- North Captiva Island, off the southwest coast of Florida, is reaching out into the warm Gulf waters. Steady south and westerly winds have created a long, thin sandbar that provides visitors an unusual new nature path. We don't know how long it will last, but the ever-shifting sands of our island never cease to amaze us.
That's remarkable! We were just there last fall, on that very beach, and it looked nothing like that!
How will wind and waves not tear that up?
When was this taken? Last time I was there, two years ago, the sandbar was mostly not there.
