- A contemporary reimagining of Henry James' novel, WHAT MAISIE KNEW tells the story of a captivating little girl's struggle for grace in the midst of her parents' bitter custody battle. Told through the eyes of the title's heroine, Maisie navigates this ever-widening turmoil with a six-year-old's innocence, charm and generosity of spirit.
An aging rock star (Moore) and a contemporary art dealer (Coogan)-Susanna and Beale are too self-involved even to notice their neglect and inadequacy as parents; their fight for Maisie is just another battle in an epic war of personalities. As they raise the stakes by taking on inappropriate new partners, the ex-nanny Margo and the much younger bartender Lincoln (Vanderham and Skarsgård), the shuffling of Maisie from household to household becomes more and more callous, the consequences more and more troubling. Always watchful, however, Maisie begins to understand that the path through this morass of adult childishness and selfish blindness will have to be of her own making.

Sweet, sad scene. A lot of us kids needed someone like Lincoln and Margo in our lives when we were growing up. He wasn't Maisie's biological father, but Lincoln was her real dad.
Well in the novel, after some time has passed she realises that her foster parents relationship is having problems and realises its heading the same way as her real parents so decides to stay with her nanny. i wish they kept that ending in this movie cos the movie ending wrapped up too neatly
@@sexydudeuk2172 You're right, although I think the movie hoped to convey a modern message of the importance of a stable family unit in a hedonistic world, whereas in the book, Maisie is more world-wise and headstrong, and better able to decide on her own what's best for her. Her foster parents mean well but are ultimately doomed to failure, while in the movie, Lincoln and Margo do love each other deeply and find themselves kindred spirits. The isolation of the seaside cottage also sets them free together in a different way. I like both versions, but they do indeed convey very different messages, and the movie deviates a great deal from the source material. It was quite odd, because the movie had a paperback "movie tie-in novel" marketed by Penguin in 2012, which was basically just the movie's theatrical poster slapped onto the printed text of the original classic book. At least it got more readers into the original story, though.
This scene is simple and powerfull at the same time.
