My parents had a 74 deville when I was growing up in the 70s that they put a huge amount of miles on. Mechanically it was as robust as anything made. My parents travelled a lot at the time and it never let them down that I can remember. I know they put at least 200,000 miles on it. But the interior quality was shoddy at best, especially for a Cadillac. It was worn out after about 5 years. The carpeting disintegrated as did the vinyl on the door panels, the steering wheel trim came off, the door pulls broke regularly, plastic chrome delaminated, fit and finish wasn’t good even to my young eyes. But the engine/transmission still worked well when the got rid of it.
Not uncommon for entry level cadillacs not to have hood ornaments , an electrical truck pull , electric trunk release button in glove box or leather interior ! . . . Also you can tell when it's a entry level car from the cadillac crest being placed above the egg create grill as well as no leather interior!!! Really nice entry level cadillac for those whom wanted a cadillac in the day but wanted to shave a few dollars off of the cost of a new cadillac, back in the day !!!
This is an amazing historic car that represents everything wrong with Cadillac at the time. An old fashioned uninspired exterior and interior that only appealed to the WWII generation but was of no interest to the boomers or young Gen X that would make or brake the brand in the future. Cadillac still hasn't recovered.
My most favorite car, that I owned, was my 77 Lincoln Continental Town Car with the Cream and Cordovan Luxury Group. Sadly, I lost it to hurricane Katrina. @@orphancargarage5746
So sad that these vinyl roof coverings doomed these beauties. I wish somebody would design an alternative product or restoration process to save these type of cars from cost-prohibitive traditional restoration.
I'd have to immediately strip the top and redo the bumper fillers and old bodywork. And that radio would be gone immediately. But for the price, it's not bad
A shame about the bumper fillers - someone probably spent a good bit on those and then the installation just didn't measure up (literally). By the time you deal with that, the rust + replace the top, it's not a bargain, though if you could live with it as is (not me) then yeah, ok.
Now that's a real car !! It's sad that the U.S. automakers no longer build cars like this . A true classic ! Mark E. Switzer
I would buy this beautiful art on wheels any given day, I love it, awesome video review, well done, thanks for sharing/ posting
Nice car especially for being 50 years old. Good honest review including the full disclosure, while increasingly rare is always appreciated.
It wasn't about all the bells and whistles in 1974.
Just looking at the interior brings a smile to my face. Tastefully designed - yeah.
The seats have the 1975 sew style and the door panels have the 1974 style pillows and straps. Interesting!

Looks like the Calais interior.
BEAUTIFUL CADILLAC, BUT ITS. MISSING THE CADILLAC CREST ON THE HOOD, 😢

Looks much better without the quarter windows.
I never cared for quarter windows on the 75-76 GM cars back then
It’s funny because these are 4 door hardtops
Yet caddy still refers them as sedans

What is with the cream color 77 Town Coupe in the background?
Good eye! That one is already spoken for. Never even made it to RUclips.

My internal auto repair calculator says 6000 to replace the top and repair the rust damage. Plus, a total repaint
Just drive the hell out of it and stop calculating. This isn't to restore. It's to drive and enjoy as is.

@@joeseeking3572can I ask where abouts is the rust as I can’t see any? How much would it cost to fix? It looks to be just surface rust
