    i see the main advantage for this integration to have ableton as a recording platform for syntakt in arragement modus for later editing etc...not in live situations.

    I use the same hybrid approach but as much as i like Overbridge the latency it introduces is really killing me, specially when triggering external gear from midi tracks. In your video for example both external synths (although receiving clock from Live) are not properlly getting synced to the 1st beat. Enableing delay compensation not only adds latency when trying to record but it also needs negative ms adjustment of the midi Clock Sync Delay in Ableton preferences. From a mixing/postfx live perspective it's not a problem but for recording it sure is. Just sharing this because of the discussion surrounding overbridge doesn't mention this really important detail, specially if you're thinking about using this type of hybrid setup for live performance. As always great content Surco, keep it up 👊

    • @meilstone
      @meilstone Год назад +7

      Yes, MIDI latency is a drag, that's why I've changed my setup to hardware only. Computers and drivers just aren't up to it yet... The thing is that the Syntakt only has a stereo out and this makes it tempting to jump into Overbridge right away for full mix control, yet interrupting the workflow. But I also see the stereo out limitation as a chance to clean up my sound selection and arrangement, without fixing it with EQ etc. on separate channels. I run it straight into a simple analog mixer together with some other synths (triggered by Syntakt Midi tracks that I feed with a master keyboard) and hardware FX and try to get a clean composition/arrangement in the first place. No distracting sync issues or plugins!

    Has anyone noticed that latency compensation is kinda strange with ableton and overbridge? The external input seems to be delayed and if i add a lot of processing on individual tracks the compensation also seems to be off

    • @HelicopterRidesForCommunists
      @HelicopterRidesForCommunists Год назад +1

      Yeah man.. Im finding this out the hard way. Ran straight into this wall and spent the last week researching ways to fix it. I have it set up in Ableton with Overbridge and each Syntakt track has a midi track with an external instrument (so that I can put effects on that track and use the Push to trigger and tweak), and then route that audio to audio tracks for capturing/ recording. External instruments are supposed to be the key here to compensate for hardware latency, but even when I turn the Abelton monitoring off (which is how you would usually get latency free recordings) I am still getting 1 to 2 to 3 ms of latency and jitter. Fucking sucks. One thing I can do is put negative track delay on the tracks - and that works technically - however the amount of negative delay needed seems to change over time - especially when adding or changing up effect plugins.

      All of the Elektron fx are set up as send fx rather than insert fx. They all go through the same chain. The unit way to record individual tracks with fx is to mute all but the track being recorded and record the master out. That will have the fx recorded with the dry signal. This can also be a way to record individual dry tracks and only their fx as their own track to be able to parallel mix them. Thanks for watching!

    One of the first things I did the week I got the Syntakt was solo and perform each track individually into Logic. Recording them all at once is amazing but devoting a performance where you tweak synth, amp, filter, effects, trig etc parameters was too enticing to not attempt (plus I wanted individual stereo tracks).

    Just got a syntakt , and it sounds superb , but troubles begun when using overbridge : bascially the setting up of obverbidge is super easy and works well but :
    1 ) I tried to record midi from daw routed keyboard (NI M32) into a syntakt track , it plays midi but don't let you rexcord it : woah !!! (syntakt allows this only if you use it in non overbridge mode but calss ompliant way)
    2) I trried to i=use syntakt fx blok via midid to treat a track : same thing as previous ...
    3) the most frustarting is that i plugin a real midi canble and said to myself i will rlay and eabel recording on syntakt via a real cable via my daw , but the devices don't likle it as soo as i plugged the midi cable (in overbidge mod still) the overbidge software (main one on you computer deslktop) kept trying to refersh the didevice ...Ect ....
    So i have a feelinbg that it's oiverbidrige or full hardawre style , but both is a headache ...
    Can you tell me how you set up the 3 rd part i explaine ? (overbideg + midi via cable going from daw (sound card) .... because i done this 2000 times witrh any hardawre and the syntakt is making me wann througth this thing out opf the window !!

      Thks for the answer , so i debugged a lot :
      1) we need to be sure to send midi notes via midi and not via overbridge , in studio one i have to create a controller with midi taking from syntakt so in that case it is recording yeah !!
      2) For the audio input , we need to activate in the overbidge plugin Pre L and R , it's then seen in studio one as sidechain destination, , you send your audio in those and you treat them in the FX track in synatkt (still via usb ) Yeah !!
      3) So now of course via the midi device i created , i can now of course use the autochannel and it works .....
      Might do a video on setting this up in studio one or a more general one ... anyway thks for taking the time , and keep serving us your great videos , just watched the digitakt /syntakt / analog rytm one this morining , you hyped me over the rytm , i wish we could have the new euclidian in syntakt .
      This leads me to one simple question : is there a way to populate a pattern (track one) or at least to randomise note played ? (pitch and / or time placmenent of notes (like on my keystep pro ) ? Is there a way to nudge all notes (or the wholme pattern) at once to modify the staring for exmeple .?

Elektron came out with Overbridge for Pro Tools last year as well. As for your questions, there isn’t a way to populate random notes. You can send a random LFO to the pitch once the notes are in but it won’t quantize to key. That’s why I use the OXI one n my live rig. So this causes it to completely ignore the level faders on the syntakt. Is there any way to make it be post fader? Selecting post fader in the track cancels out the option to receive per track audio :(. The only solution is to use the amp control instead on the syntakt, but this has completely messed up the levels and automations I set on the syntakt to the point of it sounding like a completely different track. Any solutions?

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  2 месяца назад

      It is set up this way on purpose to allow full control in the DAW. You have fully dry signals and levels that can be properly mixed in the DAW. Recording different levels with added FX reduces the ability to control each of those levels once it is recorded in. To record post fader with all of the levels and FX you would probably want to record the main out with all tracks muted other than the one being recorded, and repeat this for each track or group of tracks. If you are fully happy with your levels and fx in the box, the simplest method would be to just record the master of the full track. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    • @SparkySubie
      @SparkySubie 2 месяца назад +1

      @@SURCOlive I found the solution actually, setting it to post fader in syntakt routing settings does the trick. Something I need since I compose on the syntakt in standalone and only later might decide I want to polish the track in a DAW. Relevelling everything to get the mix sounding the same would have been too tedious for me.

      That is actually intentional. The audio in has gain reduced -12db to allow headroom for the addition of FX, overdrive, etc without clipping. They know that driving this into any DAW allows for adjustment of input gain, so they look out for us by building this in. In my Ableton template, I start with a utility on each channel anyway for automating levels. Hi , really enjoy ur vids , n music, i have a question cz would love ur advice. Which module u recommend that is most close to genres like melodic tech, deep tech organic tech, digitone ? Syntakt ? Maybe behringer 2600 or argon module outside elektron. plz note existing gear ( moog subsequent 37, NI maschine mk3, Roland Trs8 , ableton suite live 11, NI komplete Kontrol S61, thank u again ,🙏

      Glad you like the videos. You have a great group of machines and software for producing any genre. I don't see anything needed at all. You have my favorite analog mono synth (Subsequent 37), a great group of digital and poly synths in the NI and Ableton eco systems, and a great drum machine. With what you have and learning about how to produce different sounds from all of it, you will be able to produce really any genre. No machine produces a genre alone (unless it is a sampler loaded with remade samples from that genre). It is all about learning how to make the sounds you want from different types of gear. Thanks so much for watching!

    seems like the timing when sending midi out of the elektron was fairly latent. Is there a solution for this?

    Does anyone know if you can use two (or more) Elektron devices concurrently in Overbridge? The only other Elektron device I own is a Digitone, but I have a lot of other both modern and vintage synths. My modern synths are all using midi over usb through chaining two Overhubs together, whilst my older synths are connected via regular 5 pin midi via my interface. The Digitone is working fine in Overbridge, but I'm dubious that having 12 tracks of audio over usb coming into my DAW is going to work flawlessly to be honest. And I've now used all the input channels on my interface, which is why Syntakt (or another Elektron Overbridge device) is so enticing.

      I have 4 Elektron devices all running overbridge into Ableton. All multitrack. No issues.

      @@SURCOlive Thanks, that's a relief to be honest. Because even though my DAW PC is a beast, I can't get my head around having 12 tracks of digital audio and midi through one usb cable, plus another 4 of the same from the Digitone. I don't know how Elektron have actually managed this, it's something approaching magic.

    I found that the output of the Syntakt with Overbridge was very low, even at max volume. Did you have the same issue or was I doing something wrong?

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  2 года назад +1

      I did, and I looked into it. They lowered the output to allow for headroom for the analog effects block to do it's thing without clipping the main output. I've found the best solution is to work with it and just boost the monitoring to keep the headroom for mix/master. Otherwise, if you are in Ableton, just add a utility to each channel of the template and boost the gain. Thanks for watching!

      Not sure. I know overbridge doesn’t work on iPad but there may be another way I don’t know about using audio over usb. Curious if anyone else has the answer.

    What power source are you using on an airplane?

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  2 года назад +2

      I normally fly United and they have outlets at the seat. If not, I use a regular power brick (with 2.5amp output) and a Birdcord 12V voltage converter cable. Here is a link to the cable: www.songbirdfx.com/products/birdcord-pd12v/

      Psst: Perfect Circuit has the same thing / different mfg. It's the MyVolts Ripcord (Perfect Circuit Item# N13-05230). MyVolts re-stocks every few months; but they sell out everywhere in about a week. Thank you for posting Syntakt content.

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  2 года назад +3

      I actually have the ripcord 12V, but it only pushes 1 amp, not enough to power the Syntakt, A4, AR, or OT. It’s great for the Digitakt and Digitone though. The new birdcord is specifically 3A to power all of those higher draw devices as well as the DT and DN. Thanks for watching!

      Totally agree on the RYTM! Syntakt has a really unique spot in my production and performance workflow. If I didn’t travel so much for work and gigs, it would not be as valuable for sure. It is for not for everyone. Thanks for watching!
