I've been dreaming about building this car for 20-plus years, so this has given my head time to wander and ponder on what I'd actually do if I ever got to build one. Sooooo, I went into this project with piles of ideas on designs. It's been a blast actually pushing tools around to make these ideas come to life. You have done a FANTASTIC job!!!! I love the details and color. Big kudos to you for painting it. The windshield was tough for me when I installed. It took a full day of installing and removing with gentle bending of the arms not to put any strain on the glass itself. I also paid a pro for body work and paint. I was just too scared to step off into that landmine field.
Thanks for the kind words. I love it “land mine field”. That’s EXACTLY what it felt like. One wrong move and “BOOM” everything goes wrong. I actually have a lot of work into that windshield. The windshield brackets were a solid 3/16” off. I had to bend them to shape. Scary stuff.
Hello friend: FFR #4453 here - it's been almost 20 years but my paintwork was done properly - not a single crack or fish-eye has surfaced. All the best for yours as well! 👍
Thanks! I do love the color. I know it’s a sticking point for some, and I get that. I’ve always liked the earthy tones on my cars. Definitely not a color you associate with a cobra. :)
Dude! it looks awesome. I was on the fence about the roll bar at first, but you nailed it. I really like the look now; I get a strong Viper vibe. Very solid work.
Thanks. The viper was definitely used for inspiration. I also mixed in a bit of early Porsche targa lines to get some of the proportions right in my head.
Yes slow and and steady is the trick. I’m not the most patient guy so it was a challenge not to go at the orange peel with 80 grit…. I stuck to my plan and it worked. I will say that I have about 8 hours into cutting and buffing. Took a little long than expected, but I’m happy with the results.
Hey I forgot to mention in my video that I had a hard time getting it to buff to a nice shine until I let it sit in the sun for a day to really get the clear coat to bake. I waited 4 days to cut and buff but it was only after it sat in the sun that it really buffed to a nice shine.
Not my favorite color, but I think you did a great job. The wheels fit with that color. Also, the pro's throw the cord of the buffer over their shoulders when they use them. Why not give that a try?

Putting the cord over my shoulder is exactly what I did right at the end…. Sadly. Wished I had done that earlier.
