmmmm this is amazing I just bought my first 150 gallon aquarium and am really exciting about it and I would love to buy another one with just coral and fish.
Beautiful tank. Surprised you don't have red dragon or hawkins or strawberry SC, Another classic is my favorite Ora pearlberry Blue Tort, lots of classic SPS. Hardy and chsap. Thanks for sharing your ocean box.
Plating Montipora is always a majestic piece. I have pulled out beauties to pass on just to watch the stumps regrow and reshape the environment. Once it finds its groove, it just grows beautifully.
nice i plan to have all of those in my setup first time keeping corals. i don't want the gps and star coral tho. what is that acro infront of the stylo tho :D
Purple stylos are under rated. I know we all have a soft spot for caps, but orange caps have filled up my local reef stores and they cant give them away. Idaho grapes though are uncommon. Just my opinion, but maybe pull one of the front caps and start a couple different common milliporas.
Your reef is stunning..you're vision of a reef is like mine. I don't like the styles that look like frag tanks. Soon as I figure out how to put a pic on your comments I will share mine with you bro. Well done..loved your video
If a coral dies what solutions could there be? Obviously removing it from the tank comes first but I'm wondering if I could have a coral tank while working 4 weeks away from home? I'm only just starting to look into this. I know some angelfish and also shrimps and crabs eat the coral and I could have an automatic water change, possibly each week encase a coral dies? I'll Obviously have to learn a lot more about how there kept but just wondered if someone with experience could give a quick opinion on if it could be done?
I am looking on the web but cant find something... is there a tank that could be rectangle but long like a column?? I would love that to own with medusa inside only.
On a 1200lt tank and a 900lt how many animals i could host along with corals?? I love all animals ive seen till now... snails...all fishes... shrimps...seahorses...stings...crabs...
Anemona and coral is different?? I saw one like these i like that moves...and it changed place by itself!!! It looked like a tall mushroom moving... I liked that... Also on a tank like this isnt it necessarry that you have also plants inside?
That’s a question that I have for years , why and where this High End corals came from ? That’s a beautiful tank with no HE whatsoever, in mho I don’t think is necessary to spend money in corals that are very easy to die or so call high end, great tank bud
very nice tank, knowing you can create a tank like that without the need for the high end wizzy named corals in the shop is encourageing. just didnt catch thename of the nice looking coral at time stamp 8.00,
A good topic for you to explore at some point would be End Of Life planning as relates to reef tanks, especially with those of us who have larger systems. Many of us are older and all of us will become older, we hope. What will happen to Mike’s, Andrew’s, Sanjay’s, etc tanks when they die?
Keeping the classics will help anyone have an awesome reef and avoid a lot of heartache and unnecessary expense.... setting up a tank with only fancy acro micro frags and wild LPS imports like euphillia... ui ui ui... might loose a few here and there and unfairly feel like a bad reefer or quit
My favorite corals are the ones that become classics of a particular area. For example, in my area there's not much of a coral scene but there's a particular RBTA clone that-and this is not an exaggeration-splits about once a week. You literally cannot get people to take them off your hands, because they've got 20 already! While I'm here, shameless plug for r/AffordableReefTank, a respite from the hype-dominated social media world and a place to discuss old school reefing methods that are accessible to anyone.
This is helpful for 'real world' reefers.
Thanx

Great looking tank! These corals are why I got into the hobby. 13 years later, I still love them!
You’re right, these are the sps corals that kept me excited about the hobby. Great looking reef!
THanks Evan! Refreshing to hear from an OG reefer who truly appreciates corals, not just the gucci corals. I have many of the same in my tanks. - Roli from down the street in Wheat Ridge
You are the only reef channel with intro music that I don’t skip over. Thank you, sir, thank you! 🥲

Hey Evan - great to "see" you. (been too long with all the cancelled MACNAs) Tank looks fantastic! Enjoyed the update.

Love these corals. My tank is at least 70% old fashioned SPS.
Love this reeftank, you done an outstanding job taking care of these animals, keep up the good work

Beuatiful tank.Van k ask what light you use and whats your daylight color setting?

Gen 4 radions don’t remember specifically what color setting but I just went with something that looked good to my eye

Great video and well spoken Evan 👍
That intro though!! Da best. I had to play it again and was better than the first time lol.
I always find it funny how your voice sounds like Jake's to me. Maybe it's a Colorado accent thing.😆
Great classic reef.👍🏾
They sound exactly the same lol
So true...so true 🤣
love this tank from corals to fish selection!!
Evan awesome tank. you and Jake have been very busy doing videos lately. thanks. are you guys going to reefapolloza Chicago this yr?
Dammmmmmm this is amazing I just bought my first 150 gallon aquarium and am really exciting about it and I would love to buy another one with just coral and fish.
Nothing like the classics 👍👍👍 beautiful tank
Great video, always enjoy when you make vids on your tank
What a great looking setup!
Classic corals are the best man Nice aquarium

I have some of those in the frag tank. Nice chunk of red dragon…just not “display worthy” yet.
Great video. I keep a refugium with all xenia, nearly no nutrients👍🏻
What a spectacular Reef tank! please, if you can write down the names of the corals, as some I couldn't understand in the video, thank you very much!
ur intro music has always been awesome 👍👍👍
Plating Montipora is always a majestic piece. I have pulled out beauties to pass on just to watch the stumps regrow and reshape the environment. Once it finds its groove, it just grows beautifully.
Great looking tank, lovely fish to. Loving the lava lamp as well :-)
nice i plan to have all of those in my setup first time keeping corals. i don't want the gps and star coral tho.

Spectacular tank Evan.
Nice I was just giving a red Monti and A red dragon large pieces and they look awesome.
What a fantastic looking tank 👌 love that! Really established corals
Great work !!
You need to make a longer video of just the tank no talking, very beautiful tank!
Great looking tank Evan. It's been a while man. How have things been since RAP Orlando?
Great video! 😀👍
bEAUTIFUL tank. Agree with the blue spec...Btw what are the green and reddish plating corals again?
Great Video.
Love those corals and their growth. Don't need mega dollars for amazing corals.
Purple stylos are under rated. I know we all have a soft spot for caps, but orange caps have filled up my local reef stores and they cant give them away. Idaho grapes though are uncommon. Just my opinion, but maybe pull one of the front caps and start a couple different common milliporas.
Well done brother can’t beat a mature reef tank 🙏🏽
Love this tank!! Great job, man.

Nice Music, were can i get it?
Great classic corals
When you say hype corals, do you mean like artificially produced color variants or just exotic species?
I am looking on the web but cant find something... is there a tank that could be rectangle but long like a column?? I would love that to own with medusa inside only.
Amazing tank! Corals are beautiful!
On a 1200lt tank and a 900lt how many animals i could host along with corals?? I love all animals ive seen till now... snails...all fishes... shrimps...seahorses...stings...crabs...
what percent do you run the radions on Evan? :D
Great vid, luv your prospective!
How can you construct this?? You take a rock and then you use glue and put the corals on it??
Anemona and coral is different?? I saw one like these i like that moves...and it changed place by itself!!! It looked like a tall mushroom moving... I liked that... Also on a tank like this isnt it necessarry that you have also plants inside?

Hi end simply means high price. Money grab. All comes from the same place, the ocean.
How many liters of this aquarium?
What are your par levels on the bottom of the tank?
Been a long while since I’ve measured. Might do a video next time I do that
Where did you get the stunner?
Local guy that lives nearby
Any nipping issues with the Regal Angel
The only thing I see him pick at is my one patch of zoas. However only when I’ve been slacking on feeding. When he’s well fed he’s a model citizen
Beautiful 🤩
please can you show me the stone buildings at he beginning without corals
what variety is it ocellaris?
Sea & Reef Aquaculture longfins
What size tank?
I love this tank and these corals!!! 👍
Very beautiful aquarium
Love the tank
parabéns pelo o aquário esta maravilhoso!!!
That starry blenny is stealing the show!! Ever consider merging the two montis?
They’re about to do it on their own if I don’t intervene
Pretty nice tank!❤️👍
Outstanding presentation & commentary. Thank you very much! 🎉😊
Clean!
Can’t beat the classics
Great coral health 👍
Would love to see something like this with a Euphyllia tank
Killer tank dude.
Peep the regal angel in the same tank as a clam! That's crazy!
Maybe got lucky with him…keep him full with flake food and mysis
@@EvanMontgomery yea most regals I’ve dealt with were really picky and would only eat clams on a half shell. Beautiful fish!
very nice tank, knowing you can create a tank like that without the need for the high end wizzy named corals in the shop is encourageing.
just didnt catch thename of the nice looking coral at time stamp 8.00,
Spring stunner “Echinopora”. AKA Hollywood stunner. Most people refer to it as a chalice but we’re trying to get away from that nomenclature
Beautiful aquarium
Great video

Your tank is amazing. Love your long fin clowns do they bite you? My male bit me yesterday 🤬
Only when there’s food in my fingers ;)

v nice xenia is my favorite
i had some really cool blue mushrooms
they took over the tank 😂didnt survive the move though
Come on Jake. Not all budgets. This is an expensive hobby.
Beautiful tank tho
The best corals are classics just like old cars
MY DREAM AND GOLD IS TO GROW MONTIPORA ON MY NANO AND MY 75 GAL I ON STARTING TO WORK ON NOW ,A TANK IS NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT MONTIPORA
Only critique, friends don't let friends put xenia in their tank, regardless of wanting movement or how much of a beginner they are 🤣🤣
LOL This is true.
