Thank You, Mr. Lee! Just one question: Do carriers of the sickle cell disease have codominant alleles(They produce some normal and some mutant hemoglobin)? If the alleles weren't codominant, the recessive sickle cell disease allele would have been masked by the dominant normal allele, right?
This is interesting computational genes. I wonder if worry and distress can cause cell mutations as well as toxic environmental factors. I dare say lack of vitamin D might cause cell mutation. I wonder are there any benefits in cell mutations that become cancerous and contain toxic poison in one place hence a tumour, Sadly we have not found any safe way of isolating it. Cancer can live without oxygen, (in fact oxygen may hurt the cancer such as exercise or diving)cancer feeds on sugar, doesn't die as it is meant to die, (apoptosis). But I wonder why is that. Though I have heard cancer is a metabolic disease not genetically inherited. Controversial issue but would make sense if parents genes are defective then surely there is probability there children's health would be compromised. Bottom line is that it's hard for us to prevent toxins entering our body as it is in the water, atmosphere food and drink, and many medications. Brilliant lecture thank you! So basically if a mosquito bites person with sickle cell Anemia it might die or be repelled. Interesting repellent or do you mean it's the person that will not be effected by the bite? Personally speaking mosquitos are dependant on oxygenated blood cells. Sickle-cell Anemia, cell is as you mention depleted of oxygen and the mosquito is not anaerobic. So if they are about, hold your breath until they vanish like the killer bees. Only what I think of course. I wonder if DDT caused them to suffocate. Now of course via natural selection they have built their own immunities to it but dare say it would still repel them.
