@Mark (217maka) The emphasis is on the "vain," not the repetition. Repeating a prayer is only wrong if the prayer is said without Christian faith. In fact, I would say it is one of His primary preaching techniques. Also, St. Paul says he has fathered spiritual children in the faith. I'm new to Catholicism, and I would love some guidance on pausing in prayer. I get distracted a lot during my Rosary. Is it okay if I pause it and say the Jesus prayer and come back, or do I need to restart the Rosary? I've also been haunted by demons and if anyone would like to pray for me, I'd really appreciate it. God reworks everything for good. I don't know that I'd have found Him otherwise. No need to re-start the rosary. Our Mother knows how easily little children get distracted. One suggestion to help you focus: Look up "Prayers of the Holy Rosary," or "Joyful,( or Luminous,Sorrowful,Glorious) mysteries of the Rosary" here on You-Tube. There are literally COUNTLESS "pray along" rosary videos for you to choose from. Some of them are just audio, some pre-recorded in a Church, and some of them, my personal favorites, actually show a "movie" about whatever mystery you are praying. It's amazing! It feels like you're back in time, right there with Jesus & Mary. For instance, if you're praying the Joyful mysteries, while doing the 1st decade you'll be watching a scene about the Archangel Gabriel going to bring the message that She has been chosen to be the Mother of God. I can recommend one that moves me the most. Punch in "Shirley Pace Holy Rosary." You'll then be able to check them out to see if they inspire you. Oh..and check Rosaries with "Fr. I'll keep you in prayer as far as the demons attack. I'm ALL TOO FAMILIAR with THAT too! Just remember to ask St.Michael to kick their butts back into Hell. And one of the strongest weapons against the evil ones is the ROSARY! Demons flee at the Holy Name of Mary!

I’m a protestant who started to get closer to God and I started to pray to God and ask what church do you want me to go to Lord and all the sudden I wanted to learn more about the church about the church history I didn’t even know there was something called church fathers. I started to look at the history of the church, and I found out there were something called orthodox Christians. I can’t explain it but my heart gets pulled to the orthodox church. I don’t know why. Orthodox Christianity is very foreign to me. The only explanation I can come up with is that it’s God leading me that way. I started to do the Jesus prayer every morning no matter what. I also do it when I feel the need to sin or need to center my self through the day. I have a ten bead prayer rope or rosary? I don’t know what it would be called. But now even just holding it I know it may sound weird but it feels almost like a weapon. The priest said sometimes bad things creep into our thought and it’s true. One day I was praying the Jesus prayer and vividly I could see a woman with a burnt face staring back at me mad. I was not afraid I stared back at her saying the Jesus prayer over and over again smiling because I didn’t feel fear. I don’t know why my thoughts brought that vision up but I was amazed how clear she was without me even thinking of anything like my mind went there.
The more I get into my spirituality and focus more and more on my relationship with God and do his WIll the more I realize how right this guy is on pretty much everything. God Himself calls Eliakim a “father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem” (Isaiah 22:21). And in recognition of fatherly spiritual leadership, the prophet Elisha calls out to the prophet Elijah, “My father! My father!” (2 Kings 2:12). Later, the king of Israel called the prophet Elisha “father” (2 Kings 6:21). When these men demonstrate godly leadership, Scripture does not hesitate to call each one of them “father”. Quote- “apostle John recognized his spiritual fatherhood, by calling the members of a church his “children” (1 John 2:1). And Paul speaks this way many times, calling church members his “children” (2 Corinthians 12:14), and his “little children” (Galatians 4:19). Thank you Father! This has encouraged me to recommit myself to a rule of prayer. I have set an alarm for me to start saying the Jesus prayer for 10 minutes in the evening. Also set an alarm for my evening prayers so I do them before I get tired.
Oh father, you're so full of love, wisdom, and the holy spirit. It's a pleasure to hear your reflections. God has blessed you, and us to have your presence guiding us.
I'm a Catholic & I sometimes use my rosary beads as a prayer rope on which to pray the Jesus Prayer. I haven't done so in a while, but I'll do so now, making sure to focus my thoughts on the words & their meaning. Thank you for the reminder & wise advice, Father.
I am Catholic and I pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy with my Rosary beads. Apart from this, sometimes during the day I pray the Jesus prayer without using a prayer rope, just with my mouth or through my head. What I'm wondering is this: Many orthodox priests or monks whose videos I watch on RUclips say that they perform this prayer using chotki/komboskini and that they have multiple prayer ropes ranging from 33 to 300 beads. At the same time, they say that we should pray this prayer continuously throughout the day, from morning to night (referring to the verse "pray without ceasing" in the Bible). If I'm going to do this at any time during the day, then I probably don't need a certain number of prayer rope. But I'm curious about your experiences. Is it more efficient to pray this prayer a certain number of times a day with a prayer rope, or whenever I can do it without using any rope? How do you do it and which one do you get more efficiency from?
Yes, I agree 100% with the importance of this practice. This is what retains your presence and life as a being created in the image of God, and prevents the world from dragging you down and under. It is like the Africa wildlife videos where an animal goes to the water to drink. As long as we are in a state of prayer, we are safe from all the dangers. But the moment we are not, the crocodile will leap up from the water and pull us down and under. I am very surprised to hear these teachings offered by a form of Christianity. I don't know of any other form of Christianity that teaches these things. These are practices of monks and nuns, those that are truly dedicated. Even if you can do this for only an hour each day. If you can dedicate a whole day to it, it is well worth the effort. If it becomes a permanent state of your being, so that you are ever present, and never again submerged by the world, then there is nothing further that can be done. That is everlasting life. Being present, without interruption or disturbance. Death cannot touch such a being, and no Evil can deceive it. I don't know Fr Spyridon's view, but I understand this to be sainthood. So it seems to me. This practice is my greatest effort and commitment in life. There is always time for it. It is first on my mind as I wake, and last on my mind before sleep. And an arduous struggle to maintain throughout the day. But it bears good fruit.
@Isaac Brian Denny study the Bible mmore friend. This quote was debunked a billion times within the Bible itself, when Paul for example addresses his recipients as his children in the Faith.

Throughout the Bible, godly men are called “father”. Joseph was a wise counselor, and was therefore a “father to Pharaoh” (Genesis 45:8). Job said he was a “father to the poor” (Job 29:16).

And Paul speaks this way many times, calling church members his “children” (2 Corinthians 12:14), and his “little children” (Galatians 4:19).
Perhaps the clearest mention of spiritual fatherhood comes from the apostle Paul: “I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children.

Thank you Father! This has encouraged me to recommit myself to a rule of prayer. I have set an alarm for me to start saying the Jesus prayer for 10 minutes in the evening. Also set an alarm for my evening prayers so I do them before I get tired.
Found this helpful video on how to pray the Jesus prayer. ruclips.net/video/rSkyAdKxNGY/видео.html
Oh father, you're so full of love, wisdom, and the holy spirit. It's a pleasure to hear your reflections. God has blessed you, and us to have your presence guiding us.
Lifting up our daily duties and recreation to God can help. Doing everything in a godly holy way
Thank you. That is a great point.
I'm a Catholic & I sometimes use my rosary beads as a prayer rope on which to pray the Jesus Prayer. I haven't done so in a while, but I'll do so now, making sure to focus my thoughts on the words & their meaning. Thank you for the reminder & wise advice, Father.
Christ is Risen!
I felt vulnerable so I came here to remember who was crucified for our fate. Loved this
Discipiline, (mind) self control and.. humility.. thats 3 values that we can exercise from this Jesus Prayer..
I need that
@MaybeSo MaybeNot I needed that too lol
“Imagination is often a product of the passions.” Fr Bailey. So true.
Thank you! Father. HE HAS RISEN INDEED! Greg USA
“God and your mind will become heaven”, thank you......I have much work to do.
Helpful as always, thank you father ❤🙏
Such wisdom, thank you Father 🙏☦️
Thank you, Father Spyridon!! I follow your suggestions!! I am grateful for these videos!!!
I needed this, thank you. It's also nice to see you smile, father!
Have ocd
Say the Jesus Prayer when intrusive thoughts come up
Poof they're gone
Wasted my time in years of therapy
Thank you Father, this was a very good instruction God Bless you and may Jesus and the Holy Spirit watch over you. ☦️
Christ is risen, father. Thank you for your words.
@Isaac Brian Denny study the Bible mmore friend. This quote was debunked a billion times within the Bible itself, when Paul for example addresses his recipients as his children in the Faith.
@@emmanuelsoto2476 I'm sorry. I don't care to debate you. I'm not a clergy man so it's not my duty. Go find an appropriate place to do that or just study with discernment yourself. My comment and this video are for Orthodox people. Your coming here to bothers me is a signal of the Devil's work in you. May God straighten your path
In Dutch: "Heer Jezus Christus, ontferm U over ons."
I am dutch but can you translate .
I really needed this. Thanks.
As a Protestant am I ok to use a prayer rope? My prayer life is bad. Where do I get one?
Amazon, and you can use it
Thank you Father, through your message i am inspired to seek God in my life. Born as an orthodox-christian i have attended church and learned the scriptures of Christ. But now, i seek a deeper relationship with God and want to pray everyday and forgive my sins and those who trespass against me.
Again, thank you
It just means to be aware or in presence. Detachment from thought and feelings
Learn to be still, learn to know awareness without thought, The key is awareness without thought you can do this at any moment just look and listen no thinking involved. It’s what us contemplatives call divine awareness. The past is history, The future is yet to be, Father make this holy moment the best. You know God does provide when we learn to get out of the way. Faith.
Always a good message.
I prayed and prayed for that i want a deeper connection and genuine relationship with God. For wisdom and clarity as well. And now I have discovered the Jesus prayer. Аллилуия, #JesusAlwaysDeliversICXC
This is so simple, so profound, and so encouraging.
I'm also a roman Catholic but orthodox church has great wisdom and maybe closer to Jesus they have a huge respect and deeper understanding when it comes knowing our lord desires I'm so convince may be I'll be soon an Orthodox
I use my fingers as I pray ,been doing this for a long time.
It works and is such a simple thing .
Thank you Father. I confess that I have been too distracted by the issues surrounding the corona virus. And I get distracted and forget to seek the guidance from my King.
Father Spyridon, your channel is gold!
Thank you for this message today I truly found it so helpful to pray more.
Wonderful video - thank you and God be with you!
A very useful way when doing it Inwardly is trough deeply breathing in " Lord Jesus Christ, Son of The Living God" and exhaling out slowly but fully " Have mercy upon me a sinner"
I had the best experience.
Thank you! God bless you.
FATHER HOW SHOULD YOU PRAY WHEN YOUR AT WORK? SHOULD YOU PRAY IN THE CAR? SHOULD GO TO A PARK? ANY ADVICE ON THIS WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANK YOU
Sorry to jump in but answers are: Yes, Yes and Yes.
Father Spyridon, thank you for this reminder that we have to pray unceasingly to Christ..
God bless you,
Angelo
God bless you. The videos are saving my life. Praise be to God.
Excellent talk. You make the prayer sound straightforward, and yet the advice is that the Jesus prayer should not be used without a spiritual director. Are there any dangers to the use of the prayer? Any views?
You put me in such peace Father. Thank you for teaching us
God bless you, Father. You truly are a blessing upon us!
Amen
I lack obedience and to pray without ceasing usually prides stand in the way
Tank you from Ethiopia
O Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner
Thanks again Father for your words of wisdom and knowledge. I love the practical, tangible steps to take to get closer to God in these times
